I received an arc of this from NetGalley.
I was excited for this book. I love time loop and time travel stories. This was fell a bit short in the time loop and romance departments. The book just skimmed the surface. It never went too deep. Though we knew Gemma pretty well, what did we really know of Jack and why he loved her so much?
This barely made it as a 3. I do not think I’d recommend it.

Ground Hogs Day Romance. Had potential but the writing was too shallow leaving me disconnected from the characters, not sold AT ALL on the time loop theory, and uninterested in the character arcs. Also felt very predictable.
Thank you to netgalley for giving me an arc in exchange for an honest review.

3.5/5 rounded up. I was absolutely presently surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Holly James did a phenomenal job writing banter, in that way it reminded me of Emily Henry’s writing. I was invested from the start and appreciated the realistic depth the main character had. I would have given this a full four stars, but it slightly lost me around the 75% mark, I won’t say any spoilers, but I wasn’t all onboard for how quickly some of those things transpired.

Extra bonus points for getting me out of a reading slump!

In this contemporary romance, Gemma Peters finds herself caught in a time loop, reliving the same day over and over again. To break free from this repetitive cycle, Jack proposes a solution: he must make Gemma fall in love with him within a single day. But there's a catch—Gemma needs to remember him first.

Gemma is content with her life in the L.A. music industry, focusing on her career and enjoying the company of her best friend and beloved dog. However, her past experience with a manipulative ex-boyfriend has led her to establish a strict rule against dating musicians. When Gemma collides with Jack one morning, she can't deny the strange connection between them. As they spend more time together, Gemma experiences a strong sense of déjà vu and an unexplainable attraction to Jack. But how can she trust her feelings when she forgets him completely after each reset?

Jack, on the other hand, is painfully aware of the time loop they're trapped in. Every repeated day feels like an eternity to him. Determined to break free, he devises a plan to make Gemma fall in love with him before the day ends. As they navigate the loop together, Jack must find a way to convince Gemma of their shared past and the connection they have beyond the confines of the time loop.

The concept of reliving the same day repeatedly offers an intriguing premise for the story. The author skillfully explores the consequences and challenges of this time loop, delving into the psychological and emotional impact it has on the characters. The romantic aspect of the plot adds an additional layer of tension and complexity as Gemma and Jack try to unravel the mystery behind their connection and find a way to break free.

While the story presents an engaging concept, some readers may find the repetitive nature of the time loop tedious or predictable. The character development is adequate, with Gemma and Jack displaying growth and vulnerability as they navigate their unique situation. The supporting characters provide depth and contribute to the overall narrative, adding both comedic and emotional moments.

The writing style is straightforward and flows smoothly, allowing readers to easily follow the progression of events. The dialogue is natural and helps to convey the chemistry between Gemma and Jack. The author explores themes of love, fate, and second chances, offering readers a blend of romance and introspection.

Overall, this book presents an entertaining and light-hearted take on the time loop trope in a contemporary romance setting. It offers an escape into a world where love has the power to break through the constraints of time, inviting readers to ponder the role of destiny and the potential for change within a repetitive cycle.

Thank you to NetGalley for an eARC of this book. I love a time loop; Groundhog Day is one of my favorites, so I couldn't pass this up. I appreciate that the main characters had to resolve personal issues rather than complete a redemption arc. Even though there was a time loop, there was a lack of repetition of events. Yes, Jack has lived this day 147 times, but I didn't have to as a reader. I loved the secondary characters; everyone needs a best friend like Lila with her Aunt Clara. I wonder if that was a nod to Bewitched. Lastly, I loved that Helen, the ticket agent, has a recurring role. Maybe she'll get a spin-off. :)

I picked this up when I wanted a palate cleanser after a really heavy read, and this certainly was that. It started out strong - sweet and romantic, a time loop with goofy, lovable characters and some more complex family themes underneath. However, the last 30-40% of this book went way downhill in quality and went way UP in the cheese factor. By the end, it was painfully cheesy 😬

All in all, this was cute, but nothing special.

What a fun read! This sweet story of two people caught in a time loop is funny, romantic and has so many twists and turns. This is a great summer or beach read, and will keep you smiling throughout.

I don't think I have ever read a time loop trope book before, but I loved this one. The author, Holly James, does a great job writing the storyline where even though it is a Groundhog day type situation, it doesn't feel like I'm reading the same thing over and over again.

This book is like Groundhog day and 50 first dates combined. Jack wakes up every morning and goes off to run into Gemma and tries to make her like him, when hes already head over heels for her. It was a super easy read I flew through in a day.

Jack and Gemma go on a journey to find out why they have been stuck in a time loop, and over the course of the book, they really grow as people and characters. All the characters were well rounded and I could connect with them and liked them (except Nick). Definitely an enjoyable read!

Special thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Group Dutton for the digital reviewer copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Gemma hasn’t really dated since her musician-ex used her to meet her rockstar father, then dumped her. When she literally runs into Jack one morning at the coffee shop, she thinks maybe fate is doing her a favor with this cute guy. But – how does he know her name? And why is there a feeling of déjà-vu when she looks at him? According to Jack, they have been reliving this Thursday for months, and he believes if he can get her to fall in love with him, their time loop will end.

I like this play on a time loop, where we see the perspective of the person who doesn’t remember the repeating days. The characters are all lovable and well-written, and you just can’t help but root for the happy ending that you know is coming. I highly recommend this book to those who like clean romances!

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of this book.

Gemma and Jack find themselves in a loop where they repeat the same day over and over. The catch? Only Jack knows they're in a loop. Each day, he tries to get Gemma to remember him, and each day, he fails...until he finally takes extreme measures.

The next day, Gemma starts to feel the effects of the loop. But will it be enough? Can Jack convince her of the truth and what he thinks they must do to get out of the loop?

As soon as I read the blurb for The Deja Glitch, I knew it had to be mine. Romantic version of Groundhog Dog? Count me in!

I expected this to be a dual timeline book since Jack was the one who knew what was happening and was surprised it wasn't. I think keeping one narrator through most of the book helped keep the reader guessing as to what would happen.

It also made your heart break a little more for Jack. I can't imagine spending so long in a loop that only YOU knew existed and, each day, trying to convince the one person who could help to remember you.

There were parts of the book that didn't work, however. There was something about Gemma that made me not like her very much. I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it was her narration style, but I struggled to like her which is why I give the book 3.5 stars. I loved Jack though. He truly made the book enjoyable! Especially after he met a certain rock star...I'm still giggling about it!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

After meeting a handsome stranger at a bar, Gemma wakes up the next day and keeps experiencing strange senses of Deja Vu. When she runs into the guy again at a coffee shop (literally), Jack explains that not only have they met before, but that he’s stuck on day 156 of a time loop and he feels Gemma is the key to breaking it. The novel takes place over a single day but references the many times Jack has lived it before. Gemma also works through her distant relationship with her father and her quest to succeed in her career without his influence. Overall I liked the book but I think it became a little over the top near the end- too many wild events packed into one day and a bit of a cliched ending. I did think the characters were well developed and you find out more about all of them as the day goes on that help explain why they act the way they do.

This is by far not a perfect book. The premise of a time loop for a love story is one that I don't read too often. It's more of a sci-fi genre regarding the topic of a time loop. However, this is where the good plot of the story ends. There are many things wrong regarding its science, but I won't nitpick that because it's more of a romance novel. Now, I expected more because it's a time loop. I expected a lot of pushback from Gemma because, come on, if it were me, I wouldn't have come to being convinced so easily. I think that's where the story lost its greatness for me. Because everything was so easy for the characters, there were no fireworks or adversity. On top of it all, the characters don't have any personalities, especially Gemma and Jack being the main characters. There was no sense of humor or any emotion. Who are they really? I feel like I didn't get a sense of who they were. The premise was to get Gemma to remember and end the time loop. The story was empty for me.

This is a great book with the perfect in sync time loop. I mean who lives a good time loop! Me! This book gives me Hallmark Movie Vibes; and everyone needs a good hallmark movie(no matter how predictable the ending is) it was still a good read!

What a fun take on a time loop trope! I loved the characters in this and the pacing was great. The fact that this somehow takes place over one day primarily is cool; so many books show the repeating days and I’m glad James didn’t rely on that here. Would love to see Lila have a book next!

I was asked to review “The Déjà Glitch” by Holly James, which promised itself as a “Groundhog’s Day” novel, though the story ended up being different from what I expected.

Jack Lincoln is stuck in a time loop, but we don’t know it when we’re introduced to Gemma Peters. Gemma’s struggling to find her place in this world. While she is working in the music industry, she does not like her job. Further, she is suffering the effects of a bad break up. So, when she runs into Jack and he tells her that he has been stuck in a time loop for five months and that he believes she’s the key to getting out of it, she doesn’t know what to believe.

I liked the premise, especially since most novels of this type are written in the POV of the person experiencing the repetitious day. I thought a lot of the plot was predictable, which isn’t a bad thing (unless you are someone who avoids the Hallmark network at all costs). I appreciated the sweetness that wasn’t too saccharine or overdone, especially with the subplots that I wish the writer spent a bit more time on.

Three and a half stars.

Many thanks to the author, NetGalley and publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks so much Penguin Group Dutton and NetGalley!

Gemma is doing fine. She literally crashes into Jack on Thursday and gets this odd feeling that they've met before. Wouldn't she remember? In fact, they have been reliving this Thursday for months and months. She doesn't remember. He's trying to convince her and has this theory that things will go back to normal if he can convince her to fall in love again.

I thought this was super cute and I loved the deja vu twist. There's some background stories that really add to the main plot - Gemma's career, her lack of relationship with her father, her terrible ex - and I appreciated all of it so much. I might have a book crush on Jack now!

The Deja Glitch was a super quick and fun read to get through. the time-loop story setting was really interesting, and it was something I hadn’t really read about in a novel before! the book felt like a typical romcom movie in word form: cheesy, light, and slightly unrealistic. one of the things that I would have to criticize is the characters. in the book, they’re described to be around 30 years old, but I felt like the characters felt so juvenile (dialogue and inner monologue) to be coming from 30-year-olds, specifically Gemma. Her emotions resembled a teenagers mood swings as she navigated through the time loop, and it seemed like all she did was act based on her emotions.
- I will say, some of the romance in the book did come off as slightly insta-lovey for me, which is something that I am not a huge fan of. Though I did feel like the characters had chemistry, some of the proclamations of love felt too intense for feelings to be developed within the first time meeting one another, or the first day of meeting the other.
- I also felt like some of the conflicts that Gemma had with other characters, such as with her father and her brother, were brought up and resolved too quickly and easily. Both of these relationships seemed to be patched within the day that the book takes place in, and I found it to be quite realistic. One moment, it seemed like she would never see eye-to-eye with them, and the next she was making up on the phone after a single conversation.
- all in all, an enjoyable read to pass time that I was able to consume at a startling pace. Nothing ground breaking but a fun time nonetheless!

The Deja Glitch was wonderful! This charming story lifted my spirits and blew me away! This was an adorable romantic comedy with magical realism. The characters were developed and rich. The story had some fun twists and turns and overall it was just pure enjoyment!

This was a really cute book! It follows the promise of being stuck in a repeating day (think: Groundhog Day), but it has an interesting twist where there’s one person that remembers the day each time it repeats and the main character does not. The book mostly only covers one full day, with the exception of the first and last chapters. Overall this was a really cute read and I like how it addressed working through some difficult family dynamics and life problems.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author/publisher for granting me an ARC. This book will be published on 8/1/23.
