The Deja Glitch is a book by author Holly James I was excited to read. Although I have not read Holly James’ work before, the description and cover really grabbed my attention!

Although time loops can sometimes be written in a confusing format, I thoroughly enjoyed the way the author chose to portray the phenomenon in this novel.

This book was SO precious! I loved the chemistry between the two main characters Jack and Emma, I loved the adorable and hilarious side characters, I loved the ending!!

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for this ARC. Looking forward to reading more of the authors work!

The Deja Glitch

4/5, Romance

Advance Reader Copy from Net Galley - release date June 6, 2023

Time loops aren’t just fictional for Jack and Gemma. They are living one - only Jack remembers each day and Gemma doesn’t. Jack thinks the only way out is to fall in love - but that might be a bit too much crazy for Gemma to handle.

Set in LA, this story involves the entertainment industry, best friends and falling in love, even if it might be the strangest day ever.

The characters in this book are easy to love, and I spent the whole book rooting for them to fall in love and get past the time warp. Comedic romance, with a great story like, that at times felt like it was moving too slow. But by the end, the entire story came together I understood all the slower parts. Look for this book this summer!

This story was so sweet and unlike other "time loop" stories I have read in romance books before. I enjoyed that the story itself was only set in one day of the time loop, making the whole timeline less repetitive. With that being said, I expected a lot of info-dumping because the reader has missed the lead-up into the problem of the story, but the author was able to execute this so well!

Overall, this story was sweet, simple, and a good "one-sitting" read.

Wow I loved this one! I love a good time loop story, but this one felt especially fun because it’s from the other persons POV. Gemma is living a normal day when suddenly she runs into Jack, who claims he’s in a time loop and she’s the key to it all. He’s lived the same day 147 times, bumping to her and hoping she’ll remember him. Luckily, Jack has a theory to bring his own personal Groundhog Day to an end. Before the day is over, he just has to get Gemma to fall in love with him.

This story was so so cute. Jack is such a perfect book boyfriend and even the supporting characters were so fun! This book doesn’t come out until August 1st, but definitely pick it up once it does!

Thank you for allowing me to have an early copy of Deja Glitch to read and review. I rate it 3.5 stars out of 5.
Time loops are fun, but this one fell a little short for me. I loved the character of Jack and wish we had seen more of him reliving the loop instead of only experiencing one day. Coming in at 229 pages, definitely could have added a few visits to this same day with failed attempts at getting Gemma to remember him.

3.5 🌟
This is a closed door time loop romance. The story starts on what we know to be the 147th day of the time loop. Jack has remembered all 147 days, but doesn’t remember what came before, and to Gemma it’s just another day, where she gets the best kiss of her life. This kiss sparks some recognition, and is a catalyst for day 148 to be different, with both of them facing all the pieces of their lives that made them unhappy.

Overall the book was quite enjoyable. If you put it at Christmastime it would be a hallmark/lifetime hit.
Jack and Gemma are overall very likable for 2 affluent LA people. Mila, Gemma’s influencer friend is adorable. I appreciated the bilateral grand gestures, especially the going viral aspect. Some points off because it was a little heavy handed at times. We must have been told that 147 days is 5 months, like 10 times. Also I’ve never imagined a time loop going on for that length. I’d be insane. The biggest irk for me was the ending. I thought I had it pegged in an enjoyable full circle kind of way, but we ended up just summarizing the whole book piece by piece instead, slamming home how they’re MFEO.

Thank you NetGalley for providing an e-arc. My opinions and thoughts are all my own.

Super cute read involving a romance in a time loop! I loved the time loop, and how past events impacted the present plot.

I would say this was a solid 3.5 stars. I can't go all the way to 4 or give it as little as 3, because it kept me engaged and interested throughout most of it. I would say that the main character was not SUPER likable or relatable personally, and she felt a little "woe is me" throughout most of the novel.

I had the hardest time with the last few chapters of the book, where everything seemed to just wrap up with a neat little bow. All of a sudden the main character has forgiven everyone and is a new person simply because she fell in love in the span of a day, and it didn't feel very relatable. Also, the whole scene on the stage with the back and forth dialogue between Gemma and Jack was a little painful. It went on forever and I had a hard time staying fully invested in their "win" of finding each other and making it to a new day.

Overall, I think it was an easy read that was cute and an interesting plot, but the characters could have used a little more depth.

Thank you Net galley and the publishers for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was so solid for me for about 90% of the book. I really loved the concept, it was fun and lighthearted. The romance was sweet, and for it being an unrealistic situation, the way the characters handled it felt realistic. I blew through the first 90% of the book without any other thought… but that’s where it lost me. At about the 90% mark, our characters had their HEA, and the book just felt like it was dragging. I knew I had very little left to read, but I really struggled to finish it. The rest of the book though, was excellent, looking forward to reading other work by this author.

I am absolutely obsessed with this book. The premise was so unique and original and the characters are so endearing. Everyone needs a friend like Lila and jack. JACK has my heart in his clutches. Any person willing to spend 147 days getting to know you is automatically amazing. At least in my book. I loved the development of the relationship between Gemma and her dad. The cover is so cute and I can't wait to get a copy of this book to put on my shelf.

Holly James' sophomore novel did not disappoint! Like her first book, Nothing But The Truth, this rom-com comes with a dash of magical realism, which is always a yes for me. The Deja Glitch has got it all: charming characters (Jack is my newest book boyfriend), an exciting, fast-paced plot, and an incredibly satisfying ending. There are laugh-out-loud moments (you'll love the airport scene!), a terrific B-plot, and most importantly, an unforgettable love story. I can't recommend it enough!

The concept of this romance was fun, I love a good time loop, sci-fi twist. Jack and Gemma meet and share an earth shattering kiss. Then the day starts over and Jack wants nothing more than for Gemma to remember him, finally, after the number of days he's had to relive the same day. Jack believes that Gemma is the key to breaking out of his time loop and does everything imaginable to convince her that he's telling the truth and that they're great together.

Let's start with Jack. I found his character to be so charming. He's open, honest, and very romantic. His love for Gemma is clear and he does things to help her succeed and overcome obstacles and fears in her life. He comes off genuine and thoughtful. He takes time to listen to her and really understand her.

Lila, Gemma's best friend, is another character I adored. Typically Instagram influences can come off as vapid in books, but not Lila. She's funny, charismatic, and isn't afraid to call Gemma on some of her BS. Despite her working nonstop on her influencing job, she shows care for Gemma and wants the best for her.

Gemma is what I disliked the most in this story. The book started off so intriguing and I thought Gemma was relatable. Yet as the story progressed, it was clear how incredibly selfish and immature she was. She insists on her brother trying for hours to get a flight home, instead of checking into a hotel to sleep, despite him pleading with her to "let" him. When her brother tells her he got another job in another country, she's too concerned about how it affects her and doesn't show any true happiness for her brother. When it comes to her dad, it's clear that their history has led her to resent him, but the details of the past weren't explained well enough. As a reader, it seemed like he was trying with her and she blamed him for so many problems in her life. With her ex, she was rightfully scorned and upset, but she holds on to it with such vehemence that she just comes off whiny. She did come around in the end, but I felt like her apologies needed to be more sincere.

Overall it was a cute romance with some twists that I enjoyed. I would recommend this book to others, but probably caution them about Gemma. Thank you for the ARC, I did enjoy reading this one.

this book was way too long for me. it all took place in one day and showcased how one small decision can affect your entire day. there were no actual failures in resetting the loop, and it all seemed to work out too perfectly. i didn’t really feel a connection with any of the characters and felt like i just needed to finish to check it off my list.

i think this was extremely well written, just not for me :/

I am not the biggest fan of the “time-loop trope”. This book took place over the course of a single day & i found it to b very predictable. It was an okay story, but not my favorite. I have read better time-loop stories, but this one was average. I would recommend it if you’re a fan of this trope, but personally - it wasn’t for me.

Gemma is a radio producer in LA and really liking it. She has friends and her adorable Labrador Rex.
Sadly her ex-boyfriend used her just so he could get a record deal from her dad who is a rock legend.
So now she has one rule when it comes to dating no musicians! But the way her life has been going lately she has been on no dates.
When Gemma meets Jack she feels like they have met before and gets the sense of déjà vu.
What starts off as a crash that has taken place on Thursday ends up being no ordinary Thursday.
Crazy as it seems Gemma and Jack have lived this day over and over for months now.
Gemma has no idea what is going but Jack does and he has plan to bring their Groundhog Day to an end.
Simple right? All he has to do is make Gemma fall in love with him before the day is over!
How had could this be?!

And this is why I love James!

The Déjà Glitch by Holly James was a great story.
I just found the whole book really interesting and charming.
I loved everything about this story. The storyline just grabbed ahold of me and didn't let go.
Both of the characters are sweet, fun and warm. They were were incredible and so well developed,.
I adored the side characters and how everything felt natural.
The writing flowed amazingly and kept me wanting more!.
It captures you, compelling you to turn the pages until all of the words are used up.

The cutest book!

Time loops aren’t always my favorite trope but I couldn’t help obsess over Gemma and Jack’s relationship. I rooted for them through every chapter and kept on hoping Gemma would remember all the times she spent with Jack. The plot came together perfectly for me.

thank you to the author and publishers for so generously providing me with an advanced reader copy!

this book was exciting. i know that seems like an incredibly plain way to describe it, but while reading i felt myself grow eager and excited on behalf of both of the main characters. i found myself hoping that they would fall into place together. that’s not often something i feel while reading books. i found myself most excited to see what happened next, to see what gemma was feeling. i’ve never wholeheartedly rooted for two characters this way.

holly james did an amazing job, i would read time loops everyday if they were all written like this.

I really enjoyed this one! I swooned so hard so many times. I loved jack. Gemma was kinda annoying in the beginning but she got better as the book went on.

Is it insta love if one of the people has really been seeing the other for about five months, even though it is like day one for the other? Gemma is content with her low key life, but things take an about turn when she meets someone at her best friend, Lila's, birthday party. The next day, when she crashes into a handsome man at the coffee shop, an energy courses through her along with a memory of kiss from the night before. Does she know this guy? This guy, turns out to be Jack, a guy who is supposedly trapped in a time loop. He believes that Gemma is the key to getting out. Trying to convince her makes for a long day, one that is filled with both Gemma and Jack making decisions and seeing resolution in their lives in a variety of ways.
This is a cute book, and I love both of the main characters. Jack is sweet and patient as he tries to get Gemma to piece together all of the days he has spent knowing her. I want Lila, Gemma's BFF, to be mine! She lives a fun life and always has Gemma's back. The whole possibility of time loops is a little hard to wrap my head around, but if you take this book for what it is, a sweet, fun romance, you will not be disappointed!

Time loops are a hit or miss for me, so I walked into this book carefully. I didn't have to worry though. I loved how the time loop was handled in this book.
Gemma doesn't know she's in a time loop. She wakes up like any other day, and even though a few things make her feel a sense of deja vu, she doesn't really think anything of it, until she ends up in a latte bath after bumping into someone at the coffee shop. He seems so familiar, and he's looking at her like she should know him.
Jack might be a little crazy, she can't be sure, but somehow he seems to know things and he seems to think the answer to their problem is for her to fall in love with him. In one day.

I loved that we are following Gemma through the story during a 24 hour period rather than re-living days, but I would have liked a few pov moments from Jack to show his memories more and his connection to Gemma through the loops. just to get more of a glimpse of that side of the story. (I'm also a sucker for a dual POV so that might just be me.)

This book was also so much more than trying to find love in a day. A lot of other things were pulled in for them to overcome, and I liked the deeper aspect of the story. This was a fun, clean romance complete with a wonderful best friend and drama coming at them in the form of exes and family,

Release date is 8/1/23
