I really wanted to love this one. If the historical aspect and the fascinating information about female flyers sounds good to you, then you should definitely give this one a try!

I struggled with this one because I struggled with the character of Tasha. I found her attitude and behavior really off-putting and, since most of the POV are from her, I really struggled to not throw the book when she was reckless and, I think, selfish. I liked Nadia's POV much more and I loved learning about the women who flew.

Since not enjoying the POV is completely personal, definitely check out the other 4 and 5 star reviews and maybe give this one a try. It just didn't work for me.

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

This is one of my favourite books of this year! I really loved it so much; it is so amazing and wonderful!

I listened to this book while I was painting my living room, and I was really engrossed in it. The audiobook narrator was fantastic, and she was perfect for the story.

The story is set in 1942 in Europe, and it is based on a true story about a female bomber battalion. Tasha's partner Luca joins the air force to fight against the Nazi's, and she decides to follow him, and also signs up to help with the fight. Her sister Nadia is not happy about this and she tries to stop her, but to no avail. Nadia then thinks that if she can't stop her, then she should join her, and soon, they are both flying in aeroplanes doing missions, with their battalion being nicknamed The Night Witches. What will their fate be though? Will they be safe, or is danger lurking ahead for them?

This is a truly outstanding and superb book, which is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. You will need tissues for it, but you won't regret reading it, as it is a masterpiece, and I recommend it very highly!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book follows two sisters Nadya and Tasha in Russia during WWII, whose husband, resp. boyfriend are recruited to war. However, the women feel left behind and they want to help Russia win the war so they join the army too, specifically a women flying squad. We dive into their life in army, into sisterhood, relationships with family, grief, and also rivality in the army.
This was such a good historical fiction, I had a really good time with it. While I did expect a bit more from it, it didn't hit me in the feels the way I expected too, I have to say that in epilogue, I definitely teared up.
The only thing I really disliked about this audiobook was the narrator mispronouncing some of the characters' names. Otherwise, the audiobook was enjoyable and well done.

I agree with the lower starred reviews here - it felt too overblown. At the beginning, everyone was scowling, growling and snarling, which just pulled me out of the story. There wasn’t much nuance, it was all quite predictable characters, with over the top reactions. I also didn’t really take to the narrator, the American accent didn’t work for me with a Russian story, unfortunately. I don’t think I’d be likely to try more books by this author, I’m really sorry.

I received a free ARC copy of this via NetGalley and the publishers in return for an unbiased review.

Unfortunately due to having a hard time with the reader of the audiobook I was unable to finish this book. I tried my best to listen multiple times but I was not able to follow the story well enough to carry on.

I listened to the audiobook of We Fly Beneath the Stars and it was so beautifully done. The narrator was wonderful. I really enjoyed reading about Nadia and Tasha and the growth in their relationship. I cried at the end of the story. The bomber battalion this story is based off of is truly inspiring. They were so incredibly brave and pioneering. They fought for their country despite the risks and the men in similar positions mocking them. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in WWII stories.

This was a different view of WWII for me, coming from two Russian female pilots'POVs. Sisters Tasha and Nadia are so different from in each other in the way they view life, their job, and their safety. I did struggle for a while to like Tasha, her pushing the limits of safety in an I-don't-care attitude. Luckily, she redeemed herself in my eyes after a while.
As with all WWII stories that I read, I loved learning something new. In this case, it was the Night Witches pilots. This group of smart, determined, fearless women helped shape the outcome of WWII.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an audiobook of this intense, informative story. Also, the narrator did a great job differentiating characters.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this audiobook from NetGalley and Bookouture Audio.
From the very beginning of this book I was drawn to the Tasha and Nadia. The narration was beautifully done. It was easy to distinguish between the characters. There were parts where I felt like I was in the plane with them.
One thing I love the most about war stories is the unexpected love and the strength it takes to fall in love in such a trying time. This story had more than one love story. Nadia was able to love more than one man, both in significantly different ways. And Tasha and Luca’s love survived more than any love should ever have to.
I would love to listen to more books narrated by Lauryn Allman and I would love to read my books by Suzanne Kelman.

"We Fly Beneath the Stars" tells a really interesting story and I liked the overall plot, but the characters just weren't well-rounded enough for me to really care about them. The way they acted was rather idiotic at times.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the audiobook.

That was a very interesting story about two sister during WWII. I will devour any story about how women fought or during the war. and if it is based in real people the better.

The narration of the audio book was very easy to follow even at high speed. Totally recommend the audiobook version.

I immensely enjoyed listening to We Fly Beneath the Stars by Suzanne Kelman, a historical fiction set during the second world war. The narration by Lauryn Allman was also very good. Two sisters, Nadia and Tasha, become pilots to fight Nazi Germany while also at times fighting each other but never giving up. I had learnt about the Night Witches in another historical fiction and have been fascinated with them ever since. Imagine fighting the enemy in subpar planes and doing such a good job of it. Definitely worth a read. I would definitely recommend this audiobook to all. Thanks.

I absolutely adored this story and was totally gripped!

I am a huge fan of historical fiction and have high expectations when I begin a new book in this genre. I don't like it when authors try to throw fact after fact at you or who don't fully immerse you in the time and you come away thinking it could have been set in any era just without the mobile phones... it's a very difficult balance creating historical fiction which immerses you in the time without it being too full of facts... I'm delighted that Suzanne Kelman definitely go the balance just right!

When I wasn't listening to this audio, I was thinking about it and wondering what would happen.

The story tells of Tasha and Nadia, two sisters who are very different but both sign up to fly to help the war effort in the Second World War. Based in Russia, it's an interesting story to have it from the Russian perpsective, definitely not one which has been overdone.

Tasha is the more head-strong, wild sister who takes chances. Nadia is calmer, thinks things through first. Tasha has only signed up because she wants to try to be with the love of her life - Luca, Nadia has signed up as she wants to look after Tasha.

Tensions between the two sisters rise and there's plenty of drama and moments where you can't stop listening as you just want to find out what happens.

I found the story moving, compelling and totally believable. It was really interesting to read it from the perspective of Russian women who were fighting in the war.

Extremely well written and absorbing. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Thank you net galley for providing me with an advanced readers copy of " We fly beneath the stars"

The narration of the audiobook was excellent, with the narrator having a clear accent allowing even a reader whose first language isn't english to understand every word.

The pacing of the book was great, and the writing quite decent. My favourite part was definitely the characters, as each of them being as complicated as they were, felt like real people, and their interactions kept me invested

Overall a great read I'd definitely recommend

I recently learned about the World War 2 women pilots labeled “the night witches” and found them fascinating. So I leapt into this book, thinking that I would be reading a historical fictional account about this topic.

Sadly, the book is a romance that takes place during WW2. Flying is interspersed with the two sisters’ longing for their signicant others: Tasha unable to function without being near Luka and Nadia frustrated because her husband, Ivan, doesn’t want to be near her. I found myself fast forwarding the audio to get to the flying, which was limited.

I expected a book like The Huntress or The Nightingale or Between Shades of Grey. If you like romance or historical romance, then this might be the book for you. It just wasn’t for me.

I just finished listening to this book and I loved it,
It was refreshing hearing a war story from a Russian perspective which was a first for me. I also, had never heard of formidable Night Witches before and their story was incredible.
The characters were well developed and I really felt for both Nadia and Tasha's plights with the men they loved and all that they had to endure throughout the war. Their courage was inspiring.
The narrator was wonderful, she kept my interest and sucked me right into the story. I would choose to listen to books narrated by Laurryn Allman in the future.
I have been deliberating over whether I should give this book 4 or 5 stars. However, the fact that it brought me to tears on several occasions means that it is more than worthy of 5 stars.
I would highly recommend this book and I will be reading more books written by Suzanne Kelman.

Wonderfully moving read of the Night Witches, Russian females who flew bombers during the war.

Covers pretty much all points of view of the war, family's, lovers, friendships old and new and loss.

Great narrator who did a very good job.

We Fly Beneath The Stars tells the fictional story of Nadia and Tasha, sisters who join the Russian Airforce during the Second World War. It’s based on the real squadron of all female fighter pilots known as Russia’s Night Witches.
After Tasha’s boyfriend Luca enlists to fight with the Russian airforce, Tasha follows him to
Moscow but there starts an epic journey of her own. I loved the historical side to this book but did find some parts over explained and the characters were not developed enough for me to feel any affinity with them. A great read for fans of historical fiction, and told from a refreshingly different angle.

Absolutely superb.
This book has it all. Historical fiction fans will lap this up.
It is so interesting, telling me about a part of history I knew little about, which is a huge factor in why I read this genre. Women flying fighter planes?
The characters are powerful, two competitive sisters fighting the war makes for a slightly different dynamic that isn't used too often.
I was truly gripped by the dramatic events, feeling the fear and emotion in every page.

I also listened to the audiobook, and it was brilliant. Wonderful narration evoking the drama perfectly.
