What a beautiful cookbook. I have been vegan on and off for more than 6 year and in that time I’ve read and used several completely vegan cookbooks. This one stood out for sure. One reason being the ease of the recipes and the simple changes that you can make without having to run to every speciality food store in town. The author made changes easy and often gave substitutes. The second reason being the photography! Wow! I was blown away by the photos. They alone make me want to try most of the recipes in the book. I have several that are on the menu for an up coming party and I can’t wait to test them out on my friends and family,
As the title suggests, Nourshing Vegan Every Day by Amy Lanza, the focus of the book is on healthy and nutritious vegan food. All recipes are quite simple and straightforward to cook. I found it quite refreshing as a lot of recently published vegan cookery books focus on vegan junk food.
The book is divided into seven sections: Breakfast; Brunch; Lunch; Dinner; Snacks; Sweets; Celebrations. Each recipe has an accompanying image of the cooked meal which I think is really important. I think the photography was good and what struck me was just how colourful each cooked recipe was.
I’ve tried a couple of recipes and can attest that the Smoky Sweet Potato Mixed Bean Chili and also the Minestrone Soup recipe are easy to follow and delicious. I’ve also baked the Gingerbread Layer Cake hoping to take it to a family gathering on Christmas Eve, but the family have already eaten half of it! I’ll have to bake another one.
What I thought was useful, particularly for people new to a vegan diet, was that Amy had a section at the beginning of the book explaining how to use different staples of vegan cookery, e.g. how to use the different types of tofu. She also provided information on useful substitutes, e.g. how to substitute eggs in vegan cookery.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publisher Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds, Fair Winds Press for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I was given an eCopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not vegan, but I would like to eat less meat. This book is beautifully presented and has a range of dishes for breakfast, lunch dinner and celebrations. It's straightforward enough, some of the ideas are inspiring, and some I have come across before. This book is a good resource.
I think this cookbook was fine. Nothing mind-blowing, but it had some aspects I liked. I really liked how it was laid out, with pictures for each recipe and a really concise, well-formatted description for each recipe. I think the snacks might be my favorite section, since there were quite a few recipes I thought looked really good.
I think that while the photography of the food was really good, sometimes vegan food just doesn't look appetizing, no matter how talented the photographer, so that did put me off quite a few recipes. Additionally, I am biased because I can't eat tofu, but I don't like when a large number of recipes completely revolve around tofu, especially things like a tofu sandwich. It just doesn't look appetizing and it feels uncreative.
Overall I think this was fine. I wish it was a little more original. Even the recipes I liked are ones I have definitely ones I have seen before.
Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group, Fair Winds Press, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this cookbook.
I love that there is a gorgeous photo of every recipe in this book! I also like that for the most part, they are whole-food, plant-based recipes and not just vegan junk food that uses a lot of highly-processed ingredients. The author is also upfront and lets the reader know about the few less-healthy recipes she included. This information is part of her introduction to the book. Most of the ingredients are easy to find in any grocery store. There are quite a few recipes in this book that I can't wait to try!
Another good book filled with recipes for every vegan out there, and also for everyone else. This is a versatile book with interesting recipes, something for everyone. I will most definitely try the sesame-chile-garlic tofu noodles, crispy tofu sandwiches, and bean chili. I just love it when I immediately find the recipes I need to try. Recommended!
I loved Nourishing Vegan Every Day, a visual feast of yummy treats.
As an avid reader of cookbooks, a vegan and a vegan cookbook author, I know what I like when it comes to foodie books, and this one did not disappoint.
There are quite a few recipes I'd love to try (those fudge cups!), and the photography is seriously out of this world, made all the more impressive when you consider the author took the photos.
Some of the recipes are a bit overlong, but that's just my preference, I prefer short and simple. Some of them are definitely worth the efgort.
Huge thanjs for my ARC!
The author of this book discusses really enjoying the photography aspect of being a foodie blogger and it shows. All the photos in this book are very well done. The dishes are artfully staged and lit. Sauces are arranged just so. Smoothies drip down the sides of glasses in ways that would be ever so annoying in real life but that look nice in photos for some reason. That all makes for an enjoyable book to look at before you even start considering the recipes.
The recipes are focused on using whole foods without a relying on processed meat substitutes or fake cheeses. I appreciate that. These are recipes that show off the versatility of vegan cooking with simple ingredients. There are several easy bowls to make and formulas for how to build your own. Many recipes are for variations of dishes that I already make often but I have highlighted several to try.
Peaches-and-Cream Baked Oats
No Yeast Sticky Pecan Buns
Two-Ingredient Flatbreads
Single Serve Cookie Dough (Four Ways)
Banoffee Pie Jars
Easy Vegan Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes
Red Velvet Cupcakes with Chocolate-Vanilla Swirl Buttercream
This cookbook would be wonderful for people who want to add more plant-based cooking into their repertoire without searching for ingredients that they may not be familiar with yet. These should also be familiar to most meat-eaters and a good bridge for anyone moving away from an omnivore diet.

The recipes are ok here. Nothing new if you read a lot of plant based blogs already. You’ll probably have already tried or seen similar recipes. The photographs didn’t work for me. Most of them had too much contrast making the food look unnatural and silly.
Even though I’ve been vegan for about seven years now, I had never heard about Nourishing Amy, or Amy Lanza, before. Not until I picked up their new cookbook, Nourishing Vegan Every Day, on NetGalley. I knew instantly that I wanted to have a closer look at this book that NetGalley offered as a “read now”, as I love cookbooks. I mainly use them for inspiration, but I’m definitively open to try out a recipe or two (though I feel free to tweak them).
This cookbook is even good for beginners, with its explanations of some terms in the beginning. Personally, having cooked vegan for many years (even before going vegan myself), I skipped this part. I appreciated the few American-English conversions, though (I didn’t know arugula was the same as rocket!)
The book has seven main parts or “chapters”: Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks, Sweets, and Celebrations. For me (a Norwegian), most of the lunch recipes could just as well have been dinners, but that’s just me being Norwegian and nitpicking. In general, the recipes are pretty basic, vegan dishes. Nothing wrong with that, and I think it’s really good if you’re brand new to cooking plant-based food.
One think I’m always worried about when it comes to vegan cookbooks, is if the dinners have no protein. A dinner that lacks a good source of protein mostly leave me very unsatisfied afterwards, and I get hungry again shortly after. Fortunately, this cookbook has plenty of recipes with tofu, chickpeas, and other legumes, and the recipes that don’t can easily be adjusted by adding some.
The book has a really nice layout, and the photos are appetizing. This cookbook can absolutely be recommended for any vegan, or anyone who wants to eat more plantbased.
Let's be real, when I'm looking at a cookbook, two things that make me lose immediate interest are 1) too many pages dedicated to various drinks and juices and 2) recipes that lean heavily into time-intensive and fussy recipes, rather than the ones I'm actually like to feel like making at the end of a long day. You don't have to worry about either of those here. The recipes in Nourishing Vegan Every Day are delicious, filling, AND healthy - better yet, they don't rely on obscure ingredients or imitation meats that I'll be running around looking for and eventually giving up on. They are vibrant and nutrient-rich without being the type of vegan meal that I'm going to want to eat a second follow-up meal after, which is sometimes the case with vegan cookbooks! I have no doubt that many of the meals here (namely the Cheesy Pesto and Sun-Dried Tomato Rolls and the Sun-Dried Tomato and Olive Scones - yes, I love a savory snack!) will be staples in my kitchen!
I received a copy of The Nourishing Vegan Every Day in exchange for my honest opinion.
I've just received my copy of this cookbook and cannot WAIT to crack it open and get to cooking. From the start, the book is visually appealing. It is bright with fantastic and appealing images throughout for the different recipes. Visually, the book is enjoyable and the text is easily readable for trying to view on a phone or tablet while cooking said recipe.
As a non-vegan who is looking into adding more plant-based recipes to their diet (and trying to majorly reduce meat and animal product intake), I appreciate a cookbook with so many different recipes that look utterly delicious and easy to incorporate into my life. The photos that accompany each recipe look to die for and showcase that vegan food is fun, colorful, and delicious! I cannot wait to try all of these and incorporate more vegan options into my meals!
Beautiful recipes and accompanying photos. The ingredients all seem reasonably common, which isn't always a give-in with vegan cookbooks. I'm especially excited about the Single-Serve Cookie (Four Ways) recipe.
Really loved this recipe book. Lots of interesting and new to me recipes! Like that they are complex seeming recipes - so can really impress - but have simple and easy to find ingredients.
Thank you to Quarto Fair Winds Press and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this great book. I enjoyed the wonderful everyday vegan recipes, most of which are accompanied by a photo of the finished dish. Looking forward to making some of the dishes for my family.
This book has so many amazing vegan recipes. I like that there are options to make things gluten free and nut free as well. There is large variety of delicious vegan foods.
What a great resource for vegans and those who love them! As a non-vegan myself but an interested home cook, I'm looking to understand and incorporate more Vegan dishes into my life and particularly my entertaining so that all my guests feel welcome. I dove into Nourishing Vegan Every Day by Amy Lanza to find some holiday dishes for friends and relatives and came away with a deeper understanding of vegan cooking. And some great food for all! Clear instructions, well-developed flavors and good photos. Perfect gift book or addition to a cook book library.
Loved the recipes in this new cookbook! It can be hard to find new and exciting vegan recipes but this book is full of them. Lots of original ideas to change up your vegan meals while keeping the ingredients clean and simple, So many new ideas that I can’t wait to make and taste! Thank you
A great cook book filled with gorgeous and delicious looking dishes. I get frustrated with cook books that don't show what some of the food looks like, or a book that doesn't have the photos matched up with the recipes and you have to jump around to find them. Not only is this book incredibly well organized, you can easily see what the plating and dishes should/could look like, the directions are easily followed, and the food looks damn good.
I don't often review cookbooks, but I am happily making an exception for Nourishing Vegan Every Day by Amy Lanza. OMG...I want to cook up every single recipe in this book! Over the past year or so, I've been steadily transitioning to a fully vegan diet--no small feat when living in small town Mississippi and the term "vegan" is often misunderstood as meaning "those little green guys from Venus" or maybe someone hailing from Las Vegas. Either way, telling someone you're vegan in Mississippi means they'll more than likely look at you as though you've sprouted two heads. Thankfully, there are a plethora of cookbooks on the market catering to the vegan/plant-based lifestyle.
Amy Lanza's dishes in Nourishing Vegan Every Day are hunger-inducing. (My stomach began growling almost instantly!) Using simple, easily sourced ingredients each recipe seduces the reader/cook to try it. What can be more simple than whipping up a batch of overnight oats? Easily when provided multiple variations? And the Vegan Eggs Benedict...oh, honey. Eggs Benedict have been a favorite of mine since my dad introduced them to me when I was a teen. Now I can have a vegan version of them? Yes, please! From breakfast and brunch to lunch and dinner to desserts and more, every page is filled with mouthwatering recipes and bright, colorful photos you'll want to lick because they look so amazing. (Gingerbread Layer Cake, I'm looking at you, and you, too, Salted Caramel Cookie Dough Ice Cream...)
Whether you're new to the vegan lifestyle, curious about the plant-based food hype, or just looking to incorporate more healthy meal alternatives into your diet, Nourishing Vegan Every Day makes veganism approachable, simple to understand, and delectable. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some cooking to do.
