Seriously so much fun! Love Nola's name. I love their banter. I love the ending! This was everything I wanted out of a holiday book...not drawn out, witty dialogue and some bawdy language!
That was such a cute short story!! I actually wanted it to be longer but know it was the perfect length for a little Christmas story.
After a breakup Nola moves back to her hometown where her first love and the one who broke her heart Caleb still resides. With some meddling from the people in their lives they unknowingly become pen pals over the holiday season. Two people who equally hate Christmas.
This book was funny and cute. While this was the perfect length for the kind of story part of me was wishing for more because I really wanted more of Nola and Caleb. Definitely a good holiday story!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book!

This was a cute, short, and sweet holiday romance. I read it in a day and enjoyed myself. I liked the setting of a small town in Maine; I liked the second-chance romance and the different characters in the story. I think the story had the right amount of humor and charm. Because of its length, there wasn’t a lot of depth to the story, but it still had enough where you cared about the characters and wanted them to find their HEA.
If you’re looking for something short and sweet, I’d recommend picking this one up!
Thank you to NetGalley and Amazon Original stories for this advanced copy. Resting Scrooge Face comes out on 11/29!
I loved being back in the Port Snow world and this was definitely a cute twist on the famous Scrooge. The letters back and forth were engaging and witty and reminded me of some of Meghan's best banters. Short, sweet, with the ever present meddling family and friends, a story to brighten up your holidays no matter how you may feel about Christmas this year.
This is the perfect holiday read, it’s got all the things we didn’t know we needed and it’s delivered perfectly. This is a short story which works well for the busy holiday season.
Nola and Caleb have a past, but can they have a future? With some help of a couple of secret elves can they find their Christmas spirit and then maybe find their way back to each other?
Go grab this one, it’s sweet, funny and filled with holiday spirit!!
If you’re looking for a short holiday story to bring a smile to your face, this is the one. This is the perfect little piece of escapism to enjoy while you’re taking a break from everyday life.
Did I wish that this was a longer story? Not really. It was advertised as a short story and that’s just what I wanted. It delivered the right amount of humor, romance, and festive cheer.
My favorite part of the story was definitely the letters between Resting Scrooge Face and Ho Ho No. I loved their banter, their disdain for their town’s Christmas festivities, and their general attitudes toward the holiday season, which made me liken them to anti-Hallmark-Christmas-movie people.
Resting Scrooge Face did what it was meant to do. It made me smile, laugh, and look forward to the holiday season with my loved ones!

Nola is back in her hometown of Bright Harbor, Maine after breaking up with her boyfriend right before Christmas. She's trying hard to avoid Caleb, the man who broke her heart years ago. Then she runs into the local mailman and he gives her a letter from a mysterious man who, like her, is also in no mood for Christmas this year.
Nola decides to write the mystery man back, not knowing that the letter writer is Caleb. Caleb is surprised to get a response to his letter. Nola and Caleb create a friendship through their letters that turns into flirtation. Eventually they agree to meet in person. Can Nola and Caleb forgive their past and move on and have a future?
Resting Scrooge Face is a second chance romance. This is a perfect short story to read in one sitting. It has all the Christmas vibes. My favorite part was reading the back and forth letters that were written between Nola and Caleb. They were filled with so much humor. When Caleb and Nola were together in person, you could tell the two of them still loved each other, but had some things from their past that they needed to work through. I definitely want to read Untying the Knot to see some more of Nola. This story just wasn't long enough!
Caleb and Nola broke up years ago but both have unresolved feelings for one another. Neither are feeling the Christmas spirit so with the guidance of a friend, they begin writing anonymous letters to each other slowly breaking down the icy barrier surrounding their Christmas joy.
I enjoyed the witty banter between Caleb and Nola and the many laugh out loud moments in the book. It was a feel good, festive short story that was the perfect jumpstart to my holiday reading!
Meghan Quinn knows how to make readers laugh and swoon… often at the same time. Loved this short story that’s bound to elevate the Christmas spirit for every reader.
The best paced novella I’ve read this year. I read Meghan Quinn’s other novella last year and thought the same. She sure knows how to pace out a storyline. Nothing felt rushed or awkward. Highly recommend.
Are other cities and characters from her other books mentioned? YES! Will you be lost if you haven’t read any of her other books? NO! Read this and laugh and swoon.

This second-chance, Christmas romance short story kept me smiling. There was also an epistolary aspect to the story which I adored. Nola and Caleb had a devastating breakup several years ago and haven't spoken since. Nola has moved back to their hometown and is doing everything she can to avoid Caleb. Neither of them are feeling the Christmas vibes and they both end up writing to a secret penpal about their grinchy feelings. Do you think their heart might grow two sizes? Read it and find out!

This is a sweet short story which is sort of a side story to Meghan's recent release, Untying The Knot. While I was not a fan of Untying The Knot, this story features Ryot's sister Nola and the story of her relationship and it was a cute read.
The story features a sweet mistaken identity/second chance romance. It's funny that I wished this story had been longer and had more depth because my recent criticisms of Meghan's books have been how long they have been. ha ha. But the really short nature of this story made it hard to really get connected to the characters.
Overall, this is a sweet, feel good Christmas story.

This novella gave me all the warm Christmas feels with its unique premise of the secret Scrooge letters between these two unsuspecting enemies/first loves! It’s also set in one of my favorite places, Maine, in a Hallmark like town.
I loved Nola and Caleb and even though it is a short read, I felt that they had a really strong relationship and I’m so glad they figured everything out!
Resting Scrooge Face is as cute and funny as the title implies!

Tropes: Second-chance romance, high-school sweetheart to enemies (ish) to loves, small town, holiday romance
After meeting Nola in 'Untying the Knot', I was hoping we would get her story, so seeing this story announced was a twin. Set in the fictional small-town of Bright Harbor, Maine, 'Resting Scrooge Face' follows Nola Bisley and Caleb Butler, our resident grinches who share a history. Fresh on the heels of break-up, Nola returns to her hometown of Bright Harbor where the boy who broke her heart still resides. Caleb is still living regret over the ‘one that got away. Both are eager to avoid each other, but fate, a dash of Christmas spirt and meddling townspeople (here’s looking at you Arden) had other plans.
I adored how Nola and Caleb became penpals over their shared distain over the Christmas holidays. The letters they traded were flirty & hilarious, which I should have known would be the case because if there is one thing about Meghan Quinn? MQ is going to make you laugh and put the comedy in romantic-comedy, every single time. The ball massage story will not be leaving my mind anytime soon.
'Resting Scrooge Face' is an adorable, lighthearted rom-com, guaranteed to make you laugh out loud and leave you with a smile on your face by the end of it! A enjoyable novella, perfect for kicking off the holiday season. Short and sweet and will probably - definitely - leave you wanting more (I know i could probably ready 400 more pages of Nola, Caleb and the meddling townspeople!).
What an awesome, cute novella that gave us an inside to Nola and Caleb and why and how they were one and then no more …. But you see Christmas always has a way of bringing people together even if your pen pal names are .. Resting Scrooge Face and Ho Ho No !!
With the help of mailman Arden and Grandma Louise maybe just maybe these two can see they were always ment to be together !!
So cute and enjoyable !! Loved it !!
Resting Scrooge Face is a super short super quick holiday read. It pairs anonymous pen pals with second chance romance. There are meddling old people which I love. Overall it was cutesy and quick but nothing overly amazing.
Resting Scrooge Face by Meghan Quinn was better than I was expecting!
I love Meghan's writing and the characters she created are so relatable and loveable.
I had the absolute best time reading this one.
Even though it felt more of a slowburn this was still a sweet, quick read.
A wonderful story about high school sweethearts.

Super short holiday story by Meghan Quinn! Low spice and just fun vibes.
Our two MCs, Nola and Caleb, are high school exes who went separate ways, but find their way back to one another.
But of course their HEA is not possible without a meddling mailman, hilarious run-ins and flirty, festive letters.
This story will put you in a good mood - especially if you’ve read Untying the Knot and the Port Snow Series. All of the Port Snow Series easter eggs made me super giddy.

I love Christmas stories and any story where there is a grump, even better! This short story focuses on old loves who unknowingly become scroogelike pen pals when one of them moves back to town.
Caleb and Nola make quite the pair! Their history comes through as does their mutual disdain for all things Christmas. Quinn’s humor shines through in all interactions and the short story will leave you begging for more.

I thought this short story / novella was so cute! I think that the letters were so much fun that I wish there were more of them. I also think that the "I love you" at the end would have been much more believable if the individual characters had talked more about how much they were in love when they were together / how those feelings have never really gone away. It was difficult to believe the ILY at the end without the build up of longing. But super well written and tons of fun, great quick cozy Christmas read.
