I have always enjoyed Meghan Quinn's book and this was no exception! Resting Scrooge Face is a super cute Xmas short story! (great to get you out of a slump). If you enjoy the trope of second chance Romances this will put you in the holiday spirit for Sure! Our MCs Nola and Caleb are entertaining and somewhat relatable. They dislike the holidays and its cute how it brings them together in this cheesy holiday story
Thank you to Amazon Original Stories and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this digital ARC
Resting Scrooge Face was a delightful short holiday romance story.
It is dual POVs of the main characters, Nola Bisley and Caleb Butler, and has some great tropes like: secret pen pals, a small town and second chance romance.
The overall premise was very enjoyable and it was short and to the point.
It was a very short and sweet Christmas read. It did however come off a bit "insta-lovey" to me, and really felt like 50 pages of a hallmark holiday movie--both of which I am not the biggest fan of.
Thank you NetGalley and Amazon Original Stories for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Amazon Original stories for this advanced copy. Resting Scrooge Face will be out on November 29th.
Well this was a freaking adorable novella! Had some of the typical Meghan Quinn humor and some amazing meddling grandparents. I loved the letters back and forth, I couldn't stop laughing at their mutual hatred of the holidays. I enjoyed this quick holiday read about second chances.

The best short stories are the ones that you wish you could get just a little more of and Resting Scrooge Face is one such story! Set in a cute Hallmark-esque small town at Christmas, this second chance romance was sweet, funny, and absolutely put me in the Christmas spirit. Quinn manages to pack tons of holiday spirit into this story and I found myself wishing I could be drinking a hot chocolate while sending letters to an anonymous writer that I was slowly falling in love with.
Thank you to NetGalley and Amazon Original Stories for an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!
This was the cutest little short story! I loved getting to know Nola and Caleb. I love second chance romance stories and this one was so funny! I read it on a flight and it was the perfect story to pass the time.
Short synopsis: Feeling a little Grinchy, Caleb writes a letter to no one complaining about Christmas. When he gets a letter in return his spirits begin to lift.
My thoughts: This was a sweet short story about two people reconnecting with their dislike for Christmas after their previous breakup.
Told through Caleb and Nola’s POV and through a series of letters penned from Resting Scrooge Face and HoHoNo, the letters start by mutual hatred for the Holiday that is widely celebrated in their small community. After a short time, they start to get a littler sillier and deeper.
This is the perfect quick holiday read about forgiveness, admitting when you’re wrong, and taking chances.
Read if you love:
* Second chance romance
* Eggnog and Gingerbread cookies
* Secret pen pals
* His/her POV
* Mistletoe
Thank you so much @netgalley and Amazon Original stories for the advanced copy of this book! Publication date is November 29, 2022 perfect for the upcoming holiday season!
This was a super cute Christmas short story. If you like second chance romances, this is the perfect little Christmas read to get you in the festive mood! Nola and Caleb’s anonymous correspondence was goofy, entertaining, and flirty. Their disdain for the holiday season stemmed from the same reasons, and it was incredibly heartwarming to see them recognize their common ground, reunite, and embrace the cheesy holiday couple-y traditions.
Resting Scrooge Face is a short festive story with a very catchy title. It’s an easy fast read with a bit of humour. I mostly enjoyed the banter via anonymous letters between the two main characters. But overall, I thought the stakes were just too low. It’s a rather conventional romance. It’s no the kind of book that makes a lasting impression or that I’d pick up again and read every year.
Resting Scrooge Face is a super cute and sweet second chance all wrapped up in the goodness of Christmas. It’s the perfect Christmas novella to get you in the Christmas spirit🎄
Nola finds herself dreading her move back to her home town because she will inevitably run into the boy who broke her heart. Except he’s no longer a joy. He is a super sexy hardware (yep good with his hands😉) store owner. The boy has grown up into a mighty fine man who is not feeling the Christmas spirit either until his Resting Scrooge face letter is answered by Ho Ho No🎅🏻💝

I mean, I ate a gingerbread cookie last night and I liked it. I think these letters are having a reverse effect. They’re making me feel all ooey gooey inside.

I also sniffed a pine tree and exhaled with a smile. This guy, Resting Scrooge Face, smiled at the smell of a pine tree.
A short story that is perfect for holiday time written by a best selling author! It was an easy read and the characters had good energy. I love the cover and that’s why I requested the copy. Thanks to NeyGalley for making it happen. Four stars!
If you are looking for short stories to brighten up your Christmas reading then this would be a good choice.
Resting Scrooge Face (not a title you could forget in a hurry!) tells the story of Nola and Caleb whose love story seemed to be over when she went off to university and then stayed to enjoy life in the city. Caleb made his life in their small town. Now Nola is back and newly single. Both are embarrassed to meet again, but an exchange of letters overseen by Arden, the mailman, sets them up on a collision course.
The humour is good especially the letters, the characters are delightful and the story, although short, is sweet. This is a lighthearted Christmas tale which should lift anyone's holiday spirit.
This short but sweet little gem gave me some grinchy You’ve Got Mail vibes, and I loved it!
Like other Meghan Quinn’s books, you can anticipate witty, entertaining writing that’s easy to sink into from start to finish.
Not to mention the eye-catching book cover - Meghan Quinn’s covers are some of my favorites.
This second-chance romance was the perfect read to kick-start any holiday reading! 🎄
Thank you, NetGalley Meghan Quinn and Amazon Original Stories, for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review!
“Resting Scrooge Face” is a quick blast of holiday cheer. Two former lovers bring the Scrooge and Grinch energy when they find themselves back in the same holiday cheer-filled small town. Little do they know that some town members plan to fill them with cheer—and to bring them together again—through a little meddling. Will Caleb and Nola end up together under the mistletoe?
This short story is good for fans of
- Second chance romance (but without the heaviness and typical angst from that trope)
- Enemies-to-lovers vibes
- Epistolary romance—give me all the anonymous letters
- Small town coziness
- Meddling elders
- Kissing only
I hope this short story brings as many grins to your face as it did to mine.
I received an advance copy from Amazon Original Stories and NetGalley. All review opinions are my own.
I GRABBED THIS ONE OFF NETGALLEY NOT REALIZING IT WAS A NOVELLA. THIS HAS SOLIDIFIED THAT I JUST DON’T DO WELL WITH NOVELLAS. I NEED MORE.
IF YOU WANT SOMETHING YOU COULD READ IN LIKE 30 MINUTES AND GET CUTE HALLMARK VIBES, BY ALL MEANS. I JUST WAS SUPER BORED AND FELT LIKE IT WAS MAJORLY LACKING. EVEN THE COUPLES RELATIONSHIP FELT OFF.
So cute! 😫 I’m not a huge fan of short stories mostly because I never connect with the characters or the couple, but Nola and Caleb were adorable and I am a sucker for second chance romance sooo… Yeah, definitely a great christmas morning read!
“Sometimes people come back into your life for a reason.”
This second chance, holiday romance was so much fun. It’s a little like You’ve Got Mail with the pen-pal aspect and Nola and Caleb’s encounters and letters brought such a huge smile to my face.
Caleb and Nola were high school sweethearts until Caleb broke Nola’s heart. She left town and tried to move on, but now she finds herself back in their small town during Christmas. Both Nola and Caleb are definitely not in the Christmas spirit and become unwitting pen pals discussing their dislike of everything about the holidays. Will these two exes rediscover their holiday spirit and their feelings for each other?
“Even during our time apart, even when our hearts were both shattered, it’s always been you. Always and forever.”
The letters between Caleb and Nola were hilarious. They were heartfelt and humorous and raised some good points. LOL. I loved watching the juxtaposition between their in person encounters and their letters. Both were fun for different reasons. Their banter was spirited and full of so many repressed feelings. Watching them rediscover their love for Christmas and each other was heartwarming.
This lighthearted, easy read will definitely fill you with the spirit of the holidays. Full of humor, heat, and heart, Resting Scrooge Face is an absolute delight!
This was a cute novella that was easy to get into. I enjoyed the letters between Resting Scrooge Face and Ho Ho No. A fun second chance romance Christmas read.
3/5
Short, the only reason why I finished it was that it was so short.
With short books it’s really hard to write characters that the reader can care about and I enjoyed the back ground characters more than the main characters. I didn’t feel like I cared about their relationship at all because the chemistry really wasn’t there for me.
The ending was cute but I wish Meghan Quinn had made it a little longer so that we could have seen more from the main characters.
I did like the humor but the emotional depth wasn’t there. It was a cute fun Christmas read I was just left wanting more.
Thank you NetGalley and Amazon original stores for an advanced copy in return for my honest opinions.
This was a sweet little holiday novella! I loved the letter writing between Resting Scrooge Fave and Ho Ho No! It was fun to see them regain their holiday spirit and fall for each other through their letters. I know it was a novella, but I still would’ve liked a little more story!
