This was a cute but short story. It was fun seeing Nola and Caleb go from scrooges to falling (back) in love. I also enjoyed reading the story of the sister of Ryot (Untying the Knot) and Banner!
I tend to love Christmas book in which one the main characters wants nothing to do with Christmas. Normally it’s the guy who hates Christmas. But In Resting Scrooge Face it’s Nola the heroine who wants nothing to do with Christmas. So this one was a refreshing change. And I also loved that this one was hate to love. Which is one of my favorite rom Com tropes. And this one has a bit of you’ve got mail vibes, just with letters not emails. So it was a sweet Christmas read without being over the top Christmassy.
Easy, quick Christmas read. I feel like it could’ve been better than it was, but it is just a short story. There are open plot holes too.
Resting Scrooge by Meghan Quinn was cute and cozy holiday novella about two grumps who learn to love Christmas! Nola and Caleb were such easy characters to fall in love with, and you couldn’t help but cheer for them to fin their own HEA! Perfect holiday read!
Cute book! Quick read too. Love the letters back and forth between MC. Even the side characters have a happy ending!
“Dear Christmas, I despise you…”
This was an adorable yet funny short holiday romance story coming in at 80 pages. Resting Scrooge Face is all wrapped up package with a pretty bow full with old flames, pen pals, and a postal worker playing matchmaker bringing together two people by way of written letters.
Nola and Caleb have a few things in common…they were once in love and they both hate Christmas. Referring to themselves respectively as “Resting Scrooge Face” and “Ho Ho No” writing unbeknownst letters back and forth, they commiserate over Christmas and how mistletoe is the devil’s weed 😂. I was hoping for just a tad of Christmas steam, but sadly there was none.
“You haven’t changed a bit, Nola. Still beautiful and funny as ever.”

A special thank you to NetGalley and Amazon Original Stories for this eARC! Resting Scrooge Face is out now!
This was a cute short story. Although short, the author still was able to give the characters depth and not make it insta love.
This is such a cute little Christmas novella. It’s short, but it is adorable with its small-town Christmas cheer and plenty of love for every character. I think this little book would warm a heart and help bring in the Christmas cheer.
I love this author so much and was excited to get the chance to read this novella. It was just what I expected a sweet love story with a bit of background. I thought it was the perfect length and I got exactly what I wanted from it.
I thought it was a cute storyline with Nola moving back home and Caleb having never left (well not for long). Nola and Caleb were pretty much opposites but we know the saying “opposites attract”.
I enjoyed the second chance romance trope. I thought it was done really well. I’m excited to continue reading from the author!
2.5/5 stars, lots of potential but no buildup
While my arc copy was only 50 pages long, I was hoping for a bit more out of this story. All it really consisted of was two people writing letters back and forth, not liking one another, then suddenly liking one another, and meeting up to make out. Oh, and falling in love with Christmas again after like two letters back and forth.
Reading it at the moment it wasn't horrible, the characters, setting, and plot just had no substance. Sometimes those little stories are needed but in the end, this one truly didn't have an impact on me. If I hadn't taken notes I probably wouldn't have remembered as much about it.
I will definitely look into more from this author because there were a couple of moments that I did really enjoy, and I think the original idea for this story was really fun.
[TW: breakups]
Ahhhh this was such a cute and sweet read! I loved the letters back and forth. This was my first Meghan Quinn and I loved it!
This holiday novella delivered everything that you'd want in a Christmas romance!
This was my first book by Meghan Quinn, but now I'm pretty sure it won't be my last (though I think I've heard some of her other novels are spicier)!
RESTING SCROOGE FACE by Meghan Quinn
rating: 4 STARS
genre: holiday romance, romance
steam: closed door
A second chance, meddling neighbors, You've Got Mail style letters, and more!
I really loved seeing two people open up to a complete stranger about their lives...and to watch them fall in love all over again. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick way to round out your holiday reading this season!
What a wonderful Christmas novella! I couldn't have asked for more. This was a cute and fun second chance romance set at Christmas time. Caleb and Nola are former high school sweethearts that broke up when she moved away....but now she's back and it seems the feeling from before are still alive. I would have enjoyed a bit more about these two - but I still loved this short little treat!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to read and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.
A good short read this holiday season!
I took a hiatus from Meghan Quinn books, and this was a short and sweet welcome. It was funny, cute, and a bit quirky, which of course are MQ staples.
This was super cute and fun! A short read with perfect christmas vibes! I laughed a lot and loved the author's writing style! Will definitely check out other books by her.
Such a fun read! I enjoyed the quick novella of Nola's story. It lacked the steam I'm used to with Meghan Quinn, but included all of her wit and humor!
this was so cute and fun! meghan quinn never disappoints! characters were well developed even while being a novella, and i felt like i was really there in maine!
Nola returns to her hometown after a breakup and is trying to avoid an ex boyfriend from her past, Caleb. Caleb is miserable thinking about Nola returning to town and starts writing a letter complaining about Christmas. After throwing it in the garbage, Arden, a nosey mailman, decided to deliver the letter to Nola. Soon Nola and Caleb are unknowingly writing back and forth to each other.
Resting Scrooge Face was cute and adorable, and I thoroughly enjoyed this short story. I look forward to reading more from Meghan Quinn.
If you are looking for a quick holiday read, look no further than the novella Resting Scrooge Face by @meghanquinnbooks.
In this short but sweet romance we meet Nola and Caleb, ex sweethearts who are reluctantly reunited with Nola comes back to town. While trying to avoid running into her ex, she actually runs into the mailman. He gives her a letter from another local who isn’t exactly feeling the Christmas spirit either. Meanwhile Caleb gets a mysterious note at the same time. Both write back to the other and become amused by the interaction, never knowing their old flame is the person behind the paper.
The more they correspond, the more their connection grows. Will these two former flames rekindle their attraction or will they merely return to sender upon realizing the truth?
I don’t tend to read a lot of novellas because I find it’s very hard to invest in characters you don’t get to spend a lot of time with. That being said, there’s something about a holiday novella that feels like it’s the exception to the rule. While I still wanted more out of the Nola and Caleb romance, this book gave me a taste of Quinn’s writing style. She’s an author who has been on my radar for awhile, but I’ve never gotten to check out til now. I’d like to read more full length novels from her in the future.
Oh and the whole letter writing your once significant other thing gave me major Pina Colada Song vibes. Perhaps I’m dating myself or perhaps it’s just me. 😜
Resting Scrooge Face is a super short and sweet novella from Meghan Quinn. It is a one sitting reading and has plenty of holiday cheer and adorable characters. I would have loved a full length book about these two since they have a great story and I want to know more, but it worked. Recommend.
