Absolutely perfect for the Holliday season. An east quick read to curl up with and take a break from the busy.
So stinking cute. This was a perfect short story to read by the Christmas tree. It was like a hallmark movie in book form. I do wish it were longer but I knew it was a short story going in.
I received an eARC from NetGalley and Avon in exchange for an honest review. Nola has come back to her hometown after a bad breakup. She's not in the mood for Christmas, and she's definitely not in the mood to run into her high school sweetheart before she moved away. Caleb already dislikes Christmas but now he has to avoid the one that got away, who he ended things with in a very regrettable way. He writes and throws out an anonymous letter to no one in particular about how much he hates the holiday season. Without letting Caleb know, the local mailman picks the letter out of the trash and delivers it to Nola. They begin an anonymous Scrooge letter exchange. But will they be able to get over their mutual avoidance if/when they find out who they're writing to?
This is a cute You've Got Mail type Christmas novella, but it was a little too on the nose for me. I liked both characters and the meddling mailman, I appreciated the backstories they had and the epistolary style. It just wasn't the book for me. I'd recommend this to someone looking for a Christmas novella with no steam, epistolary, second chance romance.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Dear Christmas,
I despise you.”

- HEA guaranteed!
Caleb has only had one great love in his life; and now she’s moved back to town… He broke up with Nola because he didn’t want her to give up on her dreams for him, but she obviously did not see it that way and took it pretty hard. They begin exchanging letters “pen-pal style” not knowing who is even on the other side that they are writing to, and thus spilling quite a bit of information unknowingly to eat other. They soon find out their real identities and it leads to a Christmasy second chance for both of them …….
This book is the perfect Christmas book to get into that Christmasy spirit! The detailed descriptions of the scenery/decor/sounds/smells and Christmas cheer all throughout the book really gave me the Christmasy feel that I’m hoping for when picking out a Christmas book. I really felt like I was in a beautiful, picturesque wintery small town, celebrating Christmas alongside the characters. A very enjoyable read for sure 💕
I love the format of part storytelling and part written letters. I honestly can’t say why I like this lol I think it’s just pleasing to my eyes and brain to break up the monotony of just plain black text.
This book was funny! I actually laughed out loud a few times throughout this book I love that. I loved the snarky personality of “Ho-Ho-Ho” in her letters 🤪 I also really liked the arrogance and intellect that came out in “Resting Scrooge Face”’s writing style.
I love a dual POV because then we get to see two sides to the story at the same time.
The banter between the two was hilarious and entertaining; I loved it. I really liked the main character Nola; she has a very similar sense of humour to my own, so I find myself very quickly identifying with and rooting for her to get her Happily Ever After! Arden, the matchmaking mailman was the absolute best character of all!
This was my first Meghan Quinn after wanting to give her a try for a whiiiiiiiile now, and I absolutely love her writing style! I will definitely be reading more of her books in the very near future 😍
This was a short novella and I read it very quickly. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a Christmasy rom-com with a little less of a commitment than the typical 300-400 page novel.
OMG, this was the cutest holiday short story! There wasn't any steam but loved it so much! It was reminiscent of You've Got Mail and it evoked so much nostalgia. It was short, sweet and merry! This gets all the stars!
Thank you, NetGalley and Meghan Quinn, for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!
Loved loved loved loved!!! Nola and Caleb are a dream. The only thing I wish is that it was a full novel. This wasn’t nearly enough of these characters!
“Even during our time apart, even when our hearts were both shattered, it’s always been you. Always and forever.”

Review: Resting Scrooge Face by Meghan Quinn.
💌
I was surprised with this short story by Meghan. Both male and female characters are “Christmas grumpy” and that alone brought so many funny moments to Nola and Caleb second chance love story, I couldn’t help but love them. And although it didn’t have any steamy scene, it had plenty of banter, great grandma and older mailman melding, sassy Nola and some grovel by Caleb.
When Nola returns to her hometown, who she really doesn’t wanna see is her ex, Caleb, the one who got away by breaking her heart in the past. But it’s a small town and soon enough they cross fingers and sparks and resentment run free. However, unknowingly to each other, they start to exchange letters telling each other how they don’t like Christmas. Only to heal each others heart and next thing they know they were what each other needed to enjoy the holidays again.
This story was a good Christmas surprise, that I’ve read in one sitting.
Do yourself a favor and add this novella to your holiday TBR!
It’s quite short (only 80 pages) and it’s just perfect. Plus, it’s set in a small little town in Maine which means we got some glimpses of my favorite fictional town from @meghanquinnbooks Getting Lucky series.
Read this one is you love:
🎄pen pals
🎄second chance romance
🎄meddling townspeople
🎄low steam (only kissing)
It’s available on Kindle Unlimited. Enjoy!
I loved this second chance romance! The secret letters were the freaking sweetest, and I enjoyed being a part of their rekindling romance, unbeknownst to them. Like I was a part of the secret!
Resting Scrooge face is a cute novella about two people who don’t like christmas. I really liked this book, it was cosy and I laughed a lot whiles I was reading it. And it can be relatable about the Christmas music on replay. And thanks to NetGalley and Amazon original Story’s I was able to read it and and give and an honest review!
What a delightful lighthearted holiday read. It’s short so things are jam packed into this one and it makes for some missing story depth but it does pack the typical Megan Quinn punch. It’s all about the one who got away- a second chance trope. It’s so much fun. There’s the delight of physical letters to get the main characters interacting.
We have our main character Nola, newly single, and a bit of a holiday grump. Her primary goal is not to run into her ex when she moves home. A letter exchange, at first anonymous, loosens things up between them, and over time makes them realize that, of course, they’re perfect for each other.
A cute and quick second-chance romance for the holiday season.
High school sweethearts, Nola and Caleb, are given a second chance to rekindle their spark after a bit of meddling by the town postman.
This ARC was provided by the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVE this novella. I need more!!! It was so cute. It's a second chance and small town. Totally loved all the characters. Nola and Caleb needs more time together. The side characters made the story even better.
Nola and Caleb both didn't like Christmas. Both ended up writing letters to one another without knowing who they're writing to about how much they dislike Christmas. Imagine you were writing letters to your ex the entire time. What would you do when you found out?
Chef kisses!!!
Not my favourite MQ. Even for a novella, this felt rushed and incomplete. While still a sweet Christmas epistolary rom-com, it lacked the classic Meghan Quinn sexiness. The reunion between these two felt tense and unfinished! Wished we could have gotten just a little bit more from Nola!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Resting Scrooge Face by Meghan Quinn. It’s the perfect book to get you into the holiday spirit. This small town, second chance romance reads like a Christmas Hallmark movie. With enemies to lovers and a You’ve Got Mail style plot that will leave you with all the feels, Quinn delivers a holiday novella that can easily be read in one sitting.
Thank you to Netgalley and Amazon Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this sweet holiday romance.
A quick and easy holiday read. A cute story about a second chance at love. It will get you into the Christmas spirit.
Short, sweet, Christmas second chance novella. Perfect for getting out of a reading slump and getting into the holiday spirit.
This fun and sweet read is sure to brighten your holidays even if you are generally in the bah-humbug mood. Being brought back together by a series of letters was the perfect way to reunite this sweet couple. This story warmed my heart, the banter brought a smile to my face and there was just enough romance to curl your toes.
Sweet little short story of finding love again with a little help from your friends. This is a Christmas delight to read. Grab a Christmassy drink and enjoy the story in one sitting!
This was a really cute little Christmas novella with Ryot’s sister. (It took me longer than I care to admit to make that connection though 🤦🏻♀️) I really enjoyed the letters and how they each transformed as time went on. It would have been a nice full length book too!!
