I really enjoy all the author’s series set in the Fens but my favourite is the DI Nikki Galena series. Not only do we have the odd mention of some of the characters from the other series, which I love popping up in each other’s stories, we are actually joined by some of them here.
When Nikki starts to receive odd communications on old Air Mail letters which seem to be personally directed at her, it opens a huge can of worms concerning cold unsolved cases of missing women. Cases which could not be solved are, bodies not recovered are found and perpetrators not brought to justice are finally caught, all by a vigilante who seems to be making a mockery of the police and their previous failures. To add to this there’s a stalker in the area making women feel very uncomfortable. At the same time Nikki’s mum has a new hobby and is unearthing history that some in the village would prefer were kept secret. Brilliant main plots and the subplots and characters develop along nicely in the background. Another belter of a read from this oh so talented author
I only got my copy of this book this morning and I've finished it. It's always a happy/sad time with a Joy Ellis book. She's not as gory as some writers, but she's always got a good story - whichever of her detectives is in the driving seat - and this is no exception. It's a big, big case, with no less than three Detective Superintendents helping DI Nikki Galena.
Brilliant book, loved it.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher I read a free advance review copy of the book. This review is voluntary, honest and my own opinion.
Nikki received an old fashioned airmail letter. On the stationary inside simply written was “you failed me” Bringing a gut reaction to Nikki, saying it shows a lot of hate and accusation from the person, and it’s only the beginning.
Young woman feeling they are being watched. While Nikki going thru the long list of people that had a grudge against her. Delightful to reacquaint with people of the fen, the lovely meals Joseph fixes.
Given ARC by Net Galley and Joffe for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
