Just the cozy found family fantasy read I was needing while I spent the day unwinding with crafts and this audiobook. Listened to it in a single day and I was absorbed right in like I was watching it unfold like a comforting tv drama.

I don’t know what I was expecting going into listening to this audiobook, but I could not have predicted how much I would enjoy this read. Is it cheesy in some ways? Sure. Do some of the conversations or other elements seem abrupt, like the author is intentionally trying to share their social ideas, like other reviewers have mentioned? Sure. But something cozy and a bit cheesy is exactly the type of warmth I was hoping for in this read. And it delivered while it had me giggling or crooning over several heartwarming scenes. I loved every character in this story and I loved that they each had their own separate arc. While it was a bit surface level at times, I loved the amount of LGBT+ representation and how it was just a fact and not a main focus of many of the characters’ story arc. While I enjoy an LGBT+ read that delves into identity, I also love seeing writing where that identity simply exists in the word but does not feel like it needs to be the main story arc of the character in question.

Going into this book, I thought, with a quick read of the synopsis, this book would have a heavier supernatural - specifically witchy - focus, but it was much lighter than I expected. There are certainly supernatural characters and storylines in this book, but don’t expect a complex magic system or heavy explanation of the supernatural beings. Instead, this book was mostly a found family story focusing around the renovation of a quirky purple Victorian house - and that’s exactly what it needed to be for me to enjoy it.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook.

4 stars

I really enjoyed this book and completed it in one sitting. My only concern was that the male character had the stalker vibes happening that at times verged on the creepy. I didn't realise this was the 4th in a series but I did not feel that I missed out on a lot of the background, particularly the main characters family based on what was in this book.
The twist on family was a interesting surprise although as there was already a lot going on with all the other characters it did lose some of the enjoyment element for me but that is a me issue rather than due to the author. A great romance/cozy mystery for lovers of that genre.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a copy of the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a fun author! I really enjoyed her previous witchy romances! I was so glad to have been given this one! I thought this one was fun and magical! I think the MC’s were a good match! I also enjoyed all the different characters we got to meet! All in all a good magical romance!

First off- the cover of this book is immaculate and it gives such perfect spooky season vibes.
I did enjoy this book however I was expecting it to be more of a romance and it read like a fantasy with a sprinkle of romance between Iris and Eli. If you go into it knowing that it’s definitely at least a 4 star read.

I love Ann’s writing and I know how capable of brilliant work she is, which is why I picked up this book. This one is totally different to what I’ve read of hers in the past and I would say it’s more warm and fluffy. It wasn’t exactly what I was in the mood for but I know anyone who is will find it delightful

This was a hard one for me because I really enjoyed most of this story. I liked the overall plot and the setting. I liked how magic was utilized in the world and the supporting cast of characters is one of my favorites that I’ve read recently. They were quirky and the bond that they create with one another to make their own family was so enjoyable to read.

However, this book had one of my least favorite tropes and I don’t think I realized it was one of my least favorite tropes until this book. I have a really hard time when one character knows a major thing about the other before they meet, or knows that they have met before and the other doesn’t remember. Eli knows that he and Iris have met before and he has been keeping tabs on her via social media throughout the years and she has absolutely no idea. His behavior is almost stalkerish, and at one point even says that he wouldn’t like it if their situations were reversed. This dynamic creates too much of a power imbalance for me to properly enjoy the romance aspect of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Ann Aguirre for the e-arc of The Only Purple House in Town in exchange for an honest review.

I want to thank Netgalley for gifting me the ebook and audio version. I ended up listening to the audio version.

This was a cute fantasy scifi rom com. It was a very cozy read and I enjoyed it a lot. The cover is really pretty. The main love characters are cute and I enjoyed their stories and back stories. This would be a perfect read for Halloween if you want more of a light hearted read.

This book was different from what I usually read. It was definetly a lighter fantasy romance with some fun witchy vibes. Overall, it was an enjoyable read. I would recommend it for a fun fall book.

In her family, Iris Collins is the messiest. referred to as the "chaos bunny." She is unable to balance her budget for even one month while all of her sisters are extremely successful. It makes sense that she owes her housemates money. Her plan to convert the house she unexpectedly receives from her great aunt into a B&B fails, as do most of her plans. She eventually resorts to renting out apartments like a Victorian spinster and begins to gather other lost souls, not all of whom are "human." Eli Reese was the geeky outcast in school growing up, yet he became wealthy creating apps. He is now prosperous by any measure. However, he has never had the same success in discovering a true community or individuals who can relate to him. He hasn't forgotten his first love over the years, so when he sees her in a café, he interprets it as a sign. But after that, he somehow manages to book one of her B&B rooms after getting trapped into the Iris-verse. As the days go by, Eli becomes more and more mesmerised by the oddball boarders living there—and even more so by Iris. Has Eli possibly at last found someone and a place to call "home"?

The Only Purple House in Town's characters are vividly portrayed, and their idiosyncrasies and shortcomings only serve to make them more likeable. The supernatural aspects of the novel give an additional dimension of enchantment to Aguirre's whimsical and endearing language. The Only Purple House in Town is an enjoyable read that will make you feel cosy on the inside. It's a tale about love, acceptance, and finding one's place in the world, and it will probably strike a chord with anyone who has ever felt different or out of place. This magical rom-com is something I heartily recommend.

Thank you @netgalley for this ARC.

Summary:
The overall story was so cute and fun. I am a big fan of the found family trope, so I loved how all of the housemates fit into a family structure and each of them had their role. I felt like Iris was such an interesting character and I absolutely loved seeing her become more herself when she moved to the purple house. I also loved seeing her annoying neighbor not get what she wanted.

Characters:
I loved Iris so much. She was so generous and full of love. It was sad, in a way, to see that she had not previously been able to share too much of that love previously. I liked that she was able to find herself and be surrounded by people that loved her for her.
Eli was a bit more confusing for me. On one hand I thought he was creepy for keeping tabs on Iris, but on the other hand I understand that he wanted to see a person that treated him well succeed in life and then he just got caught up in the moment. I definitely think that he should have told her way sooner than he did.

A fun and easy romance perfect for fall reading! Lots of quirky characters make up the residents of Violet Gables, including not so human members of the found family. An awkward romance and a happy ending complete this heartwarming story.

I'm sorry to say that this book did not work for me.

Things I did like: I like the found family trope and appreciate the attempt at "diversity" and queerness even if it felt a bit surface level.

But ultimately I found this book quite boring, transparently earnest and deeply unsubtle. So much telling rather than showing and such weirdly mundane details about EVERYTHING.

This was cute, but it definitely felt like the climax/ending was a bit rushed and "fairytale". Not to say that it wasn't a good book! I think I just wished for more. 3.5/5

A really fun read that I could not put down. The characters were relatable, mostly ;) and the story kept me gripped

When Iris inherits an house from her great aunt, it's the perfect opportunity to figure out her life separate from her disapproving family. The aging house however, will require a lot of work to make it livable, so Iris opens her doors to building a new found family, including handsome Eli who knows more about Iris than he is letting on.

The Only Purple House is Town is set in the same universe as the Fix-it Witches series, so look for familiar characters and enjoy a new stroll through this small magical town. As always, get ready for humor, magic and finding love and family in unexpected places in this new novel by Ann Aguirre.

Amazing characters, a sweet story, cozy setting. It had everything I wanted.

I didn't realize this was a part of a series when I picked it up and I didn't have an issue with reading it. I can tell by other reviews this is either a book you love or hate it and I loved it. If you are in the mood for something fun and sweet with a small side of magic, this is what you are looking for. If you aren’t, then move on, this isn’t the book for you today.

Our FMC, Iris, is in a messy spot in life when she finds out about a house she inherited from her aunt. She decides to move to the town, clean up the house, and take on roommates to help keep her creditors at bay. This results in the various personalities of all the roommates she has assembled. She feels an obligation to take people in that need a "home" the most. The found family is all different ages and backgrounds who live comfortably with one another and work together to improve the house. There is some chaos with that many under one roof, but it just makes it livelier. The romance is closed door, but it is sweet and tender. They of course have some up and downs, and we watch them grow up a little as they navigate through those.

I would just call this a good mood book. If you need to be uplifted or just want a light, happy read, this will fit that mood perfectly.

Thank you to Ann Aguirre, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and NetGalley for a digital copy of The Only Purple House in Town.

Thank you, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Disclaimers:
1. I typically enjoy many books by Sourcebooks' authors.
2. I didn't realize this was book four in a series and have never read from this author before
3. I DNFed, and did not skim the ending but read a good chunk of the book.

First off, I hate the male MC. I need to emphasize that, unfortunately, as it was a big hindrance for my enjoyment of this novel. The third person POV with the italicized first-person thoughts {didn't like that writing style} only fueled the level of creepiness this male resonated. You're repeatedly thinking you're possibly stalking someone, you likely ARE stalking her. The monthly designated time slots of watching her socials is one of the weirdest and biggest red flags I've ever read. I've read really dark romances, but this is supposed to be a witchy romcom and I can't look past the romanticized stalking. That's not an appealing quirk for a male MC to have. Because of his actions, I also believe this closed proximity romance/chemistry was more forced than genuine.

Overall, I had to DNF as I could never foresee myself rooting for this couple.

I could not get into this book. I DNF’ed it at 20%. Although the premise had me intrigued, there was nothing that kept me interested once I started. I have heard of this author, and have been encouraged to read their books, but I fear this may hinder me from picking up any other ones. But with that being said, it wasn’t good to ME only. No one or anything else influenced this opinion and I hope the other fans of this author enjoy the books to come.

The Only Purple House in Town by Ann Aguirre is a magical, cozy read. Iris was a typical burnt out character with no direction in her life, but the second she inherits a crumbly, purple mansion her life starts to get interesting. I thought the magical elements of the story were interesting and I liked the mix of magic with a modern setting. The unique and funny characters really gave this story all of it's charm and appeal. Each of the new roommates had cool backstories and quirky personalities that fit in well with Iris and her found family. I did think Eli was a bit creepy with his cyberstalking Iris and keeping secrets but I was happy with how they hashed things out. Rowan and Henry Dale were my favorite characters! I loved that they go along so well and that Henry Dale took Rowan under his wing. All of the magical systems and creatures (fae, witches, vampires, and more) were fun to read about and gave the book a Charmed feel. Overall I'd say this book is a good cozy fantasy romance if you're looking for a quick read with a lot of personality.
