In summary, "Unfortunately Yours" is a captivating and satisfying romance novel that will leave readers wanting more. With its engaging plot, well-developed characters, scorching chemistry, and skillful combination of tropes, Tessa Bailey once again proves her prowess in crafting compelling love stories. Whether you're a fan of her previous works or new to her writing, this book is a must-read for any romance enthusiast.
This is my new favorite Tessa Bailey book! This even beat It Happened One Summer, and that was top tier literature for me. This was everything I could have asked for in a contemporary romance/rom-com.
I absolutely adore enemies to lovers. The tension was palpable and done SO well. The banter between the characters was just hilarious and perfectly placed. I also adored the fake marriage trope, and really enjoyed the journey of finding out how that works for the two of them. I was hooked from page 1 to the end of the epilogue. Tessa has such a relatable and funny style of writing that just wraps you up in a big hug and carries you through the entire story.
This is an easy 5 star and one I would recommend to anyone looking for something witty but endearing. This book was so fun, I’ll be purchasing for my bookshelf when it comes out!
Thank you so much Tessa Bailey & Avon Books for the ARC!
This book was such a delight to read!! I always am down for a good enemies-to-lovers trope and this one mixed with the marriage of convenience was well done! Tessa Bailey never disappoints when it comes to writing characters with heart and depth. Also the spice was PHENOMENAL, one of my favorites from this year hands down!
Funny, spicy, and pulls right at your heart strings. August Cates is a former Seal but also the ultimate golden retriever cinnamon roll. How Tessa Bailey pulled that off is a complete work of art. This one was called by her publisher “the spiciest book of summer.” I can see that and it was written so beautifully and I couldn’t put it down.
Unfortunately Yours review
Rating: Loved
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Rom-Com
Troupes: enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience
Thank you to @avonbooks for the #gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. This publishes on 6/6/23! This will for sure be one of the hot rom-coms this summer!
Set in a vineyard in Napa, I’d recommend pouring yourself a glass of wine and settle in to finish this in a sitting - it was hard to put down! Next to It Happened One Summer (probably impossible to top), this is my favorite from Tessa Bailey. The banter between Natalie and August was impeccable, fun to read, and not over the top. That, along with plenty of tension and steam, made this such an enjoyable and satisfying read.. While some laugh out loud moments, this book also had plenty of serious moments, while August deals with the grief of losing his best friend.
I hadn’t realized that Hallie and Julian, Natalie’s brother, already had their own story, so I added that to my library holds list immediately. Readers get a little bit of a glimpse into an update of their relationship, and Hallie sounds like a hoot!
4 stars out of 5!
I really enjoyed this book more than Secretly Yours. I liked the plot of this book and I really loved August. It took me a bit to really like Natalie but I was so happy with the end of the book. The epilogue was the best part! The chemistry between August and Natalie was undeniable.
Unfortunately Yours centers around marriage for convenience. Natalie and August start off on the wrong foot but quickly realize that they could both use each other to get something they desperately want. Natalie needs her trust fund to start up her new business in New York but she has to be married and employed due to the terms her father set for the trust. August's winery is failing and he needs a bank loan but was turned down at first. Since Natalie's family is a big name in the wine business, she could help him get approved for that loan. This leads both of them to agree to get married. They both went into the marriage with it being temporary but there is a strong connection between the two. You will love exploring that connection in this book!
Overall this was another great book. by Tessa Bailey! I'm excited to read more from her in the future.
Thanks NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
3.5⭐️s! I'm rounding up because I adored that Epilogue 🥲
- Marriage of convenience
- Forced proximity
- Set in Napa/St. Helena
- Tessa Bailey signature steam and banter
There's just something about Tessa Bailey books that make them so addicting to read. Even though they're hit or miss for me, I still look forward to reading them all.
This is the second book in the A Vine Mess series. Although this series isn't my favorite (still chasing the Bellinger Sisters high) I still enjoyed this book! I found it to be very entertaining, and I read through it pretty quickly. Like I said, there's just something about TB's writing.
Thank you so much for the ARC!
Unfortunately Yours by Tessa Bailey. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Natalie and August have a love/hate relationship but can they survive their relationship? Continue reading to find out if hate wins or love wins. I'm not going to tell you, you will have to pre-order your copy today so you can read it yourself when it releases on June 6th.
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley.
I liked this one more than Secretly Yours but not as much as the Bellinger Sisters books. I loved August's character right away but it took me longer to warm up to Natalie. The epilogue was adorable and the cover is perfect!
Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I liked this but didn't love it. I think I may just be burnt out on Tessa Bailey if I'm being honest. I enjoyed the characters and the plot, but it felt like something was missing. The first book in this duo was well rounded and I didn't feel like I was missing something, but there just was a disconnect for me here. I did enjoy it but not as much as I wanted to.
I am straight up obsessed with these two. Natalie is all crunchy exterior while she's nursing past hurts. August is the gooiest inside his SEAL exterior. Together they have banter, button pushing, and chemistry for days, but also a line of open communication. Each gets and supports the other so wonderfully.
Plot wise, it was exactly what I wanted. The angsty part was no where near what I was expecting and the last few chapters were so perfect, I read each one about 3 times before I could continue. And don't get me started on the epilogue...
Overall, this is probably one of my top Tessa books ever and definitely making the top 10 of 2023 list. I already can't wait to read it again.
I’m not sure if there is a more combustible couple than Natalie and August! They are the sizzling, funny, heart-eyes couple in this book that is centered around a marriage of convenience. I loved their interactions—their fights, their flirting, their silliness—all of it was passionate and made my heart zing! Never have two people who seem so opposite of each other, fit together so perfectly.
***Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books for sending me an advanced reader copy of Unfortunately Yours by Tessa Bailey! All thoughts are my own!***
Natalie Vos is daughter of wine royalty in Napa Valley. After losing her job and her fiancé, she returns home from New York to lick her wounds. She takes a couple months to recoup after drowning her sorrow in cabernet and ready to tackle a new business venture. In order to do that, she needs her trust fund, which she can't have until she is married. Natalie is desperate enough to propose to the man she hates in order to get access to her trust fund, enter August Cates (who we meet in Secretly Yours) from the Wine Down Festival and they get off to a more than rocky start (meaning she ends up throwing a glass of wine in his face.) And the last thing she wants to do is ask the man she despises to marry her.
August has his own vineyard, but has no idea how to make wine. But he will do everything in his power to make his late friend's dream a reality. No bank will give him the loan to turn his business around, until Natalie propositions him to marry in order for them to get the money they both need for their separate endeavors. But they both don't realize living under the same roof and playing married can start to feel real.
Natalie and August make the best couple in this book. I love enemies to lovers and marriages of convenience, but this was on a whole other level of love for me.
Still pinching myself that I got an advanced copy of one of my most anticipated reads for this year by my favorite romance author! Ok needless to say, this is probably my favorite book Tessa Bailey has written so far and that's saying a lot since I started reading her books back in 2019. This book just hooked me in more than some of her other books. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love her writing but these two characters in this setting and everything they both have at stake just kept me sinked in. I haven't had a romance book I haven't wanted to put down in quite a while and this one cured that for me. And naturally, any book that Tessa writes is gonna be a 10/10 spice-wise.
This book has times where it got emotionally heavy, but for me that just made it all the better. I love a romance book that is more than just the romance. August with his Navy background, Natalie with her issues both with her family and her finance ventures, it made these character feel so real.
I highly recommend reading Secretly Yours before reading Unfortunately Yours, since they are both amazing books and you get the broader picture between the two.
Unfortunately Yours is on sale June 6th!
I am a Tessa Bailey die hard so I was really excited to read this book! There were moments that made me really connect with the romance and feel the chemistry between Natalie and August, but unfortunately overall I did not find this couple as convincing as some of the ones from her other series. I do love how she handles emotionally sensitive topics and I would still definitely recommend this book! I am excited to see what she puts out next!
In Unfortunately Yours expect to find:
-forced proximity
-small town romance
-marriage of convenience
-"my wife" moments
-complicated family dynamics
-🔥🔥
Natalie Vos has returned to Napa after losing her job and fiancée. She's a smart and successful business woman, but it seems like no one - including her family - wants to hear her ideas or her input. Natalie is enjoying her time in Napa, but longs for the hustle and bustle of New York. She can't make it back unless she has enough income to back up her ideas. The only way to access money and access it quickly is through her trust fund and the only way to access that is to get married.
Ex-marine August Cates is determined to make his vineyard a success. He just doesn't know exactly how to do this since the wine tastes like crap and no one will drink it. August has put in all of his money into his vineyard and doesn't have anything left. When sexy Natalie makes August an offer he can't refuse he doesn't know what he's gotten himself into. If Natalie and August enter a marriage of convenience solely for the purposes of getting money (Natalie's trust & a loan for August) - they both get what they want. But what they don't anticipate is their hearts getting in the way. Will their farce of a marriage turn into something more like an actual marriage? And the bigger question - where does that leave them if Natalie is still wanting to go to NY and August planning to stick with his winery in Napa?
I liked the previous book in the series - Secretly Yours, but Unfortunately Yours was so much better! August and Natalie had the best banter and so much tension between them. I constantly had a grin on my face reading scenes between these two.
I loved how independent Natalie was. She didn't take shit from anyone and yet at the same time she had so many vulnerabilities. On the flip side, I loved what a goof ball August was. Yes, he was this manly man ex-marine, but he was also so cute and protective of Natalie. The way these two had each others back made me love them even more.
If you're looking for a spicy rom-com that will make you laugh and swoon - add Unfortunately Yours to your tbr!
Tessa Bailey’s books are so fun and I was excited to get approved for this. I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the first one in the series but it was still very enjoyable and I’m definitely still excited for Tessa’s next book.
I loved Natalie & August's banter and again the chemistry was awesome. I also loved the fake marriage trope in this, I've learned I'm a sucker for that trope. But I did feel like the pacing was a little too fast, I would have loved some more time diving into Natalie and August's individual issues to give them a little more depth
Natalie has hit rock bottom, she has no job, her fiancee broke up with her, her finances are in ruins and she is living at home with her mother licking her wounds in a vat of wine. The only way to get herself back is to get access to her trust fund, which has a stimulation she needs to be married to get the money. August is a retired SEAL who owns a local vineyard in honor of one of his late best friends. The only problem, is he can't make good wine and is running out of funds. He needs a business loan to save his friends legacy. Since the moment they met Natalie and August have sizzling chemistry which immediately morphed into simmering insults. They can't stand each other, but together they join a marriage of convenience in hopes of securing funds they both need to move on in their lives. A sham wedding, a few weeks living under the same roof, and then they can go their separate ways—assuming they make it out alive. How hard could it be? There’s just one thing they didn’t account for: their unfortunate, unbearable, undeniable attraction.
I hate to admit it but the last book in this series didn't do it for me, and thankfully this book TOTALLY redeemed the series. The chemistry was palpable, the comedy was perfect and the story was cute. This book just made me feel so happy! August is a swoon worthy crusty cinnamon roll hero. Natalie is this wonderfully strong and complex character. they've both lost their way a little bit, but find their way back with each other. This is the perfect rom-com to add to your summer reading list.
Thanks to the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review. This book releases 6/6

I thinks I loved this book more than Secretly Yours.
You can read this one as a standalone. If you read SY, you already know who Natalie and August.
I love a man that’s obsessed with his woman, and August was whenever he wasn’t arguing with Natalie.i loved her clap backs.
There are some emotional parts for these two.
I loved how they always defended each other to those who criticized.
Gah, this book really hit all the right notes for me as a reader.
Tessa Bailey is the Queen of rom/com, dirty talking alpha males, with a big he’s, and strong heroines that are wilting flowers.
Thank you Harper Collins for the ARC.
It’s no surprise to me because I love Tessa Bailey, but I really enjoyed this. The weird love/hate relationship they had I think was done really well. I also like that they built up to the fake wedding rather than having it be the first thing that happens in the book. I do have to say that it did start off a bit slowly at first compared to some of TB’s other books but that changed for me pretty quickly.
TB is definitely an author that I look to when I want something not that serious and am looking for something fluffy to read and this book definitely fit in that spot. I think out of the two books in the a Vine Mess series this one would be my favorite because I think enjoyed Natalie more as a heroine but that’s more personal preference.
If you like Tessa Bailey or the previous book, Secretly Yours, this is something to look forward to.
