Possible secret family and love child? I jumped at the opportunity to early read this book. Wiesner always sets up a gnarled and curvy plot, certain to keep readers on their toes.
Emma was in a no win situation. Noah, her estranged husband, is in a coma while the woman who was in his car, is dead, but left a toddler.
The book is mostly about Emma researching her husband’s past with flashbacks to their history together.
I knew from his lack of sharing his history with Emma, Noah was hiding stuff.
Some of the answers hit me halfway through and I was partially right.
Will Noah turn out to be the big jerk readers might think he is? Read and decide for yourself.
Emma’s day is interrupted when she hears a knock at the door. It’s the police informing her that her husband, Noah, has been in a serious car accident and is now in a coma. However, Noah wasn’t the only one found in the car. He was accompanied by a woman and a young child that Emma doesn’t know or recognize. Is Noah living a secret life that Emma doesn’t know about?
This was an easy book to fly through! I felt myself eager to turn the page with each added twist and turn. I was filled with suspense the entire read and caught myself trying to put the pieces together as things began to unfold.
The authors writing is beautiful and really set a tone. The characters were very like-able, and I felt myself feeling a lot of emotion towards them! I would highly recommend this book to those looking for a suspenseful, page turning read.

Straight away my heart strings were tugged so hard in many different directions in His Secret Daughter! Melissa did such an amazing job having her readers feel so much empathy for what the characters were going through. My heart just broke for Emma!!
Oh there were so many shocking secrets hidden away just made for the revelations all that more shocking!
The one character that stole my heart was sweet little Luna!
If you like a story that will keep you on your toes, like a little mystery, and a over all feel good vibe then you need to checkout Melissa Wiesner’s His Secret Daughter.
When the police knock on Emma's door, she is unprepared for what she is about to hear. Her husband, Noah, has been in a car accident and is in a coma. The woman who was with him has passed away. But what should be done with the little three-year-old girl, Luna, who survived the accident? Emma is speechless, because she has no idea who the woman is, and her only child with Noah is a teenager, Maya. Is Noah the father of this little girl? Thus begins Emma's journey as she unlocks her husband's past and finds out the secrets he's been keeping.
I enjoyed this story of a man's secret past and how it affects his family. The author does a good job of portraying Emma's emotions as she peels back layer after layer of the life of her husband, who she thought she had known. Flashes back to the past show us how Emma and Noah meet, fell in love, and marry. Emma's struggles as a parent during this tragedy are portrayed in a realistic way. This is a well-crafted story with unexpected pieces that fall perfectly into place. It is at times a heartbreaking read. Fans of women's fiction and "hidden past" stories will enjoy this book.
I received a free copy of this book from Bookouture via Netgalley. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.
I binged this book in less than three hours. It is full of emotions of confusion, longing for the truth, following your heart, and doing what is right. I loved Melissa’s writing style and the way the book got immediately into the story. There was not a lot of fluff in this and that I like! The ending of this book is bittersweet. I definitely recommend this novel to fans of contemporary reads with a slight twist. Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this read!
His secret daughter by Melissa wiesner
Thank you NetGalley and thank you to the publisher bookouture for the opportunity to read this one early. This book grabbed me from the first page. Who doesn’t love a good family drama, ha unless it’s your own of course.
Emma is married to Noah and they share a 16 year old daughter Maya. Unfortunately there has been trouble in paradise for the couple, Noah has been traveling a lot of work and not willing to scale back at all this causing a rift between Noah and Emma so she asks him to move out. But that isn’t where their troubles began, there is a much more pressing matter at hand who was the little girl in the car with her husband and a unknown woman when she received a visit from local law enforcement to say there was a auto accident. No one knows and Noah is in a coma this can not answer that question or any of Emma’s questions.
Definitely kept me interested, quickly turning the page after page, pulls at your heart strings. Can you find it in your heart to love another woman’s child? Not sure I could. This book also had some twists and turns so you think you have it figured out then boom a bombshell dropped. Great first book of Melissa Weisner s and definitely won’t be the last.
His Secret Daughter drew me in from the first page to the last page. I pretty much read non-stop because I had to know where the story was going.
A family drama with a very unusual twist and many, many secrets.
Main characters are engaging and likeable.
I have to say I went through many emotions reading this story…..
I did like the epilogue….for me it wrapped everything up quite nicely.
I am not one to share too much and give anything away. Just know I cannot recommend this book enough. You need to put it on your wish list.
With that said, this is my first book by Melissa Wiesner and it won’t be my last. I loved her writing style. She made me feel like I was right there with the characters.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and author, Melissa Wiesner, for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book hooked me right from the start and held me right until the end, it is such an engaging read. It is well written with a compelling toryline and well developed characters. I loved the dual timeline aspect through flashbacks to the past and the twists kept me guessing all the way through. I really liked it
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘His Secret Daughter’ by Melissa Weisner in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
When the police call at her house Emma Havern is told that her husband Noah has been involved in a road traffic accident and is in hospital in a deep coma but she’s shocked when she learns that in the car with him was a woman Coral Butler who hasn’t survived and her two-year-old daughter Luna who’s well apart from a few scratches. After visiting Noah, Emma goes into the room where Luna is sleeping and is amazed at how alike she and Noah are. As Noah has been keeping secrets from her Emma decides to find out more about his family history.
‘His Secret Daughter’ is an emotional story of a family, Noah, Emma and their daughter Maya, who suddenly have to deal with Noah being unconscious in hospital and the lies that he can’t explain. The story is so engaging I’ve been unable to stop reading and the characters are so sensitively described that I’ve felt an empathy with them as they struggle to come to terms with the situation they’ve found themselves in. It’s a beautifully written story with a twist at the end that pulls at the heartstrings and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
If you want a page turner, this is the book you need to read next!
From the very beginning this book draws you in, a husband in a coma, he was in the car with another woman and a child, he was traveling for work so often- could he of been having an affair? Flashbacks to 20 years ago, his story seems off about his parents dying in a fire- is he telling the truth? As the story continues you become close with the characters, feel for them, empathize with them. Then all the secrets start to get revealed. Things you couldn't even imagine were the truth. The ending had me feeling all sorts of feelings, sad, relieved, excited, mad.
I will definitely need to check out more of Melissa's books!
A knock on the door and the police inform Emma that her husband Noah has been in an accident. She arrives at the hospital to find him in a coma, with a big question whether he will come out of it or even survive. Then the shocking revelation that a woman that was with him died, and a small child survived. Emma has no idea who his passengers are.
As Emma sits by his bedside, she discovers that huge pieces of this puzzle are missing and she really knew nothing about her husbands life before she met him, and during their marriage. Everything has he told her was a lie. She sets about finding the answers to the questions herself, there is no one that has them.
This was a well written mystery novel with interesting characters, a twisted plot and a real page turner. A new author for me, I enjoyed her writing very much. I did predict the ending about half way through, but that was OK, it didn’t spoil the why or where’s of the plot.
My thanks to Melissa Wiesner, NetGalleyand Bookouture for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
His Secret Daughter by Melissa Wiesner An intense domestic drama that is fast paced and gripping. Even with all the secrets, lies, and fears from the past that come to light, Emma, Noah, Maya and Luna's story is heartwarming and filled with hope and love. An unexpected but emotionally satisfying ending.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book
3.75⭐️ rounded up to 4.
The police show up at Emma’s house to inform her that her husband has been in a car accident and is in a coma. He was driving with a woman and child that Emma has never met. When she meets the child, she discovers the uncanny resemblance to her husband. She is determined to discover everything that her husband has been lying to her about.
This was a really quick read and kept me really engaged. Emma was a fantastic main character, I felt really attached to her and could feel her pain throughout the whole story. It was well written with short chapters and was quite emotional at times!
I found the story to be quite predictable. Although there were some twists, I figured them out quite early. I also thought the ending was quite sudden.
It was a nice story, it just didn’t wow me!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a roller coaster of emotions this book brought me! Definitely a book that I will read again. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be looking for her previous books. I could not put this book down and the characters were so real and were so easy to relate to. Very well written and totally engrossing. Loved it! Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Melissa Wiesner for the opportunity to read this ARC. Cant wait to see more books from this author. Definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Melissa Wiesner is an author who writes credible characters with heart and all the human frailties. We have a wonderful and loving couple who experience an awful tragedy. Out comes all the lies and dark themes hiding now out in the open. A heart wrenching tale of what makes a family.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
What Would You Do? Weisner does a tremendous job here of making a realistic, grounded mystery from a tragic yet all too real setup. Everything else flows fairly naturally here, and all of the character motivations are again all too real. (Particularly as someone who has experienced some version of some of the things that would be a spoiler to reveal, even these sections are, sadly, all too common.) And yes, the ending, while not something everyone will *want* to happen... is again, very, very realistic given the story to that point. Ultimately this really is one of the most realistic domestic mystery/ suspense books I've ever encountered - and I don't know if that is an indictment on the genre or a praise of Weisner. :D Truly a great read, and very much recommended.
This story is going to keep you reading until the very end. Emma suspected her husband was cheating, and the day came, when he was in a car accident. She learns many things about her husband that she didn't know, but she made the choice to get the answers. She went looking for the answers, and she learned so much more.
Her teenage daughter has to go through it too, and we see what happens, and all the things that they go through.
Their lives have many decisions they need to make decisions about. When Emma gets all the answers, they are prepared for what they must deal with now, and know what is right for them.
I received an ARC from Bookouture through NetGalley. I have learned that a book from Bookouture is intense and captures my attention, and takes me on a journey I never saw coming.
This well written book pulled me in at the first chapter. After Emma’s husband is injured in a car accident she sets out to find the reason he has been traveling so much for his job (or so he says) and about his life he hasn’t told her about. The author is able to make you feel you are right there with the characters and feeling the emotions they feel. This is my first book by this author, and I will likely be looking for more to read. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
Set aside time to binge-read! You won’t be able to settle to do anything until you find out the truth behind Emma and Noah Havern’s relationship.
I'm so glad I’ve discovered this author as I’m always able to connect with her stories and am assured of a journey filled with emotions as I become invested in the lives of her masterfully crafted characters.
This is the fourth book of Weisner’s I’ve read and I’ve noted each time how capably she’s able to convey the mood of a story. It’s like I’ve been kidnapped and dropped into the scene; I feel like I’m experiencing the story alongside the characters. I don’t have children, but Weisner was able to put me in Emma’s shoes so that I could feel her desperation and anxiety over wondering how much of her marriage was a lie. I couldn’t go to bed without finding out the truth!
There’s no doubt the author’s career in film school and counselling added to the success of this book. Weisner continues to slowly peel back the layers of her characters, all their troubled pasts, fears and insecurities and shows us the real people beneath. A story is so much more enjoyable when I can empathize with the characters.
I love the approach Weisner brings to storytelling. She writes heartbreaking stories yet focuses on the resilience of people overcoming adversity. Her characters always find themselves in tough situations, buried under a pile of secrets, but they find a way towards light and redemption. It’s amazing how she can write a story that’s so emotionally compelling yet still remains uplifting! Her message about the healing power of love and family will make this a read you’ll remember for quite some time.
Reading this intense, family drama is definitely an experience that will fill you with anticipation, fear, hope, love, and heartache. It’s one of Weisner’s best and it needs to be on your reading list.
I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
