UrbanMyth: the completely anonymous online discussion board. Manhattan’s exclusive East Siders use it to exchange gossip, divulge secrets and vent about their problems. All of these people are also parents who go through extreme lengths to get their children into the most prestigious schools. So when a hacker breaks into the “anonymous” forums exposing everyone for who they really are, it’s safe to say there will be repercussions. Norah, who is struggling to balance work and motherhood, certainly has a lot to lose. Then there’s Heather, who is an outsider trying to get her daughter accepted into the social circle. Rounding out the trio is Poppy, who seemingly has it all together. They all have something to hide. But would one of them kill to protect their secrets?
What a fun and fast-paced thriller! I had no idea who to suspect out of these ladies, but I definitely thought each of them was capable of doing something awful to get what they wanted. One thing for sure: I wouldn’t want to get on any of their bad sides! Told in dual perspectives, we get to see what makes each of these women tick and learn about their families and the secrets they are hoping to keep hidden. The final twist surprised me and I love when that happens! Thanks to Bantam and Thrillerbookpromos for the ARC! “No One Needs to Know” releases May 9th!

This is the second book of Lindsay Cameron’s that I’ve read, and I liked it. It’s rich people behaving badly in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country. There are secrets being exposed on an anonymous online forum and some are so salacious they could ruin an entire family’s livelihood. No one seems concerned about the consequences until hackers strike and expose it all.
Overall, this is a fun, low-stakes mystery that kept me guessing and entertained.
No One Needs to Know is my second book by this author and while I did like it, there was nothing in it that brought it up to the love range. It is a solid 3 star book in my opinion, These were very wealthy, un-relatable and unlikeable characters and everything to me seemed pretty darn unrealistic. We've got kids attending an elite private school and their mothers willing to do pretty much anything to get them placement at elite/top high schools and colleges. Mix that in with an anonymous forum that gets hacked and you've got a domestic/neighborhood thriller on your hands. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the advance e-copy. No One Needs to Know will be available on 5/9.
Parenting on the Upper East Side is not for the faint of heart. "No One Needs to Know" follows several parents of differing levels of wealth all trying to get their children into a prestigious boarding school.
When the popular site "Urban Myth", a cross between Facebook parenting groups and YikYak is hacked and all their secrets are laid bare, everything is out in the open and secrets people thought were safe are revealed. Affairs, blackmail, and more--there is no confession too salacious.
Cameron leads the reader on a fun trail as we try to uncover who did what (and why). It's a revealing peek into how the 1% lives, and fans of Liane Moriarty will enjoy this book. The story has twists and turns, and as someone who has spent their fair amount of time on parent forums, is extremely believable. None of the characters are likeable, exactly, but I was still very compelled by them and really enjoyed the book.
Nothing stays a secret once it's shared on the internet- a lesson those who have vented on UrbanMyth are about to learn. Norah, Heather, and Poppy all shared their secrets but now someone is releasing the info and someone is dead. Who did it? Why? This centers around the admissions process for a private school and the very privileged residents of the Upper East Side, making it a gossipy, albeit familiar take on moms behaving badly. It is, however, a page turner. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
yes, yes, and yes
this book delivers
I wish I had known what I was getting into but then again, it was incredibly fabulous to be surprised at every corner.
I had to wish for this book and when the book fairies shined down upon me, my little black heart melted.
No One Needs To Know
Holy Heck, someone give Lindsay Cameron the golden book award. This book was fan-freaking-tastic. The twists, the turns, the character development, ALL OF IT.
This is an "all the stars" kind of book and if you think differently, you clearly don't know how to read
Teaser:
It was all confidential. Right up to the moment when it wasn’t.
UrbanMyth: It was lauded as an alternative to the performative, show-your-best-self platforms—an anonymous discussion board grouped by zip code. The residents of Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side disclosed it all, things they would never share with their friends or their spouses: secret bank accounts, steamy affairs, tidbits of juicy gossip. The same people who, as parents, go to astonishing lengths to ensure that their children gain admission to the most prestigious boarding schools and universities. So when a “hacktivist” group breaks into the forum and exposes the real identity of each poster, the repercussions echo down Park Avenue with a force that none could have anticipated.
And someone ends up dead.
Is the murderer Heather, the outsider who would do anything to get her daughter into the elite’s good graces and into their even better schools? Norah, the high-powered executive failing to balance work with the emotional responsibilities of motherhood? Or Poppy, whose perfect-on-the-outside façade conceals more than her share of secrets?
Each of them has something to hide.
Each of them will do anything to keep secrets hidden.
And each of them just might kill to protect their own.
The UrbanMyth forum keep secrets anonymous. But that happens when the secrets start coming out?
This was an interesting thriller. It has a Big Little Lies feel to it. You follow three families whose kids go to a private school in NYC. Each mother (and the rest of the family) have secrets that slowly come out. I liked the characters and some of the secrets I didn’t guess. BUT this did get a bit slow at times and there was a lot of info that was not necessary. I also didn’t care about a few of the characters. They weren’t horrible but I didn’t invest enough in them.
All in all, a good read for someone who likes this type of book.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the ARC!
Unfortunately this was a dnf book for me. I tried reading it and it truly did not hold my interest. It was very slow going so about halfway through, I stopped reading. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
This book is like Desperate Housewives of Upper East Side NY. I really enjoyed this story. Lies, secrets, money, status, and drama. I recommend it to anyone that’s looking for a quick, entertaining read. Perfect to devour on a plane or by the pool.
Thank you NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group and the author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bantam publisher for the E-Arc of this book.
Rich people drama on the Upper East Side. It reminds me of an adult version of Gossip Girl. I would consider this more of a mystery than a thriller. The story follows the perspective of three POVs. Hannah, Norah and Poppy are all unlikeable characters. There just were not enough twists for my liking. Still a good story, 3 stars.
I loved this author’s previous book, JUST ONE LOOK, so I was thrilled to receive a copy of NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW to read and review.
UrbanMyth, an anonymous discussion board cast catering to New York’s Upper East side, is where all the rich residents to go spill their secrets, from affairs, blackmail, secret bank accounts, and anything else they would never share with their friends.
We meet three women, Heather, Poppy and Nora, each of whom has their own secrets and a lot to lose if the secrets they have shared to the site are made public. The site gets hacked, and everyone’s secrets are exposed.
As I have said a million times, I love, love, love books centered around rich people behaving badly. The characters in this book will do literally anything to get what they want, and some of their actions made me gasp out loud. None of the characters are likeable, and I wanted to grab some popcorn and a glass of wine when reading about their worlds crashing down after being exposed. It was so entertaining! I found the ending very satisfying, and I wasn't able to predict it at all.
I found this book hard to put down and I believe Fans of Big Little Lies and Desperate Housewives will love this juicy domestic drama!
I cannot wait to see what this author comes up with next! 🎉
The description I kept seeing was Big Little Lies x Gossip Girl. No One Needs to Know definitely combines elements from both plus a little bit of college admissions scandal. It’s a twisty read about rich people behaving badly, mostly for the sake of their 8th graders being admitted to an elite boarding school. An anonymous online neighborhood forum is hacked, threatening to expose all the dirty secrets.
Overall, I enjoyed the story! It’s broken into the perspectives of a few women, and it was interesting to see how their stories intersected. The chapters move quickly, and kept me guessing til the big plot reveal.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC.
No One Needs to Know by Lindsay Cameron
Someone is dead and someone did it. That's what we know at the beginning of the book. And then we go back and watch the events that led up to this death. There are so many potential murderers and so many that would want someone dead.
We'll be right in the business of three women and their friends and family. These women have so much to lose, want so much that their wealth may not be able to buy. Their children must get into the best of boarding schools and nothing can stop that happening.
UrbanMyth is where the people of Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side can let it all out. Say anything, confess all, lie, manipulate, make it up or tell it like it is, because no one will know who said what, it is all anonymous. And Heather, Norma, and Poppy use UrbanMyth to relieve stress, confess what they can never tell anyone, and shape the thoughts and beliefs of others. The fun is trying to figure what what dark and dirty secrets belong to which neighbor.
And then UrbanMyth is hacked and it's all out there for everyone to see. Not just the secrets but the names that goes with the secrets. Secrets that are secrets no more. There is no taking it back, all are exposed and the results are deadly.
I couldn't help getting caught up in the mess of these women. Having it all isn't all it's cut out to be when it the costs can eat you up alive. Each woman has done the worst and now everyone knows. It's fun being on the outside looking in but I would not want to be in the bazillion dollar shoes of any of these mothers.
Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Bantam and NetGalley for this ARC.
This story brings up the question exactly how far will you go to get your child into the best prep school, the best college? The mothers on the Upper East Side in New York City know no boundaries.
Alternating chapters between Heather, Norah and Queen Bee Poppy we learn about all their dirty secrets and what they posted on Urban Myth. I have to say that I felt for Norah. She was the most innocent in the story, but she should have also listened to her gut. Things took a turn when someone from their group goes missing, and I did not put the pieces together until they were revealed. That was a nice little twist. Someone compared this to the show Gossip Girl, and I definitely see the resemblance.
When I put this one down I couldn’t wait to get back to it!
The author has created such an intriguing characters. When an anonymous neighbourhood forum gets hacked, the secrets begin to reveal themselves. It’s about the wealthiest neighbourhood and narrated from the perspectives of three moms with a different background. Everyone had different beliefs but a mystery brings them together. As secrets are spilling themselves from the forum. Will they be able to stop them?
There are two mysteries intertwined in the plot. And it will keep you guessing till the end but you will not find yourself even close to the mystery. The first one is related to Violet, Heather’s daughter, something unfortunate that happened the night of Doubles Dance at Crofton School and second the sudden disappearance of Bennett, Norah’s husband. Somehow the mystery of Bennett will also expose the secrets. Someone is behind all these but who could benefit by doing all these. I tried to guess and solve the mysteries but all my guesses were wrong. It’s twisted, secretive, and intriguing.
#NoOneNeedsToKnow:
“Their lives were messy. They had problems. And reading about theirs helped Heather ignore her own.”
Mixed media. We know I am a sucker. Basically, call me a vampire. Giving me these UrbanMyth Message Board reads was like catnip to my soul! I know we got a few, but oh I could have always done with much more. I really enjoyed the 3 POVs we had. (Technically 4, but I’m not spoiling that for you) I think it’s so interesting to see how different these women are, but they’re all just doing the best they can with what they have. I wish I could have seen the kids perspective because I’m sure they’d think their parents were cringe. (As most kids do)
Think adult Gossip Girl. Honestly, it’s the only way I can describe it. Lindsay Cameron has a really unique way of storytelling that really gets me interested. I binged this one so quickly because I really enjoy it. Thank you @thrillerbookpromos and @bantam for my gifted copy! No One Needs to Know is out 5/9!
I love reading about rich peoples drama and secrets and this was a really fun and fast read.
3 moms with different backgrounds from the Upper East Side collide when secrets come out on an anonymous chat thread. The scandals were definitely juicy af and I couldn’t wait to figure out how everything would end up. The last twist in the book I definitely did not see coming. 3.5 stars!
I went into this book completely blind, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
I enjoyed the plot, and liked how things unfolded as those that felt their secrets were hidden ended up being outed, and the result is a death. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending, but I would recommend this to others.
Rich people...they;re just like us, except they're really not.
I loved No One Needs to Know. It's so dishy and gossipy, and, when everyone wants him gone, the suspects in Bennett's disappearance are literally everyone. The multiple narrators really worked for giving an all-around perspective of life on the Upper East Side, the world of private academia, and the pressures of fitting into a not-at-all-forgiving society. The plot pacing makes No One Needs to Know a good one-sitting binge that will be perfect for beach bags everywhere this summer!
This book has an very intriguing synopsis and good bones- execution just lacked for me. This is a great choice for a quick “Housewives of NYC” thriller as a palette cleanser between books!
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this one!
