A fun quick rom-com! I loved the plot and the pacing of the book really kept me intrigued the whole time. Scotty and Amber's chemistry was off the charts and I was immediately rooting for them. Overall a great book!
Thank you Netgalley and Rich Amooi for the ARC!

I can’t stress how much I loved this romantic comedy. It had me hooked from the beginning and I devoured every word in a single sitting. Every part of this story is a 10/10. The entire premise is comical with the villain, the nerdy, the romance, the comedy, and everything in between keeping me hooked and dying to turn the page for the latest laugh out loud moment. Am absolute must read and I can’t wait to see what other gems this author has!

I received a free advanced copy review of this incredible novel and am offering my honest opinion voluntarily.

Amber has a crappy job at an ad agency. Her boss demoted her in favor of his girlfriend, so she has an awful time there. Then her great uncle put in his will that she inherits five million dollars if she marries Ryan Scott, her high school sweetheart whom she hasn’t seen or spoken to in over twenty years! She contacts him but he’s recently married, so she and her friend Stella head over to their local coffee house, that is owned by Scotty. What they don’t know is that Scotty is a nickname for Ryan Scott, and this Ryan Scott is secretly madly in love wit Amber for ages… What a coincidence?!

Sometimes the writer gets carried away with trying to put humor in the book. For example, Ryan’s friend Dean is convinced that Stella and Amber are planning a murder when he hears the words ‘five million dollars’ and ‘dead’. Anyway, what follows is Amber getting in contact with various Ryans, trying to find one who is suitable husband material. There is real estate Ryan, rhubarb Ryan, etc. This book is clearly meant as a comedy, because all Ryan’s are tossed in the mix, various ones declining and others agreeing to marry her, and maggoty Mercedes (her cousin) showing up to try to ruin every match. In the end it turned pretty ridiculous, even for a comedy, which is too bad. Okay, the plot is humorous but it could have been explored more.
I did like Stella; she can hold her own in any conversation you can come up with, no matter how ridiculous. Annoying boss interrogating her? She comes up with an excuse. A health freak asking what you favorite juice is? She rattles on about various vegetables. She was a fun character and always in total control.
If you are looking for a book that comes up with the most nicknames you can imagine and sci-fi coffee names for a bar called ‘Bean me up, Scotty’, this is the book for you.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a very light-hearted, clean romance. Amber’s beloved great-Uncle dies and leaves her a few million dollars provided she marries her high-school boyfriend in a few weeks. The bequest will allow her to quit her miserable job and start her own advertising business. If Amber fails to marry in time, her bequest will go to her evil cousin instead. Amber learns that her old boyfriend is married, but her best friend comes up with a loophole. Amber can still inherit the money if she marries someone with the same name as her old boyfriend. In exchange for marriage, the man would get a portion of the inheritance. With her friend’s help, Amber meets a few bachelors who have the same name while her cousin tries to sabotage her efforts. Meanwhile, her friendly coffee shop owner has been carrying a torch for Amber while waiting for his divorce decree to be finalized. There are many sweet, romantic and funny moments in this story, on the way to a satisfying HEA. I downgraded one star because it’s necessary to ignore some details like whether a bequest of this kind would actually be legal and the likelihood of some of the coincidences. Overall though, this book is a sweet, funny and enjoyable romance story. Recommended. I received an advance copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was my first Rich Amooi book and I can say from the start it won’t be the last!

He does a great job of setting up the backstory, plot lines are clear and concise, storyline makes sense all the way through, characters are well developed.

This was a cute Rom-Com style book, no real spice, and not real-life messy….but if that’s your style of book….HIS BOOKS ARE FOR YOU!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC, I enjoyed this author and appreciate that the opportunity introduced me to his work.

My wedding is in six weeks. The only thing missing is a groom. Uncle Garfunkel was a certified genius, but stating in his will that I need to marry my high school sweetheart to get my inheritance is the dumbest thing ever. Especially when I find out Ryan Scott already has a wife. Fortunately, the will doesn’t specify WHICH Ryan Scott to marry. So, what does a resourceful girl like me do in a pinch? I Google Ryan Scotts and start dating them, looking for the best one (least pathetic?) to wed. This crazy idea might blow up in my face. Or maybe I’ll get the surprise of my life.

This is my first book by this author, and it was a super quick read, taking a little more than an hour to finish. There were some rather funny moments along the way, and the characters were developed enough to keep the reader invested in them.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

I always look forward to a new book from Rich Amooi. I know just what to expect. And I mean this as a compliment. No, I’m not saying all his books are the same, as his storylines are quite varied. Though he does tend to take a well known trope and put his own unique spin on it. What I’m saying is that I know to expect a lighthearted romantic comedy with a healthy dose of heart and plenty off laughs. And The Backup Groom is just that. Right from the start, with Amber watching the video recording of her Uncle Garfunkel—where he laments not having a background soundtrack—laying out just what she must do to get her inheritance, I had a smile on my face. You see Uncle G wants Amber to marry Ryan Scott, her old boyfriend. There’s just a slight problem…he’s already married. What’s a girl to do? Find another Ryan Scott of course! Witty banter and humorous situations are a hallmark of Amooi’s books, and if you don’t laugh and have a smile on your face while reading this book you might want to see a doctor because there might be something wrong with your funny bone. Thanks to the author and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review an ARC of The Backup Groom.
