My first reaction is WOW! The story itself is very interesting. The resolution of the story is shocking. The story introduces you to 2 women - one who wakes up in the hospital in London after an auto accident and can't remember anything about her life, including who she is and anything about her husband or her life with him. The second one is about a woman from Bristol who is married with a baby and is now ready to go back to work when her husband's mother, who he hasn't had contact with for years, suddenly shows up. As you read most of the book, you wonder how in the world the author is going to connect these 2 seemingly unrelated women and stories. And then she hits you with it and you go WOW!

One aspect that truly stood out to me was Livvy's admirable ambition and determination to pursue both a fulfilling career and motherhood. She defied the stereotype of naive and passive women and showcased her strong views. The author skillfully portrayed how even someone seemingly blessed with a loving family, supportive friends, and an engaging job could justify questionable actions. It challenges our expectations of trust and truthfulness, essential for navigating the world. While these expectations are necessary, encountering individuals who exploit them is an unfortunate reality.

Anna Bradshaw wakes up in a hospital after a car accident. She remembers nothing of her earlier life, including her husband Stephen. Her loss of memory is expected, after her head injury, and she returns home with Stephen in the hope of recovering her memory and her life.

Livvy Nicholson, newly married to the Dominic, who swept her off her feet, loves her new baby dearly, but also wants to get back to her challenging job after completing maternity leave.

All seems well, except Livvy's older sister Bea does not trust Dominic, and Dominic's estranged mother suddenly appears in their life, beseeching Livvy to convince Dominic to reconnect with her.

These two women seemingly have to relation to one another, as they seem so different, but as both storylines progress, one begins to see a possible connection between them.

So, I figured out what was going on early on, and who was doing what, and why. The author used language in the characters' conversation that were red flags for me, pointing immediately to emotional abuse through gaslighting, lying, and anger. The story's tension then for me was waiting for both women to realize what was happening to them.

The story moved along well, and illustrated how hard it was for the women to understand the abuse for what it was, and how to extricate themselves from it. The twist that occurs most of the way through the book didn't hit me as it might others. This drama, though, could be an interesting way to start talking about domestic abuse.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Amazon Publishing UK for this ARC in exchange for my review.

I didn’t get into this book right off the bat, but once I did, I enjoyed it. This is a solid domestic suspense novel. Thanks for letting me check it out!

"The Forgetting" is a deeply affecting novel that delves into the intricacies of memory, family, and the human capacity for forgiveness. Hannah Beckerman's exquisite storytelling and her ability to evoke powerful emotions make this book a standout. It is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing our memories while we can. With its compelling narrative and memorable characters, "The Forgetting" is a must-read for anyone seeking a profoundly moving and beautifully written exploration of the human experience.

I raced through this tense domestic drama in one sitting, I couldnt wait to find out what was going on. Told through the lives of two different women, both in pretty rubbish situations, the psychological suspense was ramped up.
Anna wakes up in hospital in London after being in a car accident, she can't remember anything, not even her loving husband Stephen. Meanwhile, Livvy is living in Bristol with her husband and son, planning her return to work after maternity leave. Dominic is quietly in charge, but Livvy is trying to see the best in the situation for the sake of the family unit.
The book flits between the two women's lives, and you feel more and more sorry for them, willing both Anna and Livvy to find a way out. Well plotted, character driven, full of tension and suspense, a great read.

This is such a riveting story. There is just enough happening from the beginning to raise questions that need answering. From that point on, I was hooked. This was a really fast and engaging read for me. I highly recommend for fans of domestic suspense/thriller.

To be honest, I fell in love with the cover. This book is not your average super twisty read which some people may not like. It’s a bit hard to get into at first, but it does pick up. Overall a good read. Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this.

I quite enjoyed the change of pace in this book.

This story is a slow unfold but not quite a slow burn. The storyline is interesting, filled with familial drama which envelops you almost immediately. I definitely felt curious about how things were going to connect as I turned the pages but I wasn’t shell shocked like some really good plot twist thrillers. I thought this was going to be more of a mystery thriller but it is definitely more of a drama mystery.

I liked the writing style of the author and the storyline was really good. I always love to mix up my readings and this fit the bill for me. I typically love me some good suspense and plot twists that keep me feverishly turning the page, but this felt more like a mellow glass of wine that you slow sip and enjoy so it lasts a little longer.

I only took off one star because I think the development of the story could have been a little better, but I would definitely read more from this author.

Smart and fun read that keeps twisting and turning! The two storylines are so well done independent of each other.

I honestly disliked reading most of this book, reading just to see how it would be resolved. I couldn’t relate to any of the characters and found them a bit maddening. It was difficult reading as it was slow moving and unpleasant. It’s hard to comment on much of anything without giving twists away. There is one twist that I pretty much figured out right away but another that I started to figure out about halfway through. It just became a question of how. There is good writing but bad psychology and medical elements. Amnesia doesn’t usually work like this outside of Lifetime TV movies. The end picks up speed and wraps things up, but the lack of credible psychological insight was still disappointing.

Still not a bad read that I read in a couple of cold and dreary days when I was supposed to be getting work done.

I read a digital review copy of this book via NetGalley.

This is a book that is best read without knowing anything about it. I don't believe it would have been as mysterious a read had I read any reviews beforehand. I will say that from the first page there is a hint that something is weird and that feeling continues for a good while.
There are content warnings but even those are spoilery.

I went into this thinking "Before I Go to Sleep," but was pleasantly surprised by how great it was! The writing was great, the ending was not what I predicted and the plot was packed with suspense. It was also my first Hannah Beckerman book, so I'm eager to read a few more of her books.

I am a huge fan of Hannah Beckerman and her ability to write heartbreaking novels with characters who draw you in. The Forgetting is another triumph that tells the story of two women. Livvy and Anna live in Bristol and London respectively. Anna is a new mum in a new marriage with Dominic and Anna has lost her memory after a car accident where her husband Steven was driving. All is not right in their relationships and things turn increasingly sinister as the story progresses.
I thought I had worked out the twist, but I was not correct. The subtlety of the storyline and the beautiful writing style had me completely absorbed. Highly recommend and incredibly topical.

Psychological mystery which was fairly predictable. Two separate stories but easy to see it was the same characters.

An incredibly well constructed psycological thriller that instantly sucked me into its plot and totally riveted my attention throughout. One of the best reads I've had the pleasure of reviewing this year. Loved it!

A solid entry in the psychological thriller/domestic drama category. A good page turner, well paced, decent tension throughout, all necessary qualities of the genre. I did guess the plot twist well before it’s reveal but the strong writing made up for that.

3.25/5 stars! This was a well-written mystery thriller with the right balance of suspense and storyline. Like happens with many of these stories, however, I felt like the women were written as extremely weak-willed until SUDDENLY they become courageous and brave. It doesn't read like real life and put me off from their characters. It was an ok story but didn't keep me fully engaged for that reason.

This was an excellent thriller - even though I knew what was going to happen, I still couldn’t wait to see how it revealed itself. I stayed up way too late to finish, and wasn’t disappointed.Definitely worth checking out if this is your genre!
