This was such a cute and well organized introduction to stitching! I'm excited to get a physical copy soon, so that I can practise the methods in this book easier than looking on my phone. :)
A lovely little introduction into embroidery! The book is wonderfully laid out - it didn’t overwhelm me, a complete novice to this craft.
I particularly love that the author highlighted that the craft can be as inexpensive, or expensive, as you like, but to start off you don’t need a lot. I also love how she didn’t disparage you if you put a project down, noting that those projects have worth, even if you don’t pick them back up - you’ve learnt something about yourself, how you like to craft, and what works (or namely, doesn’t work) for you.
I like how the final section, with the different crafts, has three different levels for each category - for instance, there is an easy mushroom project, a medium mushroom project, and a harder mushroom project, which applies for each subject. The author also encourages you to just have a go at each one, and learn as you go along.
Highly recommend if you’re looking to have a go at hand embroidery.
This book is such a crafty delight! The projects are wonderful and a great time to make. I would highly encourage all crafters to pick this book up and enjoy the time spent stitching.
I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
This was a really useful guide to stitching, and gave me a lot of useful tips and inspiration! It is also really well organized, which makes it a good tool to have if you are interested in stitching and sewing!
Will definitely buy a physical copy of this!
Satisfying Stitches by Hope Brasfield is a how to book on the basics of embroidery. The author/artist shows the reader how to:
• use a hoop
• Separate embroidery floss
• Thread a needle
• Transfer patterns
• 20 basic stitches
• 18 small doable projects
So basically it’s a 101 class to get your feet wet. Find out if you like and want to do this hobby. Very basic and fun.
Thanks Quarry Books via NetGalley.
I love all types of sewing, but hand embroidery really is fantastic for wellbeing and inspiring creativity. This book is full of beautiful embroidery ideas, for making everything from plants and flowers, to animals and fruits. Each stitch you’ll need is introduced and taught with accompanying photographs, and the actual patterns are clear, simple, and easy to follow - perfect for a total beginner or experienced sewer alike. Each of the themed projects have different, progressive levels of difficulty. You can follow the patterns exactly, or use the skills to create your own patterns and ideas. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry, Quarry Books and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
This book is just too pretty. The projects are adorable and set up in levels, level 1 is the easiest, level 2 is more difficult and so on. I like that there are multiple levels for each theme so it’s not like oh you want to do a fruit embroidery piece? Your skills aren’t there yet! There’s something for everyone!
I also really liked the pieces on the way embroidery can be mindful and help relieve stress. I completely agree! I feel like embroidery reminds me to be less hard on myself and take things one step at a time.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book gives a very easy-to-follow introduction to embroidery and the different stitches. The patterns included are simple and tasteful and offer every beginner a good point to start their crafting journey.
As someone with minimal experience in embroidery but who is very interested in learning more, I love how beginner-friendly this book is. Starting with the importance of mindset and emotions when working on something that can be as tedious as embroidery, this book then goes into materials needed and how to get started (using a hoop, starting, and ending). This book then goes into different stitches with descriptions paired with clear photos. The final section of this book goes into different projects that can be completed with the stitches taught in this book.
A good and easy reference book for beginners and early stitchers. Easy patterns, and good details on a variety of embroidery stitches. Would recommend this book.
Good book for beginner embroiderers. The instructions are well written and the stitches are well explained and illustrated. The patterns are interesting for a beginner. However, a more experienced embroiderer will find them too simplistic. The patterns are only for 3 and 4 inch hoops.
I am fairly new to the embroidery craft and this book has so much helpful information! I originally thought this only taught specific embroidery stitches, but no. It is an in depth guide to all things embroidery. How to get started, supplies you’ll need, etc. I already can not wait to get my hands on a physical copy of this book. The guide photos along with all of the steps are going to be so helpful for someone like me that is a visual learner!
An excellent embroidery 101 book. Good explanations and detailed pictures, as well as some great beginner designs that will build confidence for anyone who would like to try their hand at embroidery.
This is such a beautiful book! I have been eyeing all the beautiful, creative and yet somehow minimalistic embroidery works posted by others all over the internet, I have been getting lost in the world of pinterest and Instagram where there are lots and lots of beautiful embroidery pieces posted by so many people and I kept thinking to myself that *someday* I am going to find something that shows me how to do it. I want to create something beautiful too! And then I saw this book. And I know that this is it, I need it!
And the book does not disappoint. There is EVERYTHING in it, if you want to get started with embroidery, but have no real experience and have no idea what supplies you are really going to need. Awesome, now I have a shopping list for everything I need (there are some items on it that I never thought I would need, but it makes sense to have those!) and there are so many detailed instructions on how to create texture, how to make the stitch stand out, how to do this and how to do that. Lots of useful tips. Lots of explanation and advice. Lots of clear photos.
What a wonderful resource for new and old stitchers. I love the pictures and detailed instructions for different stitches as well as the large variety of patterns and directions. New stitchers will appreciate the thorough directions on supplies and setting up a hoop and pattern transfer. A great resource!!
I liked some of the explanations for bingers, but I did not like the pictures used and most of the patterns were too basic.
Satisfying Stitches was an absolutely gorgeous collection of patterns! I loved the styles they chose. As a complete beginner, this seemed like an inspiring set I would love to try with easy instructions to follow.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I love this. The book is bright, clear and easy to follow, and the author's tone is warm and welcoming. Informative and practical. The projects are cute as a button - there are 18 altogether. The cactus and succulent are my favourites! ☺️
Pleasantly surprised that this book was so accessible and calming. The instructions are simple and the author gives lots of great advice for accepting things that aren't perfect and figuring out your own way to craft.
This is absolutely perfect for a beginner stitcher, or even just someone who wants to embroider without pressure. The book gave a lot of great tips without becoming convoluted. The layout is nice and clean with easy to follow instructions, something I usually struggle with reading. The designs on the projects are fresh and pretty with something for most modern tastes. I highly recommend this book to aspiring/beginner crafters.
