Thank you, Net Galley, for this ARC. This book started out so strong and intense. However, unfortunately, it went down hill from there. There were too many character views and some first person and third person writing. I found many of the situations too easily resolved and unbelievable. Just wasn’t for me.
5 stars!! This was one of my most anticipated 2023 reads and it delivered, I think this may be my new favorite novel by Harlan Coben. I love how well he ties a story together down to (what we think at the time) are inconsequential facts. This was well written and sucked me in from the first sentence! I was nervous about reading it because of the subject matter, but stick with it because it’s worth it. It was fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend.
David’s story was compelling and it was a real adventure reading. I also really loved the exchanges between the FBI agents, Max and Sarah. Their characters and the way they verbally sparred with people was highly entertaining. I would love to see more books with them in it.
Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for letting me read an eGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The plot of this thriller really stretches your credulity but if you can manage to suspend disbelief, it's quite an entertaining read. David Burroughs is in the fifth year of a life-sentence for killing his three-year-old son, Matthew, when a visitor shows him photo proof that his son is still alive. But to find Matthew, David must escape from the penitentiary...
Lots of exciting action drive this thriller. David is an interesting character, pretty flawed and prison-hardened. He reminds me of a pinball, bouncing from one desperate situation to the next in pursuit of the truth. The two FBI Special Agents on his trail have a comic routine down pat as they go about their witness interrogations. One is determined to just do her job and return the convict to prison but the other begins to think about the evidence they are uncovering and dig a little deeper.
I received an arc of this new thriller from the author and publisher via NetGalley. Many thanks! My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.
David is 5 years into a life sentence for the murder of his three year old son when his ex sister in law shows up for a visit with a photo that changes everything.
Though this was a quick read and at times it did keep me fairly engaged as it is very action packed, it took some effort to get through. As the story progressed lots of Davids actions were not realistic and honestly rather unbelievable. Max and Sarah especially got on my nerves with their interrogation dialog. It just felt like B movie acting. I honestly wanted to give this a solid 2.5 stars, the ending gave it that extra little push to a 3 star read. If you can take this as the fictional story it is and not judge it by its lack of reality, this was a decent thriller.
I was THRILLED to get this ARC of the new Harlan Coben novel. I'm a huge fan and read all of his books as soon as they come out. Coben never disappoints and this may be his best yet. It's a fast paced on the run mystery! Coben is a brilliant storyteller and I can definitely see this as a Netflix series like many of his others. It really reads like a TV show or movie. The story is edge of the seat and in the end is wrapped up perfectly. Another winner from Coben! Thanks to NetGalley, Harlan Coben and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Page-turner alert! This is one of the most action-packed books I’ve read in awhile. I’m warning you now: once you start this one, you aren’t going to want to put it down!
David Burroughs is an inmate serving life in prison for killing his three-year-old son. The problem is, he didn’t kill his son (he’s pretty sure, but a history of sleepwalking didn’t help his case). He didn’t fight the charge, because he didn’t care. He doesn’t fight back when men in the prison come for him, because he doesn’t care. What’s the point? His son is dead; he failed to protect him. His wife has left him. It doesn’t matter what happens to him…he’d be just as happy if he were dead.
After five years of no visitors, one day his former sister-in-law shows up. Rachel was always good to him, and her visit is a good shock. She has in her possession a picture of a boy - a boy with a distinctive birthmark on his face. A boy named Matthew. A boy who is Daniel’s son. They don’t know how, but Matthew is alive. Now the question becomes how to prove it and find him.
I can’t say anything else except you need to buckle your seatbelt for this ride. The action starts incredibly fast and you are definitely not going to want it to slow down. Thankfully, the book never does; it stays suspenseful and thrilling through to the end. Many things in the story are quite implausible, but that’s really the only thing that would make me give it 4.5 stars instead of five. I’m rounding it up though - I loved the characters, loved the ending, and it was a very exciting premise and story. I’d really love seeing this in a movie!
(Thank you to Grand Central Publishing, Harlan Coben and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on March 14, 2023.)
This was WILD y'all! From beginning to end, it was one fast paced roller coaster! The writing was excellent and the plot was pieced together in a fantastic way. The plot moves so quickly and I was so caught up in it that I couldn't put it down. I read this in a day and was exhausted when it was over from the adrenaline rush. The twists were paced out in a way that kept me engaged and yet it was full of emotion. I loved it! 4.5 stars.
Once again another fantastic book by Harlan Coben. This book had me questioning everything throughout the entire book and still had me shocked by the end. I loved seeing Hester make a cameo in the middle!
Harlan Coben is one of my favorite author so I can't tell you how happy I was to see he had a new standalone release and that I was able to read it early. Despite the topics, his books are a bit of a comfort/nostalgic read for me and this new book was no exception. Do I get a stupid smile at every small reference to his previous books? Sure do!
This read was super fast and action packed. I flew through it, which sadly means I have to wait that much longer for another release. Boo! Now even under my rose-tinted glasses, I can admit that the story itself was a bit far-fetched. BUT I don't really mind suspending reality when its a constant throughout the book and not just one big far-fetched moment or twist. Plus, it's Harlan so you know that the plot is intriguing and definitely entertaining.
Thanks so much @netgalley and @grandcentralpub for my eARC. Seriously still giddy for my chance to read this one early!
interesting storyline fast pace, just make sure you have a good imagination .
Thanks NetGalley for advance copy
Five years ago, David, was accused of murdering his own son and even David is unsure of his guilt! That is until, his son, with a distinguishable birthmark, is seen in a photo by his sister in law. At that point, David will stop at nothing to find out the truth including breaking out of prison and tracking down some dangerous characters and evading capture by the FBI!!
I Will Find You is Coben at his best and will leave you with no doubt as to why he is a bestselling author!! It's an edge of your seat thriller with great story and character development and from the very first chapter, I couldn't put it down!!
I Will Find You by Harlan Coben is one of his best mysteries. Coben brings together several facets that eventually reveal the answer.
Harlan did it again! I could not put this book down, imagine waking up one day to find your son brutally murdered and you are the main suspect? There are so many twists and turns, I enjoyed it from start to finish.
I always enjoy Coben's everyman in peril stories and this one was a fun, quick ride. The everyman here is David, serving time in prison for killing his three year old son Matthew. David tells us he didn't do it but he is so depressed over the crime he has just shut down and accepted his fate in prison. Then one day he gets a visitor, and this visitor tells him his son may still be alive. The rest of the book is a fast-paced romp as David must find a way to break out of prison and to find his son. I didn't guess the twists and turns this book would take and while some of it was unbelievable, it was all plotted out in a way that each clue led to the next. I appreciated the details on prison life and h0w dangerous and depressing David's life had become in the five years he was incarcerated.
I didn't really care for the pair of bickering FBI agents and their "Lucy and Desi" banter got old fast. I did like Phillip, the warden of the prison and David's Godfather and Rachel, David's sister-in-law who was a kind and decent person dealing with her own demons. There are a fair number of characters in this book but they are all introduced in a way that is not confusing. Coben's last books have been a bit hit or miss for me but this one was a fun read and I finished it in one day! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in exchange for a honest review.
It’s been five years since David Burroughs was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his three-year-old son Matthew. Eyewitness testimony claiming to have witnessed him burying the murder weapon and his own hazy memories of the night contributed to his conviction, though David has consistently maintained that he is innocent. Since then his marriage to his high school sweetheart, Matthew’s mother Cheryl has ended and she has moved on. He has refused to accept visitors and has cut himself off from friends and family. But then, his former sister-in-law Rachel, a journalist who has suffered setbacks both personally and professionally, turns up with a photograph taken by her friends during a recent trip to an amusement park that shows a child who resembles Matthew.
Is Matthew still alive? If so, whose body did they bury? If he is alive, where is Matthew now?
David is convinced that the child in the photograph is his son and he will leave no stone unturned to find Matthew. The first step is breaking out of a maximum security prison and that isn’t going to be easy. Adding to his problems is a new inmate who seems to have it in for David. Then comes evading the FBI, who are in pursuit, while he searches for the truth David does not doubt that the child in the picture is his son and he will leave no stone unturned to find him. It soon becomes evident that there are forces at play who don’t want David to find out what truly happened five years ago and will go to any length to make sure of it.
Harlan Coben’s stories are well-crafted and engaging and reel you in from the very first page. I Will Find You is no exception. The mystery angle is well executed and though the main characters, David and Rachel are both seriously flawed individuals you don’t hesitate to root for them. The story also features a strong cast of supporting characters – including David’s friends and allies (among whom is Attorney Heather Crimstein who plays a significant role in assisting Rachel and David), and foes, both old and new. I should mention that a few scenes of prison violence are a bit disturbing. The FBI Agent duo featured in this story and their comedy act was a tad annoying. Though those segments did mess with the otherwise consistent pacing, thankfully it doesn't detract from the overall reading experience.
Overall, as far as action-packed suspense thrillers go, Harlan Coben’s I Will Find You does not disappoint! Fans of this genre are well aware that enjoying these books requires suspension of disbelief. As long as you don’t overthink it and don’t mind the OTT moments, you will enjoy the ride!
Many thanks to author Harlan Coben, Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the much-appreciated digital review copy. This book is due to be released on March 14, 2023.
I just reviewed I Will Find You by Harlan Coben. #IWillFindYou #NetGalley

“I am serving the fifth year of a life sentence for murdering my own child. Spoiler alert: I didn’t do it.“
That’s the opening line of this fast-paced, page-turner. I was hooked from that opening line and the pace never relented. I’ll admit the story is far-fetched and frequently beyond reason but that didn’t stop me from reading it in two days. I just had to find out who killed Matthew.
I’ve read all of Harlan Coben’s mysteries, and enjoyed them all to varying degrees. In this latest book, he follows his tried and true formula of an “every man” caught up in a usually implausible yet highly entertaining plot. “I Will Find You”, though readable, requires serious suspension of disbelief.
Five years ago, David’s son Matthew was murdered. David’s wife, family and friends gradually transition from supporters to doubters until he is ultimately found guilty of Matthew’s death. David exists in jail, but he doesn’t live and has given up caring about anything. After years of refusing visitors, he is forced to see his ex-sister-in-law who appears with a photo that seems to prove that Matthew is still alive. David seizes on this, despite the extreme improbability of it being true, and sets about planning how he will find Matthew.
Amid the implausible action that follows, I enjoyed the brief reappearance of Hester Crimstein, though an attorney providing untraceable vehicles to her client did seem maybe just a tad unreal. I didn’t enjoy the wisecracking FBI agents Max and Sarah, which reminded me of a bad comedy bit that went on way too long.
The climax and the subsequent epilogue was just so over the top that I couldn’t buy into it. The author has done better with previous books. This felt like a force fit into the formula.
Thanks to Grand Central Publishing and Netgalley for the digital review copy.
I have read many Harlan Coban books and have liked them all. This one did not disappoint. It grabbed my attention from the very first page and did not let go. The twists and turns in the plot kept me guessing and I liked the main character very much. I will definitely read this writers next book.
David Burroughs, wrongly accused of the brutal murder of his 3 year old son, is five years into his prison sentence, when he discovers his son my be alive. His plan? Escape from prison and find his son, Matthew. And that's what makes this becomes a Harlen Coben race to the finish. I have been a fan of Mr. Coben for years and his books continue to be thrilling and suspenseful. As David burns through clues in NYC and Boston, chased by law enforcement and some shady characters, the risk and danger grow, and reader tension becomes close to unbearable. It is easy to empathize with David as he moves mountains to save his son. The ending is surprising and satisfying. Solid 4 stars for this highly enjoyable read. Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to read I Will Find You.
I enjoyed this book, even if I did find the story a bit far-fetched. There are many times where you have to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the flow without really thinking or analyzing what's going on. I really enjoyed the banter that the FBI agents had and chuckled more than a few times. Overall, this book is exactly what you'd expect from the great Harlan Coben and lived up to expectations.
