Someone Just Like You has all of the opposites attract, enemies to friends to lovers, why don’t they just talk already vibes that you could ever hope for! You get witty banter plus serious name-calling, adorable dogs, tangled family dynamics, Jewish rep, and some serious cocktail love.
Meredith Schorr does a great job of creating relatable and likable MCs. Her pop culture references, including working Beatles’ lyrics into her characters’ conversations, are on point. The career and family dilemmas both MCs faced felt all too relatable and realistic - doing what you love vs what pays the bills, changing careers, being stuck in a career, and dealing with divorce.
Fantastic, fast-paced romcom that draws you in and keeps you riveted, determined to see how everything works out.
Someone Just Like You was a cute story… the characters weren’t as developed as I usually like. The main character was pretty immature- I found it hard to relate to her at several points in the book. I still have lingering questions about the relationship between the two characters— a lot of details about their past were kind of shoved into the story without a great chronology to go along with it. Maybe this would have benefitted from some flashbacks?? I had a hard time keeping the stories straight. Overall, definitely a fun world in which to spend time, but not a favorite.
TLDR: childhood enemies work together to plan an anniversary party for their parents.
Spoiler Free Review: I really wanted to love this one, but it fell short for me. I liked the two main characters, but I really didn’t like the family members (except for Nani) and that seriously detracted from the reading experience for a least half the book. The second half was better, but it felt like there were two many plot lines happening to focus on. Overall, I think this would be enjoyable for a casual romance reader, but as someone who reads a lot of romance it fell short.
Spoiler Note: the poem made me want to die. Why oh why was that needed.
I think this had potential but couldn’t connect to the characters. The family dynamic kept it interesting for me so would recommend for someone who loves friends to lovers with a little tension!
Jewish romcom that hits all the right notes.

First they were friends…
Then they were enemies…
Let the war begin!
Their families were neighbors and they were forced to get along but always had a prank ready and waiting.
Now as adults they must plan a group event for their parents. The pranks continue but they begin to see each other in a new light. You can guess what happens next!
This was a friends to enemies with a Ten Things I Hate About You vibe! It was an ok read for me. I liked them better as enemies to be honest. The romance wasn’t my favorite. But overall a fun and fast read.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley!

I so wanted to love this more than I did! With the gorgeous cover and childhood enemies to lovers premise, I was really looking forward to this read.
Unfortunately, I had a few problems whilst reading. I found the pacing to be incredibly slow, with a lack of plot to really push the narrative forward. It felt very all over the place, and I found it only picked up around the 50% mark. I didn't really feel any chemistry between Molly and Jude, and actually found them ill-suited, since they acted extremely juvenile around each other, couldn't communicate well, and never really resolved their issues. Molly herself was very juvenile for a 28-year-old, especially when it came to meddling with her parents. I wish I connected more with the protagonist to really care for her journey.
I really enjoyed the Jewish representation that was persistent throughout, with the holidays, use of Yiddish, and Jewish food described. Though, it made no sense for Molly to consider herself white-privileged, since Judaism is an ethno-religion, and has never been considered white in history. This is a qualm I have with several Jewish authors who make a note that their Jewish characters are white.
Meredith Schorr writes well, with intimate scenes written beautifully and flowing well, and humour embedded seamlessly, so I am looking forward to more of her novels.
It took me a while to get into this book, but that has nothing to do with the book itself.
I liked how Molly and Jude (rivals since birth) have been dating each others doppelgänger without realizing that they’re literally just like the person you claim to hate. It was a cute turn of events when they finally realized what was happening.
There’s a reference in here to one of my absolute favourite movies of all time 10 Things I Hate About You and that was just icing on the cake. There were a lot of other references as well (to other shows, movies, etc), but this one was my favourite!
Over all, this book was an enjoyable read! It is a slow burn so if that’s not something you like, this book isn’t for you. It was so cute at the end and it just had me smiling like an idiot during the last chapter and epilogue.

This was a delightful, well paced read by Meredith Schorr. Jude and Molly grew up together and turned into enemies somewhere along the way. They’re forced to work together to find the venue for their parents joint anniversary surprise party. After twenty years of pranks, tricks, and distrust there appears to be a spark - and their siblings noticed it long ago. The beginning was a bit juvenile with the pranks but I think likely necessary for character development and to set up the story. The banter was good and their history gave them connection and trust. I enjoyed the depth given to Molly with a career struggle and some other life lessons to experience. I would have enjoyed a dual point of view to better understand Jude, though definitely not a deal breaker. I really enjoyed the plot and it was an easy read with great characters! I couldn’t put it down!

I loved the premise of this book, lifelong enemies to lovers. Intertwined families, polar opposite lead characters. All the perfect combo for an enemies-to-lovers romcom.
I definitely enjoyed the witty banter between these two and the fact that they dated the doppelgängers of one another for YEARS.
Definitely, a really feel-good book, I think the development of Molly was great with her career path and her type-A personality.
However, there was a month gap after the two got together and I needed some more there. Was it a cute read? Yes. Great after a book hangover. But there was nothing that made me want to pick it up or stay up late to read so it took me a little while to finish this one.
Cute plot, nice characters, I just wanted a little more.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book. This was a cute book! Parts of it felt slow and lackluster like how I found Molly’s job issues realistic but boring. I enjoyed the romance and enemies to lovers aspect. I love how Jude and Molly’s romance blossomed and when they would argue I truly was tearing up. I really loved the tension there was throughout the book and I was happy with how it all ended.
Thanks for netgalley for providing this copy!
I enjoyed this. It's a typical "enemies to lovers" trope that I do really enjoy, and the B plotlines about job and life fulfillment held up well. I do also love that this took place over many months, and wasn't crammed into just a few weeks like so many romances. The fact that these two main characters also always dated someone 'just like them' worked really well, and I loved the connection to the title.
The main plot points were ok: nothing earth shattering. It was a cute fun read that I'd recommend for some cozy holiday reading.
This book is very fun and sweet. The characters are great, detailed and I became invested in them immediately. This is worth the read for sure!
I really enjoyed watching Jude and Molly go from enemies to begrudging partners in planning a surprise party for their parents. Of course everything else that happened between them was also wonderful to read about and their group of friends was the icing on the cake. The characters were well developed and believable and I loved that the epilogue took us so far into the future so we could get a glimpse of life for Molly, Jude and their friends.
3.5 stars
Meredith Schorr's As Seen on TV was one of my favorite books last year so I was really looking forward to this one.
Molly and Jude were best friends and neighbors as young kids. Somewhere along the way, though, that friendship turned antagonistic and they no longer get along. When they are forced to work together there were obvious sparks between them, and I was curious how their relationship would develop after so many years of fighting.
There were a number of things I liked about the book, but ultimately it was more of a like than a love. The story felt a bit repetitive in spots, and I didn't really feel the chemistry between Molly and Jude most of the time. I could see glimmers of it, but I would have liked more moments of them on dates or spending time together.
I did think Molly's work and family issues were interesting and added some nice layers to the story. It also helped me to understand her a bit better when I struggled with her character a bit at first.
The writing is easy to read and engaging with plenty of fun New York City detail. Overall this was a nice read and I am looking forward to seeing what Meredith writes next.
4 out of 5 ⭐️… it was soooo good at the end I truly do love the enemies to friends trope. Especially one like these where the man initiates the hate and the love. Simply beautiful.
4 ⭐️ because it was a little slow and predictable but i made it through. While I do love it, I realized I am not that big of a romance reader. It was well written and delivered. Character growth was 10/10 and ultimately the gems 💎 in this book are *chefs kiss* 🤌🏽
• plans don’t always work out or go in bullet point fashion or straight lines!
• the thin line between love and hate and boy isn’t it beautiful when love wins.
• our parent’s happiness is their own no matter what we do. And vice versa … that’s important.
•bestfriends dating bestfriends (this has to be my fav because I think anybody with a bestfriend would looooooove for it to work out how it did for the 4 in this book.
LOVE.
I was grateful to be allowed to review this book from netgalley and the author Meredith Schorr. Many thanks for the opportunity to do my favorite thing READ in exchange for my honest review. Much love, great work!
This was a cute read but I feel like the pranks were just too childish at times and they let their "hate" fester for too long but then the getting together and falling for each other was way to quick. Which means that the last quarter of the book dragged a lot and the conflicts were a bit too contrived so they were resolved very quickly. It just lacked tension in the end unfortunately.
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing), & NetGalley for allowing me to read this book
Meredith Schorr makes me smile once again with her newest novel Someone Like You. A young professional living in New York, Molly Blum is faced with seeing her archnemesis/childhood neighbor Jude Stark. Everyone thought the two would end up as best friends, but, they've spent their lives playing pranks/tricks on one another.
Now that they've been assigned to plan a huge anniversary party for their respective sets of parents-- it's on.
At first, they're right back to their old tricks. Right place, wrong time; mindless, annoying pranks. But, over time, the pranks become less and less frequent, and that friendship turned into something more. While Molly and Jude know how to hate each other, what they end up doing is falling in love.
Super cute, a quick read, with antics that made me LOL do not pass this one up!
Someone Just Like You follows Molly and Jude whose parents have been best friends for their whole lives. Molly and Jude hate each other were always pulling pranks on each other. Now they are adults and are forced to help plan a party for their parents. They are forced to spend a lot of time with each other planning the party. Both Molly and Jude soon realize that the other person is not as bad as they thought. They never thought they would find themselves falling in love. But yet here they are...
I really liked As Seen on TV so I was excited to read this one. I did think this book was cute. But I do think As Seen on TV is better. I found this plot a little predictable. But I still enjoyed Molly and Jude's relationship. If you are looking for a lighthearted romance book I would suggest this one.
Thank you, Meredith Schorr, Forever, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Molly and Jude are former neighbors who grew up with their siblings and families intertwined in eachother’s lives. Childhood friends turned into nemesis where they would rather prank or avoid eachother than make any attempts at civility. When they are paired together on a project for their parents, they are forced to be together but that doesn’t mean they have to get along. Molly is a planner and Jude is the opposite of that. The silly pranks and arguments turn into a begrudging alliance along with some realizations that they both keep selecting partners and dates that bear a striking resemblance or similarity to the other (the doppelgänger bit while cute, went a tad too far for me but it was a funny part to the story). The will they or won’t they back and forth was interspersed with Molly’s career and people pleasing tendencies. The group of siblings didn’t get a lot of attention but loved giving Jude and Molly a hard time. All in all, it was a cute fast read and I enjoyed it.
