I definitely am not the target audience for this one. Generally, I enjoy YA mysteries but this one was just ok. It kind of fell flat.

I am late on writing this review for this ARC due to I forgot I had this in the NetGalley app since it was an audiobook arc.

No spoilers

I listened to this book really fast when I remembered that I had it. The narration for this book was great that it kept my attention. The drama and the adventures of this book was great. This is a YA mystery thrilling book. I do get why this book has some hate about what is being said and how this book handles the situation, but this is fictional book, so it’s not based off real life nor educational. This book is for an entertainment, so if you are able to disassociate yourself and just read it as a high school drama, then I think you will enjoy this book.

Would I recommend? Yes, it was a great listen and a lot happens with figuring out the mystery of whodunnit.

This was a quick one. I was interested to know who was targeting them and couldn’t wait to find out. I struggled a bit with the rape discussions.

The narration was fine. Definitely sounded YA.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

No Accident is an average read. While the premise had potential, I found the execution lacking. The plot felt somewhat predictable, and the characters didn't resonate with me. The pacing was inconsistent, with moments of excitement but also stretches of dullness. It's not a bad book, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. If you're looking for a quick and light thriller, it might suffice, but don't expect a literary masterpiece.

Thank you Net Galley for providing this book and allowing me to read it in advance. I was unable to personally get into this book but that is the power of reading. There’s books for everyone. I know someone else will adore it!

Definitely a page-turner mystery, thriller. After a plane crash leaves a group of high school students stranded on a random tropical island it’s fascinating to see how things will unfold. The reader can’t help but have feelings reminiscent of Lord of the Flies and it’s even referenced in the story. Strange things start happening and when there are multiple it starts to add up that it’s no coincidence- someone is targeting them, but who? Is there someone else on this island, or worse, is it one of their own? Scary twists and turns have you wondering what will happen next.

Special thanks to #NetGalley #NoAccident for advance access to this audio book

this was pretty good. it was slow in the beginning but once it picked up it had my attention. I wish there was a little more going on but all in all I will recommend.

Oh no, the very thing I hate the most about reading is when I fell deeply invested in a story and then in disappoints me bug time.
the story starts great, a plain crashes and a team of athletes and cheerleaders, all students, find themselves in an island with almost no water or food. up until day five the story is really amazing but right about then everything goes down hill, for me and for the students. suddenly nothing is realistic anymore, characters get weird and the ending was much weirder for me. afterwards I was just asking why? WHY?
oh I was so disappointed,

thanks to NetGalley for providing me this audiobook.

Thank you, NetGalley, for an audio-ARC of No Accident by Laura Bates, narrated by Justis Bolding.
This is your typical young adult out for revenge thriller. The book held my interest, but is definitely better suited for teen readers. It is a book that would be easy to recommend.

While Reading: So far I don’t feel that it’s that much of a YA book, lots of language and sexual innuendos. Deals with Rape - a trigger for some but I liked the representation. Did not like how all of the discussion on Rape happened. Felt like it took over the story they didn’t worry about continuing the story but pushing the agenda. I would have rather it be more incorporated into the story. Also the rescue was just tacked onto the end. Why couldn’t we have found out where they were and how the families reacted. What about going to the police about those people? This is going to be forgettable.

Loved this book! I devoured it in 2 days and was listening any chance I got. I was dying to know what was going on and who was the one targeting the group! I’m usually pretty good at seeing the ending but it got me. Thank you to Net Galley for this book.

No Accident by Laura Bates

A group of seven teen classmates are left stranded on a deserted island after the plane they were traveling on crashes. As supplies dwindle tempers begin to flare and they begin questioning the motives of one another. The anxiety is kicked up a notch as a series of unexplainable incidents begins to occur and the group is forced to admit someone or something else is on the island with them and is out to get them. Did someone from home pursue them for justice or is this a figment of their imagination?

Reckless Girls (by Rachel Hawkins) meets LOST in this YA suspense thriller. This has major whodunnit vibes and kept me on the edge of my seat due to the high stakes incidents. While heartbreaking, the ending was very satisfying to see play out and explained. As someone who has been though the “antagonist’s” why, I hope no one else ever experiences this kind of pain.

TW: rape, slut-shaming, gaslighting, drugging

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 - 3.5/5

No Accident, fed my little black soul..

Why is it that we obsess over stories that usually hurt, murder, or torture people? Is it curiosity ? Who knows, but I am guilty as charged.

I was already terrified of planes but this book sure did heighten those fears!

This story was narrated with perfection. I was completely consumed and could not focus on anything but this audio. Not only was I completely and totally invested but I was late to work because I just HAD to finish and I could not get out of my car in the parking lot until I knew what happened!

I loved this audio so much, I will be purchasing a physical copy just so I can go back and make sure I didn't miss anything in addition to just wanting to obsess over it one more time!

Teaser :

When a small plane crash ends with a group of seven teens washed up on a deserted island, their first thought is survival. With supplies dwindling and the fear of being stranded forever becoming more of a reality, they quickly discover that being the most popular kid in high school doesn't help when you're fighting to stay alive.

And when strange and terrifying accidents start to occur all around them, the group realizes that they are being targeted by someone who was on the plane, and that the island isn't their only danger. A terrible secret from a party the night before the flight has followed them ashore—and it's clear that someone is looking for justice. Now survival depends on facing the truth about that party: who was hurt that night, and who let it happen?

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the audio arc of this book. I enjoyed the overall story, although I went in thinking it would be more thriller, when in the end it was more of a social commentary on sexual assault. It felt like there were two different parts to the book- the build up of what felt like a thriller or who done it, but then the last part was completely focused on the assault. And with as much was referenced to the main character's family, I would have liked to see a reunion scene.

I did not finish this book as I did not like the narration nor the storyline so, I can't give a review. Giving 3 stars as a fair rating because I didn't finish. I will not be reviewing elsewhere.

I had some real issues with this one. The story itself was good, well written and interesting. I loved the whole stuck on a deserted island setting. The issues come in to play at the end. *spoiler alert* The main issue here was the attitudes of teenage boys towards teenage girls, and a sexual assault that occured. I feel this is an important topic to discuss and I was glad to see it in a YA book. Now that being said, I do not think it was handled well. I get that the person wanted revenge for what happened but the motivations seemed a bit week and what the person did was pretty intense. Overall not a bad story but I think a few things could have been better.

No Accident is a NetGalley ARC. It was reminiscent of Lord of the Flies even alluded to it. Lots to discuss in an English class and tackles the big issue of rape culture.

This book is good. It’s a YA survival story. The only thing I didn’t love is that it was on the slow side for half the book then when things happened they were just sort of mild, if that makes sense. It sounded like it was going to be something more sinister I think.Still, it’s well written.
A group of teens are on a plane when the small plane ends up crashing. They find themselves washed up on a deserted Island. All they can think about (most of them anyway) is survival. They have a few supplies but they are dwindling and they begin to have the fear that they will never be found. Then, they begin to realize that just because they are the most popular kids in school (cheerleaders) it’s not doing them a bit of good when trying to stay alive.
Then the accidents start. They are strange and the teens find them terrifying. The group, after quite some time, begins to think that they are being targeted by someone who was on the plane. One of them to be precise. Now they realize that the island isn’t the only threat they are facing. They decide that something must have happened at a party they all attended and since they all have their secrets from it who knows who is doing these things.
This was okay. It had great potential but I just think it fell a bit flat. It did have a lesson in the end and an explanation about why it was done but it was still just not quite enough. I guess it made sense, well , it definitely made sense as to why the person thought to do it but it was just… I don’t even know. It was alright.
I would say if you like YA survival type stories you may really enjoy this so go ahead and give it a shot and see what you think.
One thing I will say is that if you like audiobooks, the narrator of this one is absolutely fantastic. She gives all the characters their own voice and makes the story more interesting. I had received an audiobook version of this story from NetGalley and really liked it.

This story is about a group of teens plane crash on a deserted island and must rely on each other to survive. It is well paced and full of action. The characters were a bit cliché at times but I think that added to the overall enjoyment of this story. I really enjoyed this book and recommend to anyone who wants a quick, fun, and engaging read.

When a small plane crash leaves a group of seven teens on a deserted island, survival becomes paramount. With few supplies making it through the crash, it becomes increasingly obvious that having skills in the wild may be key to the teens making it until they are rescued. As suspicious accidents befell one after the other, the group must figure out what is happening before no one survives.

Narrated by Justis Bolding, I found the book to be engaging and well paced. I would have rather No Accident to be a survival story instead of having ties to the teens' lives outside of the island. The book reminded me in ways of The Breakfast Club, with each of the teens assigned a "type" - the nerd, the jock, and so on. The exploration of the island and the overall vistas were neglected in a way, with the lush environment explained in vague terms.

Though I found the book to be entertaining, it is not one that I would recommend highly to other readers.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Audio Copy of No Accident by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this book entirely rests with me.
