Thank you Bookouture, Samantha Hayes, and Netgalley for the advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I have mixed feelings with this reading because on the one hand it presents certain interesting, captivating twists that one does not expect, but on the other hand it was predictable 95% of the time, something already smelled about certain things and I considered it a thriller or one of those books I usually read and I can't put it down because I need to know what's going to happen next.

Yes, it was an interesting read, different from what I usually read and that's why I think I had a lot of faith in it. The synopsis really leaves you shocked but from the beginning one already begins to elucidate certain issues that take away from the thriller (at least for me).

It's the first I've read by the author and I'd like to read something else to see how I get along with her!

I did not empathize with any character, they did not reach me. I was not moved, nor was I saddened by them. There were certain characters and situations that I didn't understand why they were in the book because they contributed absolutely nothing to the plot.

Anyway, I saw that many people loved this book and gave it 5 stars, I can understand why... but I don't feel that way.

Thank you to #NetGalley, #Bookouter and Samantha Hayes for the opportunity to read an advance copy of THE ENGAGEMENT, to be published 10 January 2023. A very unique domestic thriller that involved a myriad of bends and twists, right down to the last page. It was narrated from mainly the perspective of two people (Hannah and Molly) with some additions by other points of view. The storyline was pretty fantastic and I have some questions about the possibility of all of those things coming together over that period of time. People who enjoy reading this genre will probably appreciate this novel.

Such a jaw-dropping and slow burnt thriller!

Hannah and Rob have two daughters, younger daughter Amber and Belle who is turning to 18! Belle spent 2 months travelling in France and brought a big and shocking news when she arrived home.

Meanwhile Hannah prepared a big and surprising 18th birthday for her daughter Belle. Major relatives and Belle's best friends were invited. Hannah was devastated when Belle told her she was engaged. Why? Because once she met Belle's fiancé Jack, she knew there was some problems. Jack looked familiar to someone Hannah wanted to forget. Hannah felt the room was spinning. Hannah escaped from "Jack", and her dark secret was going to expose.

Among the various POVs in these 50 chapters, Samantha intensified the story structure from a steady pace. Starting from the second half, I could not stop reading it. You just want to know "what's next?" If you are looking for a page-turning and twisty thriller, The Engagement by Samantha Hayes will be the one you should add to your To-Read-List.

I just reviewed The Engagement by Samantha Hayes. #TheEngagement #NetGalley
The ending was the only part I really enjoyed, and why i gave it 2 stars. The prior parts went on and on and the book seemed a bit sloppily written, in my opinion. I was ready to call it quits, but I always finish the books I start. It was a decent story though. Just didn't pull me in. The cover is great really goes with the plot. It's definitely attention grabbing.

"Meet Jack" she says full of excitement "we're engaged".That's when Hannah's world comes crashing down her whole life will unravel if the truth comes out so she'll do anything to make saw the engagement doesn't last.
Having loved Samantha Hayes books from the very start I was looking forward to her new offering and boy what a read, totally unputdownable from the start, twists and turns galore and an ending I didn't see coming.
If psychological thrillers are your thing then Samantha Hayes is your go to author.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

PLOT TWISTING PAGE TURNER!!!
This kept me on the edge of my seat and at one point fell asleep and smacked myself in the face with my kindle. I got through the rest after that. I loved the way this author keeps you guessing and on the edge and every page you turn something new pops into the mix.
CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS!!! for some this may be an issue if not warned before hand.

I give this book 5 stars

I thought this was a great plot and quite a page turner
I enjoyed the development of the characters both likeable and despicable as it gave a great balance to the dark background. The twists were sometimes fathomable which led me into the final twists which caught me by surprise. I have read this author before and I enjoy the way she writes so I was looking forward to reading this and I certainly wasn’t let down. I will be recommending this one

This book follows Hannah, a 30-something business owner with a loving family. Her daughter, Belle, has been away for 2 months in France and is now engaged to someone Hannah thought she left in her past. This book follows Hannah and Belle as they navigate the situation.

I will say I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. The chapters were quick and the pacing was pretty good. It kept me wanting to read and I flew through this book. I felt like at times it was a little repetitive in the very beginning but otherwise a very good book. I would read another by Samantha!

*also I would check the trigger warnings!*

A book I could not put down!! Starting reading when I went to bed and I couldn’t go to sleep without finishing it. I needed to know what happened! Well written with twists and turns that make this a great book to read. I have read a couple of other books by Samantha Hayes so I had an idea that I would enjoy this one. Would definitely recommend if you like twists and turns you don’t see coming!

I had fun reading this book! I read it in a day I liked how the book went back and forth to the past and present and different POVs. I didn't enjoy the book as much as I would have thought because it was quite a slow burn. There was a lot of description in the book, both in the present and the past that was unnecessary in my opinion, added my the fact that I pretty much guessed what was happening. That said, the last 20% of the book was non-stop, on the edge of my seat action that I really enjoyed! Additionally, the last twist was AWESOME! THAT I did not expect and it made so much sense retrospectively!

Hannah thought she had escaped him. Until the day her 18 year old daughter, Belle, shows up at the party Hannah organized for Belle's birthday... with him. And guess what? They he's 20 years older. And guess what more? They are engaged.
I read Until You're Mine from Samantha Hayes a few years ago, and The Ex-Husband about 6 months ago, and absolutely loved both, so when I saw this one pop up on NetGalley, I knew I had to put my hands on it... and lucky for me that I did! Wow, I don't know what kind of men this author has in their life, but they sure know how to write hateable (unlikeable is just not s strong enough word...) men. Many times during my read I exclaimed myself, I growled and bit down on my own teeth... When a book (or a character) gets such strong reactions and emotions out of me, I know it is a special one. The writing has to be stellar for me to get this engaged in a story. Well done! I saw most of the twists coming, except for the last big one... wow! This was so dark and twisted... I loved it!
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Samantha Hayes does it again!

The Engagement by Samantha Hayes is a well-written, unputdownable thriller.
I flew through this book in less than a day and found absolutely every page compelling and enthralling.
I loved the writing and I found the story so gripping and compelling to read.
It was twisty, unpredictable and kept me guiessing the whole time.

I will be looking for more from this author. In the future.

thank you to netgalley for allowing me to read this before its official release in exchange for an honest review.
i have slightly mixed feelings about this book. on one hand, i quite enjoyed the writing style and the multiple pov's! there were a lot of times where i got completely lost in the story and couldnt wait to read what happened next. however, on the other hand, there were also times that i felt bored while reading it. some scenes dragged on unnecessarily (not going to specify what scenes because i dont want to spoil anything) and other times the writing felt a bit rushed. there were a few plot twists that were super interesting, but i predicted them pretty early on. HOWEVER, they werent super predictable, ive just read a few books with similar plot twists so i knew what to look for and i connected the dots pretty easily. i also feel like there were a lot of loose ends that didnt tie together in the end.
despite all of my criticism, i genuinely did enjoy this book!!!! im looking forward to reading other books from this author in the future! 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars!

First time reading a novel by this author and I’m impressed.

The story kicks off straight away and grabs your attention from the get go. I thought the pacing of the story was good and it kept me intrigued until the end.

Plenty twists and turns- some predictable and some not.

Overall, would recommend this book. Definitely a page turner and good for a quick read that will please thriller fans.

Honestly, I don’t really know where to start with this review. There were some aspects of this book I absolutely loved and others I definitely did not.

This book had all of the right pieces: it’s dark, twisted, and has an incredibly intriguing premise. I think the plot and the twists at the end were some of the best twists I’ve seen in a long time!

However, the execution of this story was lacking in my opinion. A large portion of the book lagged significantly, and the dialogue was much too on-the-nose for my taste. It was hard to push through the tedious writing style, in order to get to the immense payoff at the end.

Overall, I was disappointed in this story, as I felt it could’ve been a home run in a different author’s hands.

This book grabbed my attention right from the beginning. I then found it didn’t hold my attention, and I had a hard time picking it back up.

It wasn’t a bad book it just didn’t hold my attention well and that’s why I decided on 3 stars. It did have an interesting story, the daughter brings home her new fiancé and her mother knows this mystery man but can’t tell for fear of losing everything. The book progressed a little too slow for me while not developing the characters as well as it could.

Overall it’s worth a read for the ending. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoture for the arc.

The Engagement is another page turner by Samantha Hayes who always entertains with twists and turns and an ending you never saw coming.

I definitely did not predict the ending of The Engagement.

The book is full of red herrings, secrets, nasty people and with every page the tension mounts just a bit more.

Hannah's daughter is engaged at 18 to someone from Hannah's past and Hannah knows he is bad news.

She will do anything to protect her daughter while protecting her own secrets that would destroy her world and that of her family.

The pages turn quickly and the lights stay on for just one more chapter or perhaps three.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for thrilling read.
