Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
This book is about friendship and what happens when the friends come up against something which could drive a wedge between them, according to the blurb. Well, I say carry on and split up because I don't know how Natalie and Fiona carried on a friendship, and thank goodness my friends are nothing like either of them. I feel sorry for poor Matt, Fiona's boyfriend, as he's stuck in the middle of their jealousy and childishness. True friendship is about being happy for your friends, and supporting them through their difficult times, not constantly wishing you were them because you've made choices you regret. I persevered to 50% when I read Fiona asks Matt if he wanted to be 'trapped' a few weeks after moving in together. This is more like a story about children, it's not for me, I DNF.

A nice book about navigating a friendship when life changes. I loved this because it felt true. The characters are believable. I think I have to read something else from her because she's a great writer.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

“Ready For It” by Nicola Masters is a contemporary novel that delves into the complexities of friendship, life choices, and the inevitable changes that come with growing up. Set against the backdrop of a quaint Cornish coast, the story follows best friends Natalie and Fiona as they navigate the tumultuous waters of their late twenties.

The plot centers around the duo’s evolving relationship as they confront the reality of approaching thirty. Fiona decides to move in with her long-term boyfriend, leaving Natalie to figure out how to manage living expenses on her own. In a twist of fate, Natalie lands her dream job, which happens to be the same position Fiona had her eyes on. This professional overlap leads to a public falling-out, putting their friendship to the test.

One of the strengths of the book is its exploration of the theme of change. The author captures the essence of how life’s unexpected turns can strain even the strongest bonds. The story is a reminder that sometimes, friendships must evolve or end as individuals grow and pursue different paths. The book’s portrayal of the bittersweet nature of growing apart from childhood friends is both touching and thought-provoking.

I’m not a huge fan of putting woman against woman against the backdrop of a lifelong friendship- it feels too harsh and bleak.
Misjudged situations, resentments - whilst human are not as venomous within what was purported to be such an intensely close bond.

"Ready for It" offers a swift and entertaining exploration of female friendship dynamics, delving into themes of jealousy, betrayal, and ambition through the perspectives of protagonists Natalie and Fiona. While Natalie envies Fiona's seemingly stable relationship and career prospects, Fiona feels a step behind in her own life journey.

The book starts out strong with humor and laugh-out-loud moments, but lacks depth in terms of plot and conflict resolution. The frequent swapping of viewpoints within chapters, sometimes after just a paragraph, proves disorienting and detracts from the narrative flow. However, Nicola Masters' writing shows improvement since her previous work, "Happy Happy Happy," and readers seeking a fast-paced read with relatable themes of modern female friendships may find enjoyment in this book.

Fiona and Natalie have been best friends for a long time, they'd shared dreams and made plans of travelling the world. That is until Matt changed things and took Fiona away with him.
Both friends are envious of each other but their world changes when they both want the same job.
A great easy read about friendships and lifestyles changes.

I wasn't a huge fan of this one. The characters were shallow, immature and one dimensional. The plotline had promise and could have gone so much further but became increasingly predictable and dull. I didn't love it I'm afraid.

I liked the quick pace of the book with frequent alternating points of view of the two best friends (and when I say quick, I mean every page or so they alternate). The story was a little young for me and a little too sweet. Thanks to Net Galley for a chance to read this.

The book started off OK, but it started to get predictable fairly quickly.

I skimmed the last half to see what happened in the end... and I wish I had just DNF'd it.

Very forgettable unfortunately (at least for me).

this book is fun to read telling a story of two friends who in a way try to better each other and fallout along the way but end up making things right in the end one to read

wasn't sure i'll like this book, but surprisingly i enjoyed it more than i thought i would.

maybe i'm used to having one pov per chapter, the multiple and interchanging pov within one chapter was confusing to me. i get that the point of having pov was to allow the readers to have a better understanding of what the characters were feeling at that moment, but it seemed like the characters had no filter on and were babbling throughout; it felt incoherent to me and it made the chapters seemed longer than necessary.

i'm also grateful to have read this book because it made me think. it brought up being responsible for your actions and owning up to the consequences from those actions. and trying to be an adult just because you're a grown-up or currently at an age where you are expected to be acting in a certain way.

A quick read about two best friends who lived together but one of them moved away.

Obviously more happens than that but not much.

Quite an average read.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC

This book was wild, and not in a good way. Natalie and Fiona are two best friends since forever. Heading toward their 30s, their lives are now going in to very different directions, as things generally do when you get older. Except these two never just have a conversation. You're wanting me to believe they've been best friends forever but now one thing could possibly come between them so they just stop communicating altogether? It wad so unbelievable. On top of that you have to wait until almost the very end for anything to happen. And the "big thing" could have been handled with a phone call. I just didn't like it at all and truly didn't understand the point. It took me so long to finally get through it. This may just be me and I hate to give a not great review to anyone, but this one I just didn't understand.

⭐️⭐️/5

I received an advanced copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to NetGalley, Amazon Publishing UK, and Nicola Masters.

This was quite the best friend story! Nothing a little talking it out with each other that could've solved everything, but then we wouldn't have a story to read. The plot was good, but I didn't enjoy the characters that much. It was an easy and quick read.

Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for the eARC!

So I got this book and thought it sounded really good. Unfortunately I spent the whole book waiting for something really good to happen. Unfortunately nothing did it was a mundane book. I was waiting for the falling out to happen unfortunately you have to wait for the end of the book for that and then it was a quick they have fallen out now there friends. I think this book could have been a lot better like I said I was excepting the fight to be quite close the beginning of the book. I realised from this book that I don’t really like these kind of books there just to boring for me. I did like the writing style that was really good as you had the story from one side Fiona then the other side Natalie. Would I recommend this book probably not as I like books with twists and turns and a surprise ending.

Told from the POV of two friends who are both at different crossroads in their lives. I enjoyed reading this book and felt that the characters were well-developed and had me rooting for them both.

Ready for it by Nicola Masters had me enjoying Natalie and Fiona’s friendship vibe but very quickly becoming frustrated at the behaviours and responses of the two girls who still seemed to think they were in high school. I don’t want to give any spoilers but this is a bit of a holiday /YA read. The characters were formed well enough to be unlikeable but without sufficient depth to really understand them properly. Themes of teen friendship , coming of age and social media pressure were in there but I was left with a feeling of the surface having been skimmed. Overall it was a good wee beach read for me. Three stars
