📚Book Review: Ready for it by Nicola Masters
This is the story of two best friends, Fiona and Natalie, who both want what the other has. Fiona has just moved out of her house with Natalie and got a place with her boyfriend Matt, whilst Natalie has been on a number of dates with unsuitable guys she’s met online and envies Fiona and Matt’s easy relationship. There’s also a lot of unspoken resentment between them because Fiona ditched Natalie and their plans to go travelling together in favour of going with Matt last year. Then Natalie and Fiona go head to head for the same dream job and Natalie gets it, leaving Fiona stuck in the job she’s had since she was a teenager, working in an ice cream shop.
All of this leads to tension building between them, culminating in a big argument at the pub one evening. However when they wake up the following day they find out that someone else in the pub videoed their argument, posted it online and it’s gone viral. Whilst this is Natalie’s worst nightmare, Fiona revels in the attention and disregards Natalie’s pleas to not fan the flames.
Overall, my thoughts on this book are it was a good concept, and I liked the way it switched between Fiona and Natalie’s perspectives so you got both their viewpoints on the same thing. However I thought the storyline collapsed when the video of them arguing went viral. It’s not like it was a physical fight or there was anything particularly bad/funny said. I thought this whole storyline was much too far fetched and over emphasised. Therefore, not a great read overall. Thank you to NetGalley though for giving me this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is a story of friendship between Natalie and Fiona. They grew up together and then were flatmates. When Fiona moves into a flat with her boyfriend divisions occur. Natalie wonders how she will pay the rent on her own.
Fiona and Natalie both go for the same dream job and they have a massive public showdown. Will their friendship survive?
I did enjoy this book, even though at times I found both of the main characters selfish and infuriating.
Great story of friendship, how life's events change the dynamic and the battle to stay there to support each other when it would be easier not to. Well written from both viewpoints and this isn't a book where you would take sides as you will be cheering both the main characters on.
Ready For It is an interesting read read on female friendship. It is told in the two person narrative of Fiona and Natalie and it took me quite a few chapters before I could get a handle on this. Relateable characters in the main but I have to say I did not like Fiona one bit even after her change in attitude. I also felt the ending was a bit rushed and cliched but overall I enjoyed the book very much.
An enjoyable read which explores female friendship and the pressures it suffers when one party gets into a relationship with the opposite sex. At times I found it confusing as the narrative swopped between the two girls, at times uncertain who was telling their story. Funny. And sad in parts but an easy read.
First, I feel it is only fair to mention that I am not one to DNF books. As your typical type A personality, I like to finish a book once I start it. I know authors put a lot of time and energy into their writing. Therefore, I like to read at least 25% of a book before deciding to DNF it. Sadly, I barely made to 10% before calling it quits on this one.
The main reason I decided to DNF Ready For It is simple, I have a ton of eARC books I need to get through and not enough time. I had high hopes going into this book being that it focuses on female friendship and how jealousy and comparison lead to issues in these relationships. However, as I began reading it became evident I was not connecting with the characters or plot. Instead of forcing myself to continue I made the decision to stop reading.
While I did not end up reading the book I would like to thank Lake Union Publishing and Netgalley for approving me to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Disclaimer: I hope that potential readers of this book see that while this was not a fit for me, reading is subjective, and should not detour them from giving it a shot.
Thoroughly enjoyed this story and how true to life some of this could be. Really displays the importance of being able to be open and honest as well.
This was an easy light read. Friendships can be complicated and changes occur as people mature or find a different direction. Particularly if one is left behind and emotions become involved. In some ways I felt this book was more suitable for teenagers despite the characters being marginally older. Rather immature behaviour.
The fall out between two friends and the implications it causes. Sadly I found the alternating points of view to be very confusing.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC
Thank you to Net Gallery and Amazon Publishing UK, Lake Union Publishing for this e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
My favourite thing about this novel is the dual points of view and how the main crux of the story is how both characters are jealous of one another's different circumstances. However, their circumstances don't seem to change much over the course of the novel and the stakes never seem extremely high. I liked the emphasis on friendship love and how you can be a good friend while still making mistakes, but neither of these two protagonists were particularly engaging or interesting..
The main characters are not likeable or interesting. The narrative jumps between their two points of view, sometimes after two or three sentences which made it very difficult to keep track of whose viewpoint it was. I think some of it was meant to be humorous but in my opinion many of their misunderstanding/ failure to communication were just so trivial.
This book was good and I enjoyed the character development. The book was very well written and it was a quick read.
I enjoyed this book- it flowed so well and in part I felt like I knew what was around the corner. But that didn’t detract from how good the story is,
This was a great story of friendship and romance.- thank you very much for the opportunity to read it.
I’d describe this book as realistic fiction. The author has done a fantastic job of creating imaginary characters and situations that depict the world and society. The characters focus on themes of growing, self-discovery and confronting personal and social problems. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
I received a e-arc thanks to NetGalley:
Natalie and Fiona have always been best friends and they’ve gone through life together, lived together and pretty much done everything together. However, with them getting closer to 30 everything seems to be falling apart. The cracks between them get wider and as they both grow up and become stronger people as individuals, will they be able to adapt together or will they both move on without each other?
I enjoyed this book, it showed the importance of friendship and relationships in your life and what happens when they break down and fall apart. It also showed that when parts of your life change and your priorities change sometimes friendships and relationships also change and don’t fit into your life anymore. This book was so realistic and I felt like I related to it a lot. There was a lot of immaturity which we all deal with going through our 20s as we are still trying to figure out what we want and who we are. I found myself preferring Natalie more which was definitely unfair of me but I understood her feelings more and felt like Fiona’s decisions were a bit much. I did still enjoy the book though, I just felt like it was missing something.
Two best friends fall out after a fight because they won't communicate.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.
Enjoyable book about besties who nearly ruin their relationship because they will not communicate honestly. Not the most developed characters or surprising plot but certainly a fun read with some good laughs.
Pick up this book up if: you’re looking for a beach read that isn’t centred on a romantic relationship
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Not my favourite book this week. I think I felt too old for it! Falling out between two best friends, points of view all over the place, a bit too complicated for me. Fiona and Nathalie were both well described characters but they didnt feel like real people to me. Somehow there was nothing happy about the book.
But thank you NetGalley for the chance to read and review the book
