They say stay-at-home moms should earn a multi-six-figure income...so why not monetize that mental load and make it yourself?! So much of this book resonated with me and it was a thoughtful read for sure.
This has such a fresh and unique premise and compelling characters that kept me engaged. It was even better than I expected and definitely impressed me as a debut.
Thank you Simon & Schuster for the chance to read this book on NetGalley.
5 star entertainment all the way! I was hooked from the synopsis alone; I mean what a neat concept!! I felt like this was a wholly original and unique concept with some very relatable characters and life stories that felt messy in a way all moms/wives could understand.
I have been reading Carolyn Mackler books since I was a teenager, and I am still hands down a FAN! This one gets all the stars from me and I really hope there are more adult books coming from Mackler soon! I would recommend this to any of my mom friends and even some friends without kids who just enjoy a good look into the life of a family.
I really enjoyed how the chapters bounced between the 3 mom friends and how each friend had their own "issues" they were working through with their ex-husbands and kids. Madeline really reminded me of Samantha from Sex in the City and that was fun!
Many moments made me laugh out loud or roll my eyes; read this if you enjoy a good laugh and can appreciate the struggle of trying to do it all and keep everyone happy.
I thought this was a very light hearted story for a very serious underlying problem in marriages. I was all for the three divorced women in this book. I liked the characters, but there was some immaturity for me that I could have done without. It was an easy read for me and I think a lot of busy and exhausted women can relate!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC.
You can’t put a price on the mental load- or can you? The Wife App was so interesting and led to me wishing I had an app to dole out some of the mental load of parenting!
I loved the women in this book and how they handled business
3.5 / 5 stars
The Wife App was a cute, empowering read that celebrated female friendships and not settling for less than we deserve. I really enjoyed hearing the story from the perspective of all three main characters. It made for a quick read and it kept the book flowing nicely.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.
Lauren, Madeline, and Sophie all have separate reasons to be mad that they are taken for granted, and on a girls’ night out, they decide to build an app that monetizes the mental load of being a wife.
In the process, of monetizing the chores most women do for free, they can unburden their minds and prioritize their own needs.
Why We Liked it: We love the conversation this sparks about the mental load of being a wife and mother. The book drags a little on the technical aspect of the app, but it was interesting watching each woman come into their own later in life.
I just couldn't finish this one. I tried and tried, but it just would not hold my attention. It was all over the place for me and I couldn't really see where it was all going. I don't usually quit, but I want enjoying myself and I read to enjoy!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was a wild ride of modern marriage and revenge, on a subject that should often be showcased. Definitely an entertaining read.
This was such a fun, engaging read although I didn't think about it much after I finished it. It's been years since I read a Carolyn Mackler book and I remembered how unique of a writer she is.
The book did not turn out as I expected
The idea was good though, having an app to help wives achieve their daily tasks..yes!!!
But seeing the women’s friendship and figure life out together that was one of the highlights in the book
This book has a great premise, figure out how to quantify and monetize all the jobs a wife and mother performs. I really enjoyed seeing that process, especially taking into account the mental effort all those jobs involve.
This is a fun read, 4 stars. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.
This book was fantastic!
As a mom of a toddler, I vibed with this book. It was like a mix of the First Wives Club movie colliding with kids and technology. The multiple plots were so interesting, and I was rooting for them all by the book's end. I will add this book as my book club pick for years to come!

Lauren, Madeline and Sophie are three best friends who all happen to be divorced.
Lauren is the last to get divorced and while celebrating the three friends come up with the idea of the “Wife App”. This is an App where anyone can sign up to be a
“wife”. After researching and proposal’s they finally get financing and the App gets published. There App becomes successful and their customer base grows.
These three women struggle with their own live and their ”life” in the App.
Will they be able to handle everything with their sucesss and their own lives. This was such an interesting concept and the book was interesting and very unique. The book was ok and personally I thought it could be so much more.

I’m so torn on if I liked this book or was more meh on it. This almost reminded me of The First Wives club but with more of a modern day theme too it.
All the characters are great but there was something missing for me.
Attention readers: Carolyn Mackler’s new novel, The Wife App (which comes out today) is the book you need to add to your TBR this summer! Brimming with wit, humor, and camaraderie, this book will definitely change the way you view the women in your life.
This book has such an interesting concept and I enjoyed this story more than I thought I would! Looking at motherhood and wifehood through the scope of these three different women definitely highlights how every person’s situation and circumstances are different and how tough it is to live your own life when you're constantly concerned about how others perceive you, and even how you perceive yourself.
All three of our main characters really flourish throughout this book and I really enjoyed seeing how they take The Wife App and use it to change and reevaluate their lives. I think it just highlights how you’re never too old or too young to change your life!
This book also made me respect wives, moms, parents, and spouses with so much more (shout out to my own amazing mom lol!)
Overall, I really like this feminism book and how everyone’s journeys and “happy endings” turn out differently. If you’re looking for a binge-able book with strong female characters, then this is the book for you!
*I received an ARC from Simon and Schuster in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley, Carolyn Mackler and The Publisher for giving me the opportunity to receive an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I wanted to LOVE this book! The description grabbed hold of me and I was excited to read it. Don't get me wrong it was a cute book but I guess I just wanted more. I would recommend this its a cute easy read.
This story was intriguing but odd. I think I just didn’t connect with the characters, even tho they were very well written. It was interesting but somehow fell flat for me.
I thought The Wife App was quirky and unique - definitely a fun and uplifting read! Look forward to seeing what Carolyn Mackler comes out with next.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a fun, inventive exploration of marriage and friendship in the modern day. It reminded me of the classic Judy Brady essay "I want a wife"—brilliant!
