Reading this story took me a lot longer than anticipated.
Don't get me wrong:
It is a good story, however - it could have been written with less words.
It was a very, very slow burn for me.
To try to explain this a little better - let's take a rainbow, for example:
I believe it's completely sufficient to describe a rainbow as colorful, starting at one point and ending at the opposite end, being colorful and beautiful.
I do not need to know, how many colors and which colors are in the rainbow, and if God or the gay community claim it theirs, if there is a pot of gold at the other end, etc. and while describing it in all the details, it constantly repeats its description.
That's how this book seemed to me - a lot of writing used over and over repeatedly.
We already know, how the main characters felt about certain situations - no reson to repeat over and over.
I would have given this book a solid 4.5 stars, if it would not have been read repeatedly slow as molasses...
Again - the story is great, but the length was un-necesary.
To cut it short: Come to the point and move on - do not regurgitate, because that adds a big "boring factor" to the whole story.
Would I recommend this book ?
Yes, but only if you can deal with a true slow burn and want to invest the time.
Thankyou to Netgalley, the Publisher and Anna Lou-Weatherly for allowing me to read this ARC.
This is the first book that i have read by this author.
I enjoyed this book, i was drawn in by the picture on the front cover.
This book had twists and turns that made you keep guessing.
There was an explosive twist at the end that you did not see coming!
Will read more from this author in the future.
Thankyou
3/5
I enjoyed this book Thank you to Netgalley for the early copy. This book was part domestic thriller and part police procedural. The multiple POV really made the story compelling. Highly recommend
A twist filled gripping book which worked perfectly as a stand-alone for me! The twists kept me on my toes and fully engaged
One of the few mystery novels that was jut amazing. It involves trust relationships with spouses, friends and children. Could not put it down. It is smartly structured and grips the reader from the opening chapter and never lets go
Great book flowed well kept my interest through out the the characters were great didn't know what expect as this was a new author for me but I enjoyed the book
I loved this book. Straight in to the story from the very beginning and so many twists to keep the reader engrossed. A twist at the end that I didnt see coming. A great twist but it left me feeling quite sad for the characters. This is a book I would highly recommend and many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read the ARC
THE LIE IN OUR MARRIAGE By Anna-Lou Weatherley
Maggie is celebrating her 25th wedding anniversary in full swing. When she goes into the attic to retrieve her husband's surprise, she stumbles across a scarf that doesn't belong to her. The scarf has a scent that is distinctly familiar to her and has blood droplets on it. Just then she hears about a body being pulled out of the lake near her locality.
😊What i liked -
✔ Thriller/Mystery.
✔ This book grips you from the first chapter itself.
✔ You see how a woman keeps reeling in doubt, confusion and suspicions. The repercussions of those three combined had been quite lethal to the mind.
✔ I loved the way the story revolved around the investigation too. The Balance between Maggie's pov and the Detective's pov was well maintained.
✔ It's quite a gripping twist filled book with quite a few shocks.( I read this book in one sitting)
🤔What could have been better -
✔ Though i read this book in one sitting and is full of twists but at times you do feel a few dips in the story here and there which slowed it down.

The Lie in Our Marriage by Anna Lou-Weatherley I have loved all of this authors books This is the sixth book in the excellent Detective Dan Riley series and was brilliant from start to finish and a great page turner. Especially as kept me guessing right till the end and the Bang!!!! didn't see that brilliant twist at the end. All the characters were excellent and well developed they all fitted well within each chapter. I just love Detective Dan Riley.
I loved this book.
I highly recommend The Lie in Our Marriage another 5 star read.
Big Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and Anna-Lou Weatherley for this ARC in return for an honest review.
Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
During the party to celebrate her twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, Maggie climbs the ladder to her loft to retrieve the special surprise she has planned for her beloved husband Len. While there, she finds something so shocking that it has her questioning Len’s love for her – and their, up-until-now, picture perfect marriage. What unravels was a twisty suspenseful book that I couldn't put down. This authors ability to shock me with where she takes her plots just makes me want to devour her books. A must read for domestic thriller fans or just thriller fans in general, it will have you side-eyeing your friends, family and most loved ones. #thelieinourmarriage #annalouweatherley #netgalley #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #thestorygraph #litsy #thriller #bookqueen #bookstagram #amazonaustralia #kindle
So mixed feelings about this book. I was getting into the story and then I did not like the quickness of the plot change and then it fell short for the ending. I also loved the plot change as it was going into a direction that I had not thought it would go to.
This book follows Maggie, our newly 25th anniversary married mother of two, thru her what I would like to call moment thinking that her husband was not into her anymore and that he was having an affair. We follow her struggles with trusting people around her and giving a lot of judgement to the people around her but in her mind only. She finds a scarf belonging to a murdered young woman and that is where the story then goes on the adventure.
This is my first in the series of 6 books following the detective Dan. and did not go in this with any expectations of reading the author before.
This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and when you think you have figured out the book it takes a turn.
Really good story line, though I couldn't get invested as much as I usually do. Wasn't gripping enough to not put down in this instance.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and Anna-Lou Weatherley for this ARC in return for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story and I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars. Although I found who the killer was to be a little predictable, there were still some twists I didn’t see coming. It was an emotional roller coaster for Maggie that was well written. I always enjoy detective Dan Riley stories and can’t wait to read the next one.
I've always really enjoyed the author's previous books and this one was no exception.
The story begins with Maggie and her husband Len, celebrating their 25 wedding anniversary. Amid all the festivities, Maggie suddenly stumbles across a mysterious scarf hidden in the loft of their home. Whilst initially believing Len is cheating on her, Maggie's disbelief and horror escalates when a news story about a murdered young women shows her to have been wearing the very same scarf....
I loved how the tension and menace builds throughout the book, I desperately felt for Maggie and her children. The characters were believable and well drawn, especially Maggie herself, and Remy and Lewis, her daughter and son. There were several twists, the first caught me completely off guard and changed the whole outlook of the story.
The police detectives Dan and Lucy were likeable, as well as relateable and I enjoyed continuing to follow their stories from earlier books.
Definitely one I recommend for anyone who enjoys domestic type psychological thrillers.
Thanks to author, Anna-Lou Weatherley, publishers Bookouture and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I found this combination domestic thriller-police procedural to be quite absorbing and engaging. The narration was from two points of view -the homicide detective and the married woman. or protagonist.
The suspense kept me turning pages quickly to find out who did what to whom. I found Maggie to be very passionate and yet disturbed from her mother's self-inflicted death when she had been only ten years of age. She carries that loss throughout her life and relationships, particularly with her family.and it confounds her. Readers who appreciate such a combination genre will likely enjoy this novel.
This is the second book I have read by Anna Lou-Weatherly and boy does she know how to write a story. While I did not like the main character of Maggie, I think she was written perfectly so that you aren't supposed to like her. At times I wanted to scream at her to talk to her husband, at other times I just wanted her to stop jumping to conclusions when she finds a woman's scarf that doesn't belong to her. Maggie and Len are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary when a local girl is found dead. Of course everyone is wondering who did it. I had my own thoughts as clues were dropped, or at least I thought they were clues, but oh what a twist! One you don't want to miss out on.
A really enjoyable read that kept me guessing and I didn't see the explosive twist at the end. The characters were well developed and really added to the unpredictability.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC, this is my first time reading a book by this author.
I do have to say I enjoyed the book as it had introduced the “issue” early in the novel and built it up from there. I have to say about halfway through this book I had a good idea of what happened and found the ending somewhat predictable. I liked Maggie a lot and empathized with her character.
This book had a strong plot and it had a twist, I like when books reveal more and more a little at a time. Detective Dan did add a sense of humor to the novel and I found some of his comments and interrogations good but comical. The author did a good job of highlighting his thoughts vs what he was saying in an interview and/or interrogation.
I am not a huge fan of novels based on UK because a lot of the language and phrasing isn’t “American-ized” so I found myself Googling certain British slang. This book had a strong introduction and good supporting characters. There are some triggers around suicide and mental health. This was a good read and I will definitely read another book by this author in the detective Dan series.

I’m not easily stunned, but this one did it. A twist out of left field. Well, to be honest the clues were there but I wasn’t expecting it. Other than the detective, I am not sure I liked or related to any of the other characters. But I had an idea early on who may have killed and I needed to know if I was right and kept reading. I actually read this in about a day. The writing style made it easy to read and the plot moved along from one suspect to another.
It seemed to me to be a little bit of a study into how well you can know another person. I was slightly concerned with how quickly Maggie thought the worst in her husband of 25 years and how she jumped to conclusions on a lot of the happenings in the book.
It is part family drama and part murder mystery, with the murder mystery taking a slight back seat to the family drama. This is book six in the detective Dan Riley series, but is easily a stand alone book, as there is more of a focus on the family in the book, then the police solving the crime. But every fourth or fifth chapter is from Dan’s point of view. This was a little bit of a change from the normal murder mysteries I’ve read.
If you like both murder mysteries and family dramas, you should give this mesh of the two a try.
TRIGGER WARNING: suicide, mental health
Maggie and Len are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. But as Magies pops into the loft to grab a urprise for her husband, she discovers a woman's scarf. Initially she suspects he may have had an affair, but then she sees a photo of a murdered woman wearing the same scarf...
The Lie In Our Marriage is a murder mystery (the 6th book to feature DI Dan Riley), as well as a domestic drama and psychological thriller, set in the UK. I have previously reviewed The Night Of The Party from the series but each works as a standalone novel.
Maggie and Len's love has grown and strengthened over the last 25 years and now they are looking forward to becoming grandparents. I was surprised at how quickly Maggie jumped believing the worst about Len but her fears and doubts felt authentic. After so many years together, I thought she should have been braver about speaking to him although I feel that she was more afraid of the truth than of him harming her.
Meanwhile we see some chapters from Dan Riley's perspective as he attempts to solve the murder case. He has a good working relationship with his colleagues and in his home life is expecting his second child.
Dan's easy to like personality makes the reader want him to solve the crime. However, this contrasts with our sympathy for Maggie. She has frantic thoughts due to her mental trauma from her mother's suicide when she was a child, as well as her fears about her own and her son's mental health.
There are some great twists in the book which I was expecting but still enjoyed. I loved the satirical look at modern social media 'celebrities' and Dan's scathing opinions. The character of Maggie is wonderfuly written and her emotions were easy to understand and relate to. The final lines almost had me in tears!
The Lie In Our Marriage is a gripping thriller and mystery.
