Thank you for allowing me to read this book as an ARC, I absolutely loved, LOVED, this book, I had never read anything by the author before and I looked up other books and realised this was book 6 of DCI Dan Riley, I would never have known and this can be read as a stand alone book. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put the book down, story was so well written was such a pleasure to read, just twisted and turned all the way through the book and I loved the references to reality and insta celebs throughout the book, so true and raised a few giggles. Would really recommend this book as such a captivating read and I will be reading the 5 other books before this.
4.5 stars!
The Lie in Our Marriage is the first book I’ve read by Anna-Lou Weatherley and it certainly won’t be the last!
The story cycles between chapters told by Maggie, a local wife and mother, and Detective Dan Riley, following the murder of a young Instagram influencer.
This book was a little more of a slow burn to start, but about 40% in it really picked up and then I could not put it down! The twists were interesting and one in particular was truly surprising to me.
I really enjoyed Anna’s writing style and thought she did a great job with character development, specifically with Maggie. She kept me interested and on my toes, but also pulled at my empathy and emotions and I often found myself truly feeling for the characters.
Overall I think this is a well-written story and may very well be one of my favorites of the year!
As a side note, it does say on GoodReads that this is book #6 in the Detective Dan Riley series but I did not feel like I missed anything by not reading the others before. It did feel like a stand-alone story to me so I would absolutely not let that deter you if you’re on the fence.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Anna-Lou Weatherley for allowing me to enjoy this ARC!
Firstly, thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and Anna Lou-Weatherley for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
What can I say wow this book is one of the best thrillers I’ve read in a long time it hooked me from the very first page! It kept glued to my kindle and reading well into the night! I am an avid reader of the author and I was ecstatic to get my hands on this new book and it definitely didn’t disappoint!
I would highly recommend/encourage everyone to read this book it’s an amazing action packed thriller with plenty of twists and turns throughout! This is definitely a book to be read in 2023! I would rate this book 5/5.
The Lie in Our Marriage by Anna Lou-Weatherley is the sixth book in the Detective Dan Riley series. I requested the ARC on NetGalley not knowing that it is part of a series. Damn, I loved this one so much that I have added the rest of the books to my TBR!
My goodness, I was so engrossed in reading it; I did not expect the story to end in this manner. There are plenty of red herrings and an unexpected twist. Oh my goodness, it was mind-blowing!
The story has a dual narrative—Maggie’s in the 3rd POV and Dan’s in the 1st POV. It worked well in drawing me in.
Not just the lead characters, but even the minor characters are well-sketched. I really loved Dan’s persona. He is charming, smart, a thorough professional, and uncompromising in his investigation.
Maggie and Len’s relationship is so beautiful, especially the part about him leaving Hershey’s kisses on her side table every night.
Even though the initial pace is a little slow, it picks up quite soon. I loved the fast pace. It’s just perfect for the genre.
It’s slightly predictable in bits, but that doesn’t dampen the reading pleasure.
There were a few spelling and grammatical errors. But this is an uncorrected ARC, and I hope the editor/publisher would rectify them before the book is out.
The Lie in Our Marriage is a brilliant psychological thriller. Readers who love a typical whodunnit will enjoy this tremendously.
Thanks to Bookoutre via NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this novel. All opinions expressed are my own.

During her 25th anniversary party with her husband Len,Maggie discovers a designer scarf with blood on it hidden away in the loft. It isn’t her scarf and it isn’t her daughter’s. Maggie thinks Len may be having an affair. Then a local influencer is found murdered and the only cloying item missing on her dead body from her last Instagram post was the scarf Maggie found.
I like the series but I thought this was one of the weaker entries. I sort of sniffed out the guilty party early on, just wasn’t sure about motive. There were some unexpected twists for sure, and I cruised through it in a day. Not her best, but still good. I look forward to continuing on with this series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the free ARC. My first by this author, but was not disappointed. Although I figured out what was happening, it was still a very good book. Three stars only because it was a bit redundant at times.
A 21 year old Instagram model and influencer has been murdered.
Len and Maggie celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary the same week as the murder in the same town that they are all from. Could they possibly know what happened? Or not.
Many twists, turns and suspects.
This was a great book. The reason I didn’t rate it over 3.5 stars is because I felt it dragged on where it didn’t need to. Many conversations frustrated me as the thoughts from some characters would go on for pages before the rest of the conversation would continue.
I still loved the suspense and mystery presented in this book.
Thank you to Net Galley, the publisher and Author for allowing me to read and review this amazing book!
Detective Dan Riley #6
On a warm spring evening, guests gather is a perfectly manicured garden to celebrate Maggie and Len's twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Maggie leans against the apple tree in the sprawling grounds of her beautiful home. She watches her fun-loving husband and darling children and her heart swells with pride. As the joyful party atmosphere disappears into the night, close by, the lifeless body of a young woman is pulled from a river.
This story is told from Maggie and Dan's perspectives. This well written story is filled with red herrings. It's intricately woven and filled with secrets and lies. I was gripped from the first chapter. The story is current with all the social media platforms and current tv shows. The pace is slow to begin with. There are parts that are quite predictable. The characters have been well fleshed out. This is a great addition to the Dan Riley series. This book could be read as a standalone.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #AnnaLouWeatherly for my ARC of #The LieOnOurMarriage in exchange for an honest review.
Maggie discovers there's a lot she doesn't know about her husband Len, even after 25 years of marriage in this twisty murder mystery. Detective Dan Riley is investigating the murder of a young woman, a woman who at one time wore the scarf Maggie's just found hidden away in her attic, How did Len know her, did he kill her? This is told from several perspectives, pulling you in with the different POVs to question things the way the characters do. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Good storytelling makes this a good read.
thank you to netgalley for allowing me to read this before its official release in exchange for an honest review.
(slight spoilers?)
i cant lie, this book disappointed me a tinyyyyyy bit. it starts off strong, the very first scene just dives right in and you think its going to continue to be a wild and crazy book all the way through, but its NOT. i feel like you could cut out most of the middle of the book and everything would still make sense. it was so slowpaced up until the end, which is something i personally despise!! get on with it!! (maybe my silly adhd brain has something to do with that lol) however, the ending was pretty good (a little predictable but still good) and everything came together decently. THE LITERAL VERY LAST SENTENCE MADE ME ALMOST SOB OH MY GOD!!!!! justice for len, he deserved so much better. my heart goes out to him!
3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 for the ending!
I feel the book was slow for the first 30% or so and I had difficulty staying interested in it. But once it got interesting it was a great book! Well written and I did enjoy the book after the slow start! Had my heart racing a few times…. Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley and Anna-Lou Weatherly for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Wow. Now that's how you write a thriller! Pretty neat and interesting!
Maggie is celebrating her 25th year anniversary with her loving husband. Everything was going well, her children are having fun and she couldn't ask for more. She's happy. Until a body has been found in the river. Then her life life started to unravel. Does she really know her husband?
A typical domestic thriller which made fun by the writing and the awesome twists and turns. Don't miss out on this.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for granting me the advanced copy!
This took me a bit to get really into it. Once I got more engrossed in it, the pace picked up a bit and I did find myself enjoying it more than I thought I would. Although some of it was predictable, other parts weren't. However, this isn't one that's going to stick out for me. For those that don't read everyday, you may find this more memorable than I did.Three Stars.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

Maggie and Len have been happily married for 25 years. Maggie heads upstairs to grab a special gift for Len, but while doing so, finds a pink designer scarf stained with blood. Not sure whose it is or what to do with it, she leaves it there. But the perfume scent coming from it smells slightly familiar. A neighbor of theirs uses that exact same scent! Soon, news reports come in that a young woman’s body has been found near a river in their area. As news broadcasts continue, pictures of the young woman are shown and in one particular picture she is wearing the exact same pink scarf Maggie had found in their house. Paranoia sets in for Maggie as she finds porn sites in her husband’s laptop, along with a video of the deceased woman and online searches for how to dispose of a dead body!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I loved the fact that it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time!!!I couldn’t wait to see how the story played out! This book is number six in the Detective Dan Riley series. I will definitely be going back to read the other books in the series!!! One lesson this book shows you is to never make assumptions! You never know whose life or lives may be destroyed in doing so!
This book will be released January 18, 2023.

Excellent another wonderful book from one of my favourite authors Anna-Lou Weatherley. Whenever I see a book by this author I do not even read the blurb, I know I will be in for a treat. The story is told from the POV's of Dan and Maggie and receive insight into their personalities and how the events which are occurring are affecting their lives, so many secrets and betrayals are going to be revealed which ramp of the suspence and the tension within the pages providing us with a cracker of a tale that had me completely consumed. Another fantastic book to end the year with and one I highly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for a copy of the book in return for an honest review. 5 stars
25 years Len and Maggie have been married. 25 glorious years. Maggie has been busy preparing their celebratory event.
However at the end of the night, a body is pulled from the river nearby. Who is she? Why was she murdered?
This was a great read.
The plot was predictable and I guessed who it was. Hoping I was wrong.
But I did enjoy the style of writing and I was moved to tears.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for proving me with an aARC of this novel.
This stunningly imaginative thriller about a murder of an influencer that hits far to "close to home" for the main character in this novel. This is the most thought-provoking I have ever read in this genre (domestic psychological thriller).. Numerous times while reading this novel I was forced to imagine what I would do if I was in the main character's situation. Told from numerous points of view, my favorite character was the uniquely compassionate detective (personally I would enjoy if his character became a series) this story is a "must read" that will have you burning the midnight oil in order to discover what happened. Genius discoveries and labyrinth twists and turns contained within!
I enjoyed The Lie in Our Marriage. I'd characterize it as a crime fiction/mystery book. Apart from the plotline, I found the characters hilarious. One character, in particular, reminds me of someone on Love Island. It makes for some funny interactions. Thanks for the advance review copy.
Tense chilling page turner kept me turning the pages reading late into the night.Well written great characters plot with twists and turns. An author to follow.#netgalley #bookoutture
5 stars! Excellent thriller! I loved all the cliffhangers that kept me turning pages. The characters were developed really well and I felt like I knew them. Shocking twists around every corner kept me wanting more. I highly recommend this book!
