Prayer Warrior by Traci Wooden-Carlisle follows Ms V. a Christian Counselor. She is loved by all her students and fights in battles (praying) in the Spiritual Realm and intercedes for them. I liked the concept just wasn’t excited about the delivery it felt a bit forced.
This is 100% an evangelical religious story. I personally had problems with getting into it. I really was hoping it was more like the blurb a fantasy based book with quieter Christian tones. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the strong dialogue- it’s just in a fantasy fiction book I don’t tend to expect them as strongly as they were presented here and for me if I wanted that as pleasure reading, I could just go read my Bible. I felt it was very heavy and over the top. Some readers may enjoy that type of writing, and while I respect it - it just wasn’t something I could get into. For me- sometimes less is more especially in fantasy and for me personally this was just too much.
Thank you to Netgalley for the audio arc. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was a really good book. I had never heard of either author, but the blurb was intriguing, and I thought it was appropriate for the season of life in which I find myself. I found the characters likable and relatable, and I was invested in the outcome. Everything was not 100% clear for me, but that was okay. The audio book narrator did an excellent job of interpreting the story. If this were a series, I would seek out the other books/audio books. Great job!
This was like following around a giant in the faith. I was encouraged and inspired!
The ending felt a little abrupt, but I also appreciated the the way it ended (I am trying to not give away any spoilers). I felt the ending was a gift to help Christians overcome their fears of the unknown.
Blessings Be With You
An inspirational tree filled with pertinent bible verses for everyday situations. An exceptional woman that used her talents and love of God to help those in need of spiritual guidance.
Mrs. V is a counselor at a Christian school. She helps students, parents and even staff with their spiritual needs and real life incidents. With her compassionate ways and her excellent advice she helps those in need to follow the right path.
At night she is a prayer warrior for those children on the brink of losing faith being attacked by demons. She wields her sword for Christ at night saving souls in her dreams.
I enjoyed this story. The narrator did a wonderful job on the narration for the audio book It was easy to understand and pleasant to listen to. The scriptures were inspirational and thought provoking. I would recommend this book.
Thanks to Traci Wooden-Carlisle and D. Tina Batten for writing a good story, to Anita Faye Thomas for her great narration , to Books Go Social audio for publishing it, and to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the audio book to listen to and review.
I understand that this book was trying to do. I just didn’t think it was going to be so heavy-handed. I doubled in religions, so I thought this would be interesting to pull me into Christianity, but unfortunately this book did not mess with me personally as I felt that the standards and the way things were handled in this book, didn’t match up very well as a girl was told that she needed to take responsibility for the way she was dressed, because it would influence how men perceived her and would get distracted if they saw her collarbone which personally to me I don’t vibe with so that is why I’m giving this a low rating. It wasn’t a bad book. I think someone who supports Christianity more would enjoy this a lot and it was very well written. I just think it wasn’t personally meant for me as a target audience.
This was cool nothing like I usually pick up but Glad I did hopefully I can get more of these I will be listening to this again
2.5 rounded up
This book follows Ms. V, a Christian counsellor who works at Hope Christian Academy through the day. At night, she deals with spiritual realm as a prayer warrior. This book is an unapologetically Christian story, but I will say fell a lot less into the fantasy genre for me than I had initially anticipated given the blurb for this book. I expected this book would be a lot more fantasy-based, with equal amounts of her as counsellor and fantasy elements (which I thought would be a lot more fleshed out), but the book is primarily about a Christian counsellor who is very well loved by her students and colleagues helping people through their various troubles.
This was very well written and the narrator was great at bringing the characters (especially Ms V) to life. The dialogue sounded very much like the kinds of things you would hear in strongly Christian circles and therefore quite realistic in some respects.
It has a *heavy* evangelical leaning and I have to say I do not personally fall within that theological bracket so a of lot of it was not to my taste and fell very flat - particularly talks of purity rings and pledges to fathers (vowing to hold virginity sacred or God will be unhappy), the only gay character in the book being basically a child predator (big dislike for this part of the storyline though the way it came up was actually a bit plot twist-ey and I thought we were going down an equally bad but different storyline) amongst other things.
As a note: I listened to the audiobook version of this book which means I only got one version of the ending, though apparently the paperback and digital editions have an alternative ending as well. I would be interested to see what the other versions were and how it changed the storyline.
TLDR; If you fall within the evangelical/charismatic or Christian conservative audience, this will be an excellent read for you. It didn't hit the spot for me sadly, though the end actually threw me for a LOOP I was not expecting where the story went ,so for that I am rounding up not down from 2.5 despite all the above.
<i>I was provided with a complimentary copy of this audiobook by BooksGoSocial Audio via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, which I leave voluntarily.
Struggling with this review as I just couldn't get into the book. I couldn't warm to the narrator at all and that spoiled it for me entirely. Overall I liked the idea of the story but it was just too religious for me.
Warriors Come Out to PRAY
This was a great book.
As someone who reads only Christian books during the entire month of December each year, I don't normally read Christian fiction.
In fact, this was one of the few books I have read in this genre ever.
I thought it was a nice story all-in-all, and had some great morals and Christian values.
I would recommend to those who would like to try a non-non-fiction for a try!
3.9/5
The Prayer Warrior by D. Tina Batten & Traci Wooden-Carlisle, narrated by Anita Faye Thomas. It is a religious book featuring a prayerful woman who is also a children's counselor. Miss V works in a school where teenagers come to her to air their personal issues that are affecting their lives. She offers a listening ear, a crying shoulder, and pieces of advice to teens. Moreover, she offers them spiritual counsel and uplifting words. She prays for the young people, including a grumpy employee on the staff.
There are many things that I enjoyed concerning the book. Firstly, the story covers real issues that affect teenagers, families, and employees. Her students are suffering from peer pressure issues, sexual assault, broken families, and teenage crises. Another quality is the adequately developed characters. I grew to like Miss V. Her attitude towards Myra, who was always in a bad mood, was calm and amiable. She stands by Myra when her father passes on, and she has been heartbroken. Apart from that, the dedication to showing love and kindness to all is touching. Bible verses are quoted to emphasize the idea of blessings, the power of trusting in God and serving others.
I did not find anything to dislike or improve in the book. It was well written and narrated with impressive quality sound.
My rating for The Prayer Warrior audiobook is 5 out of 5 stars. The book was uplifting, with many lessons on religion and trust.
Religious people will enjoy this book. Lay people and teen councilors will cherish the information therein.
This is well worth a listen. This is a fictional uplifting Christian story of a school councillor who depends on God for her strength and guidance, the students that she supports and the friend that she means so much too. Thank you to TawCarlisle and NetGalley for the audio ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.
