A super sweet friends to lovers rom com. A pair of childhood friends reunite and decide to tackle a house fixer upper in order to boost their savings and each buy their own homes in the future. A lot of hard work hangs in the balance as Freya tries to tamp down her growing feelings for Charlie. Freya is a true type A personality who has their fixer upper deadlines scheduled only to be surprised by her own feelings of wanting a home as much as she’d initially wanted the funds to escape her endless house sharing nightmares. Very cute read! I was provided this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

This was a super cute, easy read. There were also some funny bits and a dog - which is always a winner. I really enjoyed the house renovation storyline especially as I could totally relate having done similar myself (minus the housemate). Although based on that I did struggle a bit to believe the speed and ease with which they were able to fix the house up not to mention live in it whilst doing so. I fell a little in love with main character Charlie, which is perhaps why I found Freya a little annoying at times and unreasonably mean to him. That said I really did enjoy this feel good, PG romance.

I absolutely adore Emily Kerr's writing! It is so quirky, outrageously funny, and really can make you fall in love! In her latest submission to us lovers of romance, she reunites old school mates Freya and Charlie. They just both happen to be struggling to own their own homes, so of course, they decide to go in together on a "fixer upper." This sets up the reader for a wonderful ride of swoon worthy moments that will have you sad to leave their story at the end of the book.

I wish that every romance book was as fun a read as I have had from the past couple of Emily Kerr stories. There really is not anything more she could have added/done to make this any more perfect. You experience the ups and downs of trying to adult, making a home, and finding your ever after. Each character has little quirks, some that make you realize..."THIS IS ME!" A very relatable and enjoyable tale. Run, don't walk, to get Her Fixer Upper!

Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for the ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

This was a nice and easy read with some loveable characters, especially Arthur and Ted who should be protected at all costs.

While I enjoyed reading Her Fixer Upper, I just didn't love it. I felt like I was waiting for more to happen and it just didn't. I wasn't really routing for our pair either, I think their could have been more lead up to their relationship to make me more attached to them as a pair.

I think I'll need to try another book by Emily Kerr again in the future because I did love their writing style, maybe this story just wasn't for me.

This is an excellent book by Emily, very amusing in places. It was nice to have a different subject that the book was about too.

Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collins UK and One More Chapter for providing me with an ARC of this super cute romcom by Emily Kerr.

I loved the chemistry between Freya and Charlie who are old school friends that reconnect in a pub by chance. Their reunion results in them buying a run down house together as neither of them can afford to obtain a mortgage on their own.

This is a really sweet friends to lovers story which I really enjoyed. The house renovation details were really realistic and there are some lovely side characters too. My favourites being Freya's Grandad and Ted the dog.

History teacher Freya is dreaming of buying her own home but struggling to get anywhere near enough cash together for a deposit. Meanwhile, her landlord’s behaviour means she has to get out of her house share immediately and ends up on her friend’s sofa. As chance would have it, she bumps into her old school friend Charlie, who is in exactly the same predicament as she is. Before they know it, they’ve agreed to buy a house together as friends, do it up, sell it on and use the profits and position on the mortgage ladder to get themselves their own homes.

That is the plan anyway.. but the renovations of Oak Tree Cottage turn out to not be as straight forward as Freya hoped – and the ‘friends with mortgage benefits’ situation starts to get increasingly complicated too!

Her Fixer Upper is a lovely romantic comedy story with some great moments of tension between the two main characters. Some of it plodded along a little bit for me, but I think overall it is a 3.5 stars!

A pleasant easy to read story for a rainy day or a sunny day, although it does not challenge you or lead to discussion it passes the time nicely. It does realistically show how difficult renovations can be and REALLY does not glamourise the process as many of this style story can do, in fact the ending is a lesson in making sure all paperwork is done first!! A very important lesson for us all. I would however recommend this story as it is quite heartwarming.
Thank you Netgalley for the A.R.C.

3.5 stars.

The vibes:
- childhood best friends reconnected
- house renovations
- slow burn
- cutie dog, Ted 🐶

The concept:

Freya is an 8th grade teacher who is frustrated, trying to buy a home but can’t get approved for a mortgage. She runs into her childhood friend, Charlie, who is down in the dumps because he got rejected for a mortgage. He’s in the same predicament as Freya- unable to afford buying a house on a solo income. When he makes a comment that the loan officer told him it would be easier to obtain a loan if he were in a relationship and applied with another individual, Freya’s best friend jokingly tells them that they should join together to buy a house together. After a scary incident occurs at Freya’s apartment that night- she’s desperate to get out of there and into a home of her own. She’s so desperate that she may just try to convince Charlie to buy a house with her.

My thoughts:

Humor made me laugh out loud. I loved reading about the house renovations and all the work that Freya and Charlie put into the house. The plot took a different path than I expected but I loved feeling unsure of what would happen next. This one is the slowest of slow burns - probably the slowest burn I’ve ever read. I wanted to shake Charlie and Freya so many times for them to just get it together and kiss already!!!! It was a really cute read and it just felt so cozy and relaxing to read. I enjoyed it so much. The only thing that I would have enjoyed is a bit more romance throughout. Because it’s not a dual pov- I had difficulty reading Charlie’s intentions and wanted more of him because I liked his character a lot.

Releases May 19, 2023.

Her Fixer Upper by Emily Kerr is so delightful! This is a sweet and very funny story of two childhood friends, Charlie and Freya, who meet after years apart. Due to the market and costs, they decide to buy a house together and fix it up since it is all they could afford. While they work to fix up the house, Freya begins to fall for Charlie. I love how this romance grows. Perfect setting and characters!

Such a sweet romcom!

Emily Ker gives us a wonderful cast of characters in this one—we have a main character that allows fear to run her life, a reunion with a childhood bff who is fun a calm and adds some much needed balance to Freya’s controlled structure, an octogenarian and his little dog Ted, among others.

I loved Emily’s writing style it was fun, flowed well, and is the perfect light-hearted read to immerse you into the world of DIY.

I absolutely loved Freya, she’s a secondary school teacher so she must have the patience of a saint!, she’s just delightful character I loved so much.

The real life parallels about the state of the housing market and the cost of living are spot on too!

Freya wants her own home so much and she’s doing her best to save for a deposit but she setting nowhere fast, that’s until she’s bumps into her old best friend from primary school Charlie.

They decide to get a mortgage together and it’s a proper “Fixer Upper”.

I loved this, it was fun, really down to earth and realistic which a lot of romance books aren’t.

It’s the perfect Friends to Lovers book.

This light hearted book will make a great holiday read this Summer. Two old school friends meet after many years and make the rash decision to buy an old house together as neither of them can afford to get on the housing ladder as a single person. No great surprises with the plot but an entertaining read throughout.

Loved this book in so many ways. Freya wants to buy a house, but she can’t get a mortgage, after bumping into childhood friend Charlie, she finds out he’s in the same position. She puts a proposal to him about both clubbing together to buy their first home. They pick a fixer upper and it’s fun reading about them on their journey.

Both main are lovely, Freya is a lovable character and Charlie is a cheeky chap. They are brilliant together. The setting sounds fabulous and the house is so funny to read about.

Highly recommend this easy read, read it in a day, the words just flow.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

Freya can't afford to buy her own house despite saving up. Then a throwaway comment from a friend sends her down the road of sharinga mortgage with Charlie her best friend from young. What could possibly go wrong? Freya is about to discover that all the rules in the world can't stop fate.

This was such a good read. I really enjoyed the story and the characters are so likeable. Ted is probably my favourite though. The plot is easy to read but keeps you turning the page. The ending was so perfect for the story and I liked how it came together. A fun read with a cute and funny story.

Just what I needed! This is a lighthearted comic romance with great characters and a fun storyline.
Teacher Freya despairs of ever getting on the property ladder until she meets old school friend Charlie. Charlie has just been declined a mortgage so they decide to pool their resources and buy a fixer upper together.
Set in a beautiful area of the country, this story left me with a warmth of feeling to carry me through a gloomy day.

Freya dreams of having her own house. She is currently renting a room and it's not good. No matter how much she saves, she never seems closer to her goal.

Charlie is struggling to get a loan, despite a steady income. They were childhood friends but didn't see each other for a long time. They bump into each other on a night out and decide to buy and renovate a house together.

The house is in bad shape, but there is something about it, that draws them both in. But renovation takes work. And spending all that time their friendship grows and soon transforms into something more.

The premise was a bit hard to get into, but once they started the renovation, it get very good.

I got the ARC, all thoughts are my own
