A bus filled with children and four teacher set off for a day trip. They’re parents waiting for their return at school but the bus never returns. How can an entire class of four teachers and 10 children disappear?
This book was so fast paced and hard to put down. I had so much fun trying to figure out who was behind the disappearance of the bus filled with children and teachers, which kept me guessing all the way up to the end when all was revealed.
At first, I really struggled with all of the POVs and trying to remember who was who as there was so much going on but the more that I read on, the more that I got used to the multiple POVs and started remembering who was who as there were so many characters. I also loved how one of the parents were a same sex couple.
I really loved and enjoyed Jackie’s writing and how she brought the characters to life. However, there were some things which stopped this from being a 5⭐️ such as some things being left vague towards the end and I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending as I thought it could have ended a better way.

* Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins, One More Chapter for the opportunity to read this book! *
This was something different to what I usually read and it was very exciting. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
The start of this book had me hooked but unfortunately it went down hill from there. There were way too many POVs, none of which I found particularly interesting or connected with at all and the investigation process started to get quite repetitive to the point I really struggled to push through to find out what happened at the end. Overall the premise was great just didn't quite do it for me.
Ten children in class 3B, along with their four teachers vanish when returning from an all-day field trip. The parents, because of their social status, expect to receive ransom demands. What happens instead is an additional threat to reveal secrets that some of the parents thought were buried.
There are quite a few characters in this latest book by Jackie Kabler, but I found it fairly easy to keep them all straight. The story is also told from quite a few different perspectives, so a reader definitely has to pay attention.
But even though it has a good premise, it just didn’t seem to reach its potential for me. Moreover, I didn’t feel a lot of empathy with any of the characters, so I never felt fully invested in the story or its outcome. Because of so many characters and perspectives, I think that affected the pace of the story, which made it a little harder to fully engage with.
However, The Vanishing of Class 3B is still a decent read for a lazy summer day.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
I really enjoyed this book and the strory had me gripped from the first page
I wish the author all the best with this book
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book
The premise intrigued me. A bus full of children and their teachers vanishes into thin air after a day trip. Unfortunately the story lost its momentum after a good start. It is told by several POV and so it gets a bit repetitive. The parents are all well off, some of them are even famous, so they soon expect a ransom note. It seems somebody knows a secret about one of them and wants to be payed to keep silent. But of course it turns out not only one has a secret. So several parents think they are the target. The story jumps between different persons and their stories. We also see the police doing their work. It felt for a long time that nothing happened. None of the characters is likable or interesting. The secrets are, except for one which is amazingly the only secret to be immaterial, not worth all the hassle. Towards the end it is a lot of telling and less showing.
The idea is good but it is told in a very slow and repetitive way. In my opinion the reason for all this does not justify this extreme action. It’s a clear case of overreaction and overall the whole story is a bit bonkers and over the top. I am a bit disappointed because I was so intrigued by the blurb that I was looking forward reading it. But it did not fulfill my expectations.
The author had almost a brilliant idea for a story but unfortunately the almost means only three stars from me.
A lot of characters who aren’t distinctive enough to be easy to remember but I did eventually get a sort of who’s who in my mind. A very interesting read for three quarters of the book but once the reveal started it was too ridiculous for words.
I think the clever nub of a book plan could have been developed much better and that’s what was most disappointing as it seems like the waste of an opportunity.
An interesting premise that ultimately fell flat for me. With so many characters, I struggled to really connect with the story and it took me quite a long time to get through. I enjoy when a thriller truly shocked me, but I saw most of the twists coming here. Overall, not the worst but not one I would reach for again.
A nail biting, anxiety building physcological thriller! A class of 10 children and 4 teachers are on a day trip excursion but when they don't return the parents and police are baffled. What makes it more puzzling is that they seem to have just disappeared into thin air. The story is told from multiple points of view, which I think keeps it engaging and cleverly informative. The parents had me shaking my head with all the lies, affairs and secrets that don't seem believable. While the ending was a little disappointing as I was waiting for more of a surprise. The story was tension filled I think because just the thought of 10 missing children would have anyone on edge. I loved the authors writing style and would read more by this author.
This was another triumph by @officialjackiekabler
A book full secrets, revenge and menace that had me flying through the pages I just couldn't stop. This is the perfect thriller that had me intrigued instantly with its twisty narrative and multiple motives. This kept me up well into the night as I needed to know the outcome.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I don't particularly love this cover, but eh.
The story though was pretty decent. While it was mostly predictable, and there were a TON of POVs, the story was told as procedural. The book takes place when a bus full of children goes missing. Honestly, as a parent, that is my worst nightmare and probably why I requested this one so fast. I do love to torture myself but also it makes me pray to whatever is out there that this never happens to me in real life.
If you're looking for something to read, this was a solid three star read for me and I'd recommend it if you're in that suspense-y mood.
The Vanishing of Class 3B follows a primary school class and their teachers on a day trip that goes terribly wrong. As the parents wait to collect their children, they realize that the class and their teachers are missing.
The premise of the book is intriguing and had a lot of potential, but I found it to be quite tame and predictable. The plot was fairly straightforward, and I guessed most of what was going to happen from the first few chapters. I was hoping for more suspense and surprises, but unfortunately, the story fell flat.
One of the major issues I had with the book was the characters. I found most of them to be quite annoying and unlikable. The parents were portrayed as wealthy and privileged, and I did feel empathy towards them but as we go through the story there are many times where I wanted to bang their heads together, as none of them appeared to have much sense! Their children are missing, and they claim to want to do anything to help get them back as soon as possible except it seems to actually help the police to find them.
The teachers were also quite bland and didn't have much personality or depth. The ending perhaps shows them to be a little cleverer than they appeared but there wasn’t anything outstanding about any of them. Additionally, the police were a complete farce! The children are missing, there is a communication that tells them what to do but they don't appear to want to do the obvious and chose a different response instead.
There were a few interesting plot points that kept me reading, but overall, the book didn't leave much of an impression on me. It was a quick read, but I didn't feel invested in the story or the characters. The resolution of the mystery was also quite predictable, and I wasn't surprised by the outcome, despite the many twists and turns.
Despite my lukewarm feelings towards the book, I do think it would be an enjoyable read for those who are looking for a light and easy mystery. The book is well-written, and the pacing is good, making it a quick and entertaining read. However, if you're looking for a gripping and suspenseful thriller, this may not be the book for you.
In conclusion, while The Vanishing of Class 3B didn't quite meet my expectations, it is still a decent read for those who enjoy light mysteries. It has a good pace and is well-written, but the characters and plot could have been developed further. If you're looking for a quick and easy read, give it a try, but don't expect too much from it.
A missing child… every parents worst nightmare
A whole class of missing children… a villages worst nightmare
There was something so intriguing about this storyline, a school mini bus goes missing on a trip back from the zoo. All children and teachers missing, no sign of where they or the bus went. Back in the village increasingly panicked parents and a head teacher at an absolute loss of what to do.
I loved the building of the plot line, I thought it was great how we too were kept in the dark for so long and it did take me a while to work out what has happened and where they’d all vanished to.
However, it felt like the first 75% of the book was well written, well thought out, developed and progressed with skill… some of the revelations and secrets were amazing and made it such a page turner, but the last 25% felt rushed, anticlimactic and honestly just didn’t add up.
Overall I enjoyed it, and would read more from the author, but did find the background to the storyline (which comes out at the end) to be a strange choice of backstory, it just didn’t add up or make sense.
I enjoyed the first part of this book immensely, I just felt it lost me a little after it was revealed what was happening and who was behind the missing children. The reasons didn’t really ring true with me and it felt a little disconnected from the story, but it was still a very good read.
What an epic thriller The Vanishing of Class 3B is! A very different take from the run of the mill type thriller and I absolutely devoured every single page. You really become invested in these families whose children have been taken and nobody knows how or indeed why. Perhaps there is a link to the families or is it just a straight forward kidnap for ransom?
I chopped and changed as to who I thought might be involved and let me tell you, until it's laid out on a plate I did not guess who the kidnapper/s might be. Everyone of the parents seems to have a secret that they are desperate not to tell. They begin to lose faith in the police and seemingly go rogue and reveal things to each other that they never thought they'd ever say out loud. But whose secret is the worst? Who amongst them has the biggest secret?
The tense nature of the parents relationships is told brilliantly well. We see them stand together and fall apart. A well crafted thriller that will keep you up needing to know who on earth has carried out this dastardly deed and will we find out why? Was it really worth it?
A truly brilliant read that kept me rapidly page turning and left me thinking "Wow, that was exceptional" A worthy 5 star read.
3☆ It was an ok read
I really struggled with this one. It took me so long to get into the story I nearly gave up reading it.
But I wanted to know what happened to the children.
To be honest there was way too many characters to keep track of who was who it was so confusing. Which meant I had no connections with any of the characters. Including the parents and the police. To be honest none of the parents were particularly likeable anyway, and i didn't have much faith in the police either.
There was lots of secrets, lies and twists to this story. But like I said I struggled to keep track.
This wasn't one of my favourite reads and I absolutely love a good Thriller. The premise of the book sounded sooo good. It just wasn't the book for me I'm afraid.
That said this is just my personal opinion and others will really enjoy The Vanishing of Class 3B.
Over the years I've taught many a Class 3B
So you can understand why this book appealed to me!
I couldn't wait to read it to discover what occurred
To miss out on it would have been just too absurd!
Having finished it now, I'm happy to recommend it to you
A fascinating read full of surprise twists, too.
Ten children and four members of staff on a minibus go
But what happened to them then their parents don't know.
How can a class and their teachers vanish out of sight?
Tension, fears, what is their plight?
Who is responsible? Why take them - and where?
Will they be looked after? Should they despair?
A brilliant psychological thriller to keep you on the edge of your seat
Turning the pages till your reading is complete.
There are secrets being kept and twists galore,
Keeping you guessing and wanting to know more.
For my complementary copy I say a huge thank you
As I share with you this, my honest review.
➡️ Book
When I read the Synopsis, I was very interested. It had these vibes of crime show, and I wanted to jump into the story and learn what really happened and who was behind it.
And did I get it? Kind of, yes. I wasn't disappointed, then again, I had read a previous book of Jackie Kabler, and I could tell the author's voice and style of writing. Which I really liked.
➡️ Plot
The book follow the disappearance of a bus full of children and their teachers. Of course, since they don't return from the trip, things get into action. The police finds the bus and one teacher.
What is the motivation? Is it for ransom? Is it a sick game?
Who was responsible?
It got me guessing from the very first moment questions were made.
With some twists and turns, to move the story, some expected situations that, to me, helped balance the situation.
➡️ Characters
Did I like the characters? Well, that's a tricky question, because they were diverse, and I didn't always emphasize for them (except the childrens), but that may be because I was questioning every action and thought.
The fact that the book follows multiple characters gave us the opportunity to speculate and understand the various points of views.
When you send your kids off on a school trip you them to come home right? The Vanishing of Class 3B is every parents nightmare, they are off on a trip and don’t make it home. The parents are rightfully worried sick, the headteacher can’t get in contact with the teachers who were taking the kids on the trip and as the hours tick by the police are eventually called in.
This story is told from multiple point of views, from the various parents, the police, to the children and someone called the visitor. Once a random note comes in to the parents it becomes clear that the children were targeted when a secret was hinted at in the message.
I guessed that their was a secret affair between some of the parents you could tell that from the very beginning but what I didn’t guess was the other secrets that came out, and also who was truly behind it all – without giving any spoilers I did guess who was involved but I didn’t see the twist as to the who, the what and the why
Absolutely brilliant!
Very well thought out, I guessed some bits and others I didn't. Thoroughly enjoyed this high energy, fast paced story.
Great how it all linked together so well.
Thabk you netgalley and the publishers and the author Jackie Kabler for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion
