Wow!! I absolutely loved this story!! It was definitely intriguing and a fast paced read!! Every reader is different, but I really enjoyed this book! The characters were excellent and the book very well written.
3.5 stars but will round up for promising story. The Vanishing of Class 3B had me intrigued, but it took me quite some time to get to the point. What could have happened that day when an entire bus load of children and their teachers simply disappear while on a field trip? That is when the parental secrets come to light. With GPS, Google Maps and the myriad of tracking applications, this fiction story is a bit unbelievable. Written in the past would have done well with this book. Perhaps 30 years or so ago? Thank you Jackie Kabler and NetGalley for this ARC.
The Vanishing Class of 3B starts out innocently enough as the Class of 3B is off on a school trip on a bus for the day and the children are excited.
Something goes terribly wrong and the bus never makes it home and the entire class and their teachers are missing.
Their parents and the police are frantic.
The story is full of shady characters and all of them have a secret but whose secret is behind the kidnapping of the children.
One by one you learn their secrets past and present.
The pages turn quickly as you follow the clues and hope for the best.
Entertaining read that will keep you turning the pages.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for an intriguing read.
On one hand I really enjoyed this book as it has a fantastic gripping plot, a bus full of young children go missing on a school trip, they are the children of wealthy parents and so it quickly becomes clear it’s a kidnap for ransom. As the drama unfolds among all the parents, some likeable and some definitely not, you realise that some of them have secrets they are hiding and someone from the inside is definitely involved in the children’s abduction. So all this is gripping and fast paced and you really want to know what is going to happen next.
However, each revelation is as predictable and disappointing as the next. The secrets are all so cliche, the inside visitor is so obvious and the kidnappers not surprising at all. Why it happened at all is so far fetched and ridiculous and the outcome is a massive let down. There were really no surprises or anything that shocked. Good plot premise, good characters, but the overall story details ruined it for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the ARC in return for an honest review.
I was drawn to The Vanishing Of Class 3B by its simple but unique premise. As readers, we all have our own memories and experiences of school trips, so this story is something many people will relate to, but it has the extra sense of danger and mystery to keep me hooked. It has everything I would want in a crime novel: it is fast paced, has so much tension and lots of interesting characters.
The Vanishing Of Class 3B has a large cast of characters and the chapters are written from the perspectives of children, teachers and parents and Jackie Kabler distinguishes between these voices well. This means that there is often a lot going on, but it increases the sense of jeopardy and made it really intriguing for me. It is clear from the very beginning that all of the families have secrets and I really enjoyed delving deeper into their lives and I was keen to know what they might be hiding.
As the investigation into what happened to the missing people begins to get closer to a conclusion, the tension becomes palpable. I really wanted the perpetrator to be caught and I was on the edge of my seat as the police got closer to the answers.
I flew through it. Sending your child on a school trip is always a worry. The Vanishing of Class 3B is the premise of my worst nightmare. This fast paced, page tuner was a one day read for me. I like how Jackie Kabler writes.
Thank You to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and Jackie Kabler for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC.
A small bus load of students and teachers head off to a field trip. They got off to a late start but all appears to be going well until the bus does not return at the appointed time.
We learn about the children and their families as the story progresses. We also read about the four trusted teachers who were also on the trip.
Most of the parents were unlikable characters for one reason or another. Many of them have their own secrets they are trying to protect. That can make for a difficult police investigation.
Lots of intrigue along the way. I guessed some of the twists fairly quickly but certainly not all of them.
Although the characters weren't likeable, they were well portrayed. I was interested to see how their lives would move forward in the end.
Thanks to netgalley and One More Chapter for the arc.
Promising premises but fell short really quickly. The police were absolutely useless, I doubt actual police officers would act this way. None of the protagonists was relatable or impacted me, so I'll have forgotten them before going to bed tonight. The secrets hidden among the pages were either too weak or far-fetched to help the plot.
Class 3B go on a day trip and don't return and there is no trace of them or the teachers who went with them. Has there been an accident? Is it a mass abduction or have they simply vanished into thin air? And what lengths will people go to to find them? An edge of your seat read, where every character becomes a suspect at some point. I didn't see the outcome coming and I didn't predict the long standing reasons behind the vanishing of class 3B! Thoroughly enjoyed!
I read a preview copy of this novel, having read the blurb about it and seen it advertised on Facebook. I was intrigued at the description - how can a primary school class completely disappear on a school trip? Many years of being a teacher and many school trips later, I had to read this! It was absolutely brilliant. I’ve read it over two days and struggled to put it down. It took me a while and a lot of clues to work it out! A great, realistic class of characters, a well structured and developed plot which is everything I want in a book. I’ll now be searching for other Jackie Kabler books. I’m officially a fan. Thanks @netgalley for letting me read this one!
After a bus full of children and their teachers fail to return after a school trip, it soon becomes clear that something is seriously wrong. How on earth can an entire class of children disappear?
An ingenious concept for a story. Full of intrigue and suspense. I liked the way the author told the story from multiple points of view - it gave the reader the upper hand on knowing what was happening, without revealing everything.
My only criticism would be that the police seemed highly incompetent and this, disappointingly, made the story less believable.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book and kept picking it up for ‘one more chapter’! I liked the original idea of kidnapping a whole class of students and how that was executed. I can’t say I ´liked » the parents - there wasn’t much to like - but they were very well written. I thought I had it figured out at one point- but that was only part of it! I also liked that the ending wasn’t a neat and tidy parcel
Different to books I normally read, I enjoyed the change and will look for more
I was really intrigued by the storyline and was gripped by it straight away. It’s a really interesting, original, terrifying plot and because of the mystery surrounding it, you do read through it so fast because your so intrigued to find out the truth. I did get quite confused by the multiple characters and their pov initially, Especially as there seemed to be so many secrets hidden but that did also keep my interest as again I was just so interested in finding out the secrets and the truth, it was a gripping storyline that kept me intrigued throughout
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were well fleshed, and the story was good, and kept me guessing. I thought it was really well written, and a thoroughly good read, I did manage to guess a little part of the plot ,but was kept guessing with the rest right up to the end. I would recommend this book, and indeed I already have ,definitely gets 5 stars from me.
I enjoyed this one overall. The storyline is unique and shocking, a group of primary school children and their teachers vanish into thin air during a school trip.
I read through this quickly and I was drawn to the book to find out what was happening.
I did find it hard to connect with the characters as there wasn't really anyone to root for (apart from the kids of course!) I would have liked more chapters around the detectives as that would have helped give the reader someone to get behind.
The finale was unexpected and something a bit different that I think most readers wouldn't guess.
I look forward to reading more from Jackie.
Thank you for the advanced copy.
In a wealthy community in the Cotswolds a brazen crime is pulled off in broad daylight. The entire class of a prestigious Primary school disappear. Ten innocent kids just vanished along with three supervising teachers. Some of the parents include a famous chef, a TV game show host, an Ex-football player and spouses.
The parents are devastated, crushed, crying endlessly, confused, some even hysterical, some drinking heavily, all seemingly hiding secrets. Which parents are the kidnappers targeting? What’s the motive, will there be a ransom note? Which parent is cheating, having an affair, gambling, in debt, an embezzler, committed a crime? Was it an inside job, a teacher in on it? Days drag while the police are stumped, no leads, no clues. Could a parent behind this? I cannot imagine the stress and worry of such an event.
I was glued to the pages and unprepared for the ending. The characters were distinct and mostly realistically portrayed. I loved the concept and plot with just one small criticism which makes it a four star instead of a five star review.
Possible spoiler here:
The police Detective, Sadie, made multiple questionable procedural decisions as the case came to a conclusion. I don’t believe police in the UK are that different from the US under such serious circumstances. No way would a civilian be allowed to enter a possible crime scene all alone, with hostages, to resolve the situation! Also, a suspect confesses to murder and isn’t immediately handcuffed and arrested? I know this story is fictional however, this would never happen in real life and is unbelievable, regardless of the situation.
I really enjoyed everything else about the mystery. I’ve read and enjoyed several of Kabler’s previous books and will continue to watch for her future books.

Its every parent's worst nightmare: you wave your children off on a school trip.... but they don't come back.
A small class of year 2 children and four teachers go on a trip to the zoo for a day. However, for some reason the mini bus doesnt return that day. Have they broken down, have they had an accident or has something more sinister happened?
As the story unfolds we follow the parents as they cycle through a whirlwind of emotions, desperately trying to find out what has happened.
This is a fast moving thriller with many twists. I thought I had worked it out about halfway through, but wasn't quite right. A light, but unputdownable read that kept me guessing!
This was a well crafted book considering the intricate twists and turns that happened within the narrative. For a book full of wholly unpleasant characters it was certainly compelling.
One of those books where parts of the story are easy to work out, and others completely not, which keeps the guesses going and the pages turning nicely. Whilst there are certain bits that required a large suspension of disbelief, and possibly a few twists that were unnecessary, this was on the whole a very good read, and I will certainly be looking out for more by this author.
Set in an idyllic village in the Cotswold. This story unfolds when the school bus disappears, practically vanishes out of sight.
A ransom arrives and one of the parents are bearing a secret. Secrets unravel but whose secret is it referring too and why…..
Twists and turns along the way will you have you guessing and on tender hooks.
It must be a parent or teacher's worst nightmare, going off on a school outing and not returning home. But just how can a school bus of 10 children and 4 teachers just disappear without a trace?
Surely it has to be impossible, and the reasons behind it are pretty unguessable.
It is an incredibly well crafted, well plotted, and very clever premise to this story, that had me under its spell. I was reading into the early hours until my eyes couldn't stay open any more and then had a disturbed night's sleep a result.
It is also clear quite early on that various parents are hiding things, but as a reader I only got to work out some of the secrets, a few beats before the characters, they seemed that well concealed.
I was open mouthed for a lot of the time I was reading this, in part due to the parents, which although I felt sorry for them all, I also didn't seem to like most of them, baffled as to how on earth the police were ever going to figure this case out, while in fear that pure innocent children may be harmed.
It was such a fiendishly clever, well thought out plan from the villains of the piece, that I was in awe of them,
Another truly spectacular story from Jackie Kabler.
Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
