This was a fun read. True-to-life characters in a story about friendship and the importance of communicating. Wonderful fresh dialog and descriptions of the world they are in. Would definitely recommend this book for all romance fans.
The story follows Lina and Brown as they try to keep their looming divorce a secret from their friends, rediscovering love along the way. It underscores that marriages aren't just about the rosy moments. Those initial fluttery feelings experienced during dating, the wedding, and the honeymoon eventually fade. As reality settles, challenges arise - be it both partners working, scattered socks, or strands of hair on the floor. These might not be the exact issues faced by Lina and Brown, but they're similar. The dynamics among the characters felt real, capturing genuine life challenges. The rapport and equilibrium among them were particularly engaging.

I received an advance copy of How to Keep a Husband for Ten Days by Jessica Hatch from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinions. I couldn't wait to read this as I loved the cover and it looked like it would be really fun. In all honesty, I struggled with this as it just was a tough read. Didn't love it but will for sure give the author another chance. We can't all hit homeruns everytime.

I struggled through this one, I really liked the sound of the premise but I feel the writing was a tad clumsy and I found myself getting a little bored.
Unfortunately wouldn't reread...
The cover of this book gave me Katherine Center vibes. However, the story fell very flat. Of course, I might not be the target audience because I am 24 and single. I don't think there was anything wrong or bad about this book, I just, unfortunately, felt bored when reading it. This is not to say, that I won't consider picking it up again and giving it a second chance in the future. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest review!
Unfortunately this one didn't work for me. I have a hard time reading characters with they/them pronouns as it becomes extremely confusing in the context of the story. In addition I just felt like the main story conflict didn't pull me in and I really didn't care how it concluded.
This book is a quintessential example of a great idea with lots of potential but a complete miss in terms of execution. For me this book was way too slow and boring, I did not care about any of the characters, and the plot kind of fell apart really quickly. For a second chance romance to work I need to care about the relationship, understand why if fell apart, and see the characters work through there issues in a way that makes me want to root for them. Unfortunately, this book did exactly the opposite: I did not understand why these people got married in the first place, but somehow I also did not understand why they separated, and therefore, basically nothing could make me care if they got back together or not. Also, it was really unclear (aka there was no good reason) why they had to keep their separation from their friends.
If you want this plot summery but with great execution, read Happy Place by Emily Henry.
Another issue that isn't necessarily the author's fault but I feel the need to point it out because in a book like this it really sets you up for failure when a book is marketed as humor, hilarious, a rom com etc, but is not actually funny! When will publishers learn that this does not do their books any favors?
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with and ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
How To Keep A Husband For 10 Days by Jessica Hatch is a romance read that's a little bit different than your usual. You know where they fall in love, they get married and everything else but no, in this one we start where they're actually married and getting a divorce and then it's a case of will they work out their differences and get back together and have a happily ever after or will their happily ever after come after they get divorced.
The old building that they used to live in, which is where they met and where like their friend group comes from, is being sold and basically they want to save this building. They're not ready to tell their group of friends that they are getting divorced. They also don't want to take away from the project of saving the building and having inexpensive housing in cities.
I think it would be good for a book club read because it touches on arguments that don't come up that often in a romance read.
Freddie is a friend of theirs from the apartment building who uses the pronouns he and they throughout the book. At the very beginning, because I wasn't aware of this going into the book, when I first saw them referenced as they I was a little confused. It was done so solidly throughout the book though and Freddie was a really good character so after a while it just became automatic that Freddie was they.
A fun read, light hearted entertaining story with a nice satisfying ending. It was a nice break between my usual mystery reads.
A nice romantic comedy, with a good range of characters. I loved Lina and Browns storyline, however the rest of the book I found quite underwhelming and too much detail put into other areas of the story rather than focusing on the main characters.
Overall, not a bad read if your looking for a quick light read
A fun and laugh out loud comedy about pretending to be married to the man who you were married too. Messed up right? But it shouldn't be too hard. Wrong!
I loved this book and really invested in all the characters in this story. I really routed for Lina and Browne to make things right after falling in love with their love story and their old apartment block where I want to live. This is a lovely warm hug in a book
I enjoyed reading How to Keep a Husband for Ten Days by Jesica Hatch. The story and characters are wonderful. Happy reading!
**I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely**
What was supposed to be a second chance, marriage in crisis (summary seemingly similar to happy place), was a plot that tried to skimm over covid, affordable housing crisis, friend group reunion and finally, the FMC & MMC hiding a divorce from friend group for fear of judgement and it fell really really flat. There were too many competing plot lines that you really weren't able to invest in any of them, and the heavier plot lines weren't really handled with the care fhat they probably should have been. There was no romance or chemistry to speak of. The 'romcom' part offered no background to the couple, no chemistry and no butterflies for the reader to want to fight for them to have a good outcome. I had anticipated this to be the main plot and it was really the least involved part of the story. This had potential to be good, to be full of laughs and love that one would expect from a romcom but unfortunately it was not for me.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my review!
Unfortunately I could not get through this one. i did not like the characters, the pacing or the way the story was progression so it was just not for me. I am sure there is the right audience for this but it was not me.

Lina is a woman that is trying to settle back into normal life. She is going to work, coming home, and going to therapy. Ever since she and her ex-husband Brown separated and filed for divorce, she has been trying anything to keep her mind off of it and him. However, he slams back into her life when she learns the apartment building they used to live in, and where she met her closest friends is going to be sold to some real estate tycoon that wants to hike up the rental prices and force the neighborhood into a difficult situation.
She decides to help her friends to try and save the building, but the problem is, her and Brown have not told them that they have separated and are going through divorce proceedings. So using the bargaining chip of his vinyl collection which she still has, she convinces Brown to play along that they are still happily married and together, just until everything with the protests and strikes ends with the building, and she promises to come clean. After all, they were married before, so how hard can it be to fake it a little longer?
I simply did not find this book as enjoyable as I would have liked. While I do enjoy a good romance, I found it to be a little too predictable in any sense of what would happen by the end. I found myself looking more for the information of what would happen to the apartment building than the romance between Lina and Brown. If you are a true romance fan, I would recommend it, but personally, it needed more drive and stakes on the line to push me to enjoy it more than I actually did.
Rating: 2/5
I unfortunately couldn't finish this book, it honestly just nnoyed the hell out of me. The characters walere annoying, the synopsis isn't accurate at all.
HOW TO KEEP A HUSBAND FOR TEN DAYS - JESSICA HATCH
I have not read any other books by the author, but I am sucker for cartoon covers and the 'marriage in crisis' trope in romance books, so I had to see for myself whether I found gold with this cutie or not.
However it wasn't the authors first rodeo, so I'm a bit baffled by some characteristics relating to writing style, character and plot development and the fact that I wouldn't neccessarily say it's a romcom.
The pacing was a bit off, and I wanted to like and enjoy the close-knit, second family type of friend group, but they fell short of my expectations.
I really liked the male main character, Brown, he was flawed and human, which made him and his actions/mistakes relatable in my eyes.
Lina was a bit of a question mark in my heart of hearts, I never really connected with her, even tough I could and should found quite a lot of similarities between me and her.
But her headstrong attitude and her not really acknowledging wrongdoings, etc was putting me off.
The idea of the plot had real merit, and with a better editing and writing style, I feel like the blurb set me up on a different path than the book eventually took me.
