Popcorn thriller to the rescue to wipe away those winter blues! McFadden KNOWS how to make a book where the pages turn themselves! Magic! She also puts in a good twist that you don't see coming, yet I sat there reading an anticipating that twist.
This is the second in the Housemaid series, but I don't think they need to be read in order. Millie is an ex-con (not her fault), poor, and trying to pay the bills. She puts ads in the paper for what she does best, a full service housemaid with cooking dinners as a bonus! She's cautious about letting her past be known for fear of being fired or not hired because of her unsavory past "crimes".
You will find that you are on Millie's side, and she is on the side for all women who need someone to stand up for them. She's your gal!
The writing is simple and quick. Some of the story points are a bit predictable, and you'll wonder why Millie is putting up with what you never would, but just play into it, it makes for a fun thrill ride!
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the advance e-copy of this book.
I read this in one day.wow what an amazing book. First time author for me.
Thank you net galley for this great book to read.
This book was so hard to put down with the twists and turn the book just sucked me right in. I could not stop read this book.
Loved this book. Now I have to check out more of her books. Great job

The Housemaid's Secret is the sequel to "The Housemaid," which was released in August 2022.
Millie is back and now, she works for another wealthy couple, the Garricks. How far is she willing to go to protect another woman from an abusive husband?
In the beginning, I had so many questions, and just as many hypotheses. I found it hard to put this book down, especially the last 70% or so of the book. Some twists literally made my jaw drop. Fortunately, no one saw me reading this book, or they would've seen me with my mouth hanging open.
I gave five stars to The Housemaid (🌝🌝🌝🌝🌝) because it was one of the best books I've read. To be perfectly honest, the reason why I can't give five stars to The Housemaid's Secret is that there were several times when Millie rather annoyed me. I totally get lying to others. However, lying to oneself is just so hard for me to understand. There was a little teeny bit too much romance for me. I prefer my thrillers to have almost zero romance, but that's just me. Maybe I expected too much because we'd been anticipating this sequel so much!
Freida McFadden is one of my favorite authors because she's just so good at getting people out of book slumps. Unlike some books that have long-ass chapters, her books have short chapters that keep you wanting to read more. She has a wonderful sense of humor, as well, something I didn't know I needed in a thriller author..
Thank you to NetGalley and Freida McFadden for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC.
LOVED IT. The Housemaid’s Secret by Freida McFadden was so good, it’s the sequel to the amazing novel The Housemaid. I don’t know how the author is able to constantly churn out such good books but I’m glad she does because I have enjoyed every single book she’s written.
The Housemaid’s Secret is fun and gripping and intense with a huge twist that left me asking, WHAT!?
“Don’t go in the guest bedroom.” A shadow falls on Douglas Garrick’s face as he touches the door with his fingertips. “My wife… she’s very ill.” As he continues showing me their incredible penthouse apartment, I have a terrible feeling about the woman behind closed doors. But I can’t risk losing this job—not if I want to keep my darkest secret safe…
It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want.
It’s almost perfect. But I still haven’t met Mrs Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom. I’m sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood around the neck of her white nightgowns when I’m doing laundry. And one day I can’t help but knock on the door. When it gently swings open, what I see inside changes everything…
That’s when I make a promise. After all, I’ve done this before. I can protect Mrs Garrick while keeping my own secrets locked up safe.
Douglas Garrick has done wrong. He is going to pay. It’s simply a question of how far I’m willing to go…
This comes out on February 20, pre-order now so you don’t miss it.
The Housemaids Secret by Freida McFadden
I give this book 4.5 stars

Fantastic….I could NOT put this one down!
Completely engaged from start to finish in this riveting storyline. Superb characterisation and a skilfully executed plot. We start off from Millie’s pov and then it switches and the pace and tension ratchets up, A brilliantly done sinister tale filled with secrets, twists and revenge. Highly recommended read!
With thanks to Netgalley,Freida McFadden and Bookouture for my chance to read and review this book
The Housemaid and The Housemaid’s Secret were the first of Freida McFaddens books that I read and I thought they were both phenomenal. Both books tick all the boxes of an incredible psychological thriller. I liked the crossover/ similarities between the two books, like the characters that were reoccurring, the similar structure. I had mixed feelings about Millie’s character in this book. Some of her actions were overly frustrating however, she definitely redeemed herself in the end! That ending was so clever and so shocking. I loved it. I love the authors writing style and how well the plot was so cleverly constructed, I will definitely be reading more of the authors work!
4.5 rounded up
Freida Mcfadden is the only author who's books I consistently read in one sitting. It feels like the first half of the story you're being thrown all this information and you're trying to figure out how it's gonna go, and then you get a little over halfway and realize everything you thought was going to happen was wrong! I love her books because they're easy to read, fast paced, and always have a good twist.
Millie is back with another couple cleaning their house but the wife, Wendy, is hidden away in her bedroom because she is "sick" as claimed by her husband. She finally one day meets Wendy and sees she is being horribly abused by her husband, so she tries to do what she does best - help save her! And then you NEED to read the rest because there's no way you will see this coming.
I honestly really enjoyed both books in this series and look forward to more from this author. I would love to see her continue this series for at least another book with Millie to see how she is after this couple and with her new friend!
TW: Attempted SA, Murder, Stabbing, Suicide mention, stalking
Thank you NetGalley, Freida McFa, and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.
This is the second book and a sort of continuation from the first. Although you don’t have to read them in order, you’re going to want to since both are so good. This book was fast paced and kept you interested from the first sentence and didn’t let go. I was hooked and stayed up too late in order to finish it. Highly recommend!
Wow, wow, wow! Freida McFadden has done it again! From the very first chapter she had my full attention. I could not get enough of this book. I loved how it touched on some of the characters from the first book but was still an entire new story. This book was such a thrill to read. It was a page-turner right until the very end. Be prepared to pick your jaw up off the floor a few times, especially the ending.
Freida McFadden is an excellent thriller writer!! This was another 5 star read for me. I recommend reading THE HOUSEMAID first but this can be read as a stand alone. In THE HOUSEMAID'S SECRET we follow Millie, again, as she takes a new housekeeping client in NYC. Douglas Garrick and his wife seem far from 'normal' and Millie is in the thick of it again.
McFadden's writing is pageturning and atmosphereic. There are points in the story where you gasp and keep going faster into the dive to see what happens. POV changes mid book and again, another gasp ... read it!!
She's done it again, folks. Freida McFadden is such an awesome psychological thriller author. She always keeps me engaged in her books and this one did not disappoint. There was one twist after another. I had to stop and re-read because my brain couldn't wrap around all the craziness that was her plot. Such an amazing storyline. I was hooked from the beginning and cared about Millie as though she was a close friend. So grateful I have gotten to read this book. I loved it and I am telling all my friends about it! Awesome job Freida!
I was excited to spend more time with Millie as she navigates the wild and twisty world of the Manhattan elite. I really enjoyed The Housemaid, but after reading The Housemaid’s Secret I think one reason I was so enamored with the story was because I listened to the audiobook. Lauryn Allman did a fantastic job narrating Millie’s story and I think the casual tone and at times, wild plot worked really well (maybe even better) as audio. Sadly, I read the physical copy of book two and I didn’t enjoy it as much.
The plot is highly unbelievable but also... highly entertaining. I didn’t need quite so many twists, but I respect that Freida McFadden can keep her readers on their toes. My biggest complaint is one I can’t really explain without spoiling but I’ll say that part two was a bit frustrating.
McFadden’s books are extremely fast paced and I was able to finish this in just a few hours. I have no doubt fan's of The Housemaid will enjoy this one!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book; all opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to be an early reader.
Great follow up to The Housemaid! There were times that Millie got on my nerves and I wondered if she could be that naive, but it added to the overall narrative! Can’t go wrong with this Freida McFadden read!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Bookouture, for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I found this book, the second in the Housemaid series by Freida McFadden, even more entertaining and gripping than the first one. The atmosphere is less creepy but Millie has in store more surprises for us.
The plot is, as usual, nicely built, slightly more predictable than the plot of the first book but still there are edge-of-your-seat plot twists, both minor ones and a bigger one towards the end.
What I love about Freida's style, and The Housemaid's Secret is no exception, is that the characters are real people with flaws and weaknesses, Millie is definitely not a saint but she's genuine and smart. I also enjoy that even if this is a thriller, there are plenty of funny parts and details that make you laugh.
I somehow missed the first book- which told Millie's story- but this was fine as a standalone. Millie has gone to work for the Garricks, who are incredibly rich and who have an incredible secret. She's told not to open a door but does and makes a discovery which will change everyone's lives. This is topical and twisty as well as entertaining. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
Wow! The twists and turns didn’t stop coming with this one. Just when I think I have something figured out, something else happens. I couldn’t put it down. I really hope there is another one in this series. I really love Millie and Enzo. ***Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book!***
I was a lucky recipient of an advanced reader copy of The Housemaid’s Secret prior to its February release date. Freida is the master of twists and turns, right up to the last page. She also knows how to make the reader HATE a character with a passion. I love the short chapters, keeps me saying “okay, just ONE more chapter”…. As I read about 5 more and stay up into the wee hours of the night. I felt this book piggybacked off of the Housemaid well, didn’t leave any questions unanswered. Was not a disappointment, like many sequels are. Definitely a Freida fan!
This book (and the Author!) has renewed my ZEST for reading AND writing! Sitting on the edge of my seat, Im gasping and mumbling as I read through twists and turns that keep me riveted to the pages. Every time the protagonist climbs those steps to the door of the room I hold my breath! I have not read a story that has managed to keep me up all night in a long time. Bravo!
Millie is back in a book full of twists. Just when you think you know where the story is going,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and then Freida comes up with a curve ball. I have no hesitation in recommending this book and wish I could give more than five stars.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this fab ARC
Millie is back in the page turning sequel to "The Housemaid' and Freida McFadden fans won't be disappointed!
Mille finds herself slowing building the life she wants. She has a terrible apartment in a bad part of town, but a wealthy boyfriend dying for her to move into his Central Park apartment. She's got a past she's not proud of, but a new job that could help get her on her feet for good. Things are starting to look up.... until (in true Freida McFadden fashion!) her new job turns into her worst nightmare.
I couldn't put this one down. Just like its predecessor, it's a fast paced, unputdownable story with killer twists!
