I couldn't put this book down. I really liked it, but wasn't as shocked by the ending as I was in The Housemaid
I just love this authors novels. The Housemaids Secret is my second but I’ll certainly be reading all other novels by her. I’ve found her characterisation to be very good. Their story really draws you in and you believe everything you read. The twists the author adds are well thought out as they certainly are ones you don’t see coming. Her writing is so good and really pulls you into the storyline which again is very well written and well thought out which adds layers to her stories. She can create tension and suspense and certainly had me closing the blinds 😂
A fabulous author who I really feel has a string consistency in her writing.
This was not as detailed as the first book. This one felt like it should have been more of a novella-length. I would not recommend this to fans of The Housemaids Secret.
The Housemaid's Secret is the sequel to The Housemaid.
As with all the McFadden books I have read so far it jumps right into the story. At first I was thinking this was going to just another story of Millie helping abused wives. But, Then okay maybe not. I would expect nothing less from McFadden. A big twist way before the end sets up the rest of the story. And yes there will be more twists. There always are.
I loved Millie just as much in this one as in the first book. Not a huge fan of her boyfriend though. Some interesting characters to say the least.
Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.
Despite being a sequel to The Housemaid this can be read as a standalone, however I would recommend you read the Housenaid as I found it to be more of an interesting storyline.
Although I enjoyed the book i think from the hype I was expecting slightly more from the story, and I know I'm in the minority here. However it's a solid read and bound to be another hit for Ms McFadden
Freida has never disappointed me! I really enjoyed The Housemaid’s Secret. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for choosing me to read and review this ARC.
I have yet to figure out the ending to any of Freida McFadden’s books which is one of the reasons she is my favorite author. Just when you think you know what is going to happen, Freida throws in an amazing twist and proves you wrong! The Housemaid was one of my favorite books of 2022 and I was ecstatic to be able to read the sequel early. If you also loved The Housemaid then The Housemaid’s Secret is a must read!
I loved the Housemaid’s Secret although I enjoyed the Housemaid more. It may be just because it was the first book I had ever read from Freida McFadden and I’ve always enjoyed the original better than the sequels in all books. It is still a 5 star read from a phenomenal author!
This was an awesome read. A great follow-up to The Housemaid. I highly recommend both. Freida McFadden is my new favorite author!!
Freida has knocked it out of the park again! The final twist at the end was the icing on the cake. I think this book will be very well received.
The Housemaid’s Secret is the sequel to The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden. I absolutely throughly enjoyed the first book in the series , though I rarely give 5 stars , I thought it was very deserving of a five star review . Though , the second book is another gripping psychological thriller it felt as this one struggle to find its ground in the first half of the book. Nevertheless, the book picks up its paced in the second half and becomes what we have learned to expect from this author, filled with twist and turns and a ravishing ending.
I need to start this off by saying that The Housemaid was one of favorite books that I read in 2022. When I heard that there was going to be a second book, I got so excited.
For me, this book didn't live up to the hype of the first one. This book really took a while for me to finally get invested in the story. I didn't devour the book. It actually took me over a week and a half to read.
In typical Freida fashion, she throws a twist at the very end that I didn't see coming. But it wasn't enough for me to be excited. One of the other big reveals wasn't a huge surprise either.
There was a reveal in the book that also seemed.....convenient.
You can read this book without reading The Housemaid. You may have a little more enjoyment, but I don't think it matters.
Since I can't do half stars, I rounded down to 3 stars because 4 just seemed too high. Overall I give The Housemaid's Secret 3.5 stars.
The Housemaid’s Secret is the sequel to The Housemaid - Be sure to read them in order to avoid spoilers!!
I loved it! I hope the story is able to continue!!!
4 stars
Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of The Housemaids Secret by Freida McFadden
This is the first book by Freida McFadden that I've read, but won't be the last. The twists in this book are great, certainly had me stumped, right to the very end. Just loved it, and couldn't put this book down. It got better every chapter.
Millie is the main character, living in a poor part of town, and now is looking for a new job because her last employer fired her when her baby started calling Millie "momma". She finds a new job as a housemaid for a couple who live in a penthouse and she will be paid very well to clean and cook. However, she is not to interact with Wendy, the wife who is apparently very ill and needs her rest.
The author has done a great job with character and story development, I'll be reading some of her previous novels and waiting for the next one.
The amount of times I said “that’s not how this works - that’s not how any of this works” while reading this book was quite frankly ridiculous.
I received an ebook copy through NetGalley and I want to thank them for it.
This one started out pretty solid. It’s book 2 in a series but I had no trouble keeping up with it. While I was curious about Millie’s background, I can only assume it was explained in book one. It didn’t matter that much with this story and the important bits were explained.
The beginning was interesting. I found myself wondering where on earth it was even going - it was pretty normal. Then things went bonkers. Then we have a straight up refusal to communicate which just annoys me and then the big event followed by “that’s not how that works”.
I found it pretty obvious where it was going. Of course I do read a lot of thrillers and this followed a path I’m familiar with.
It’s fast paced, twisty and turny- odds are it’ll keep most people guessing and I can see the appeal. This just wasn’t for me though.
⭐️⭐️💫
First off I want to thank @netgalley, @bookouture & @freidamcfadden for my free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
The sequel to The Housemaid was as thrilling as the first book. I was captivated from the start and it didn't let me go until the end.
I did find the beginning slower and wasn't sure but once it picked up it was definitely worth the wait. All the twists and turns keep coming.
I don't want to give too much detail away but if you've read The Housemaid you will definitely enjoy it's sequel. McFadden is a pro at the non stop twists. I do recommend you read the books in order.
If you want a twisty, captivating suspenseful read read this one!
My obsession with Frieda’s books began last year after reading The Housemaid. Her writing is so addictive and filled with suspense. Think you have everything figured out? You don’t. I also LOVE her humor. I can’t recommend her books enough. Everyone always asks me if I think her books are worth the hype and my answer is absolutely.
I was over the moon when she announced we were getting a second story with Millie but I literally screamed when I was one of the first 100 people to get approved to read an advanced copy!!!
I don’t think I need to write another short summary of what this book is about. There are plenty of those but I enjoy going into her books blind and encourage others to do the same.
Thank you Bookouture for my ARC.
“The Housemaid’s Secret” by Freida McFadden is a twisty little mystery. I didn’t realize that it was the second in the series, but still works as a stand alone. Millie gets a job as a housekeeper for the Uber wealthy Garricks. Mrs. Garrick is always in her room sick and Millie begins to suspect that she’s being abused by her husband. It was a good, quick read with some surprises.
AMAZING! I did not expect the ending at all. It read very well and tied in just right to the first book.
Frieda did it AGAIN!! Every time I think I have it figured out, she adds another twist I didn’t see coming… and then… She does it again!!
It was so good to read about Millie again and what she had been doing since the Housemaid book. With twists and turns that will keep you reading all night.
Highly recommend this book! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC.
Sometimes a short review says it all, doesn't it? I loved, loved this book. The characters are great and the story is incredibly addictive. I had a very, very hard time putting away this book and it read like a TGV.
Once again I am surprised by the way people can scheme in order to deceive others and are convinced they will come out on top. Well, yes, you can dream and you can think your are invincible, but don't forget that one day you might find someone who sees through you and beats you to it.
What goes around comes around and karma will find you somehow.
I am a fan of the housemaid. She prefers to hold on to her beliefs and principles while an easier life is being offered to her. I felt for her too because by wanting to help others, she finds herself with her back against the wall. People she hoped she could count on were leaving her behind. Sometimes it's best, if you want something done well, to just take matters in your own hands. :)
I hope I will meet her again soon, because she really is a great person, forgetting herself to help others. 5 stars without a doubt.
Thank you
