Once again! Freida keeps you on the edge of your seat guessing. A complete spin from The Housemaid. My favorite touch is the love story that makes you crave more. Can’t get enough of this Author.
Freida does it again!! Kept me on my toes with all the twist and turns “The Housemaid’s Secret” did not disappoint.
Thank you NetGalley & Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book too gets a 5 star from me.
This is the long awaited sequel to The Housemaid and while you can read it as a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading The Housemaid first for the background information...plus it is an outstanding read and you will not be disappointed!
So, the housemaid who will clean up all your mess is back! Millie's background means she is always going to struggle to get a job above board, so with bills to pay she is quite happy to fly under the radar to get the money to get by. And Millie has a reputation, a reputation for being a most thorough housemaid, she is quite happy to take care of the messes that sometimes happen in life...you know the type...those pesky untrustworthy spouses!
The pacing in this novel, and in The Housemaid, is spot on, short, sharp chapters will keep you turning the pages, desperate to find out what is going to happen next. She delivers her unpredictable twists with great aplomb and she really does like to pull the rug from under your feet! I love this kind of read, I can just settle myself down and lose myself until I turn the last page, a great read to gorge yourself on!
Millie is one of those characters who you can't help but relate to, while you might have nothing in common with her, as a reader you will be rooting for her and be terrified for her all in the same breath! Sometimes the situations and characters feel completely OTT but there is something about this author's writing that makes me forgive and forget because I become so invested in the outcome.
An addictive, suspenseful and twisted read!
First I'd like to thank Freida McFadden, Bookouture, and Netgalley for giving me an ARC for an honest review.
Millie is BACK! Millie is working for wealthy people trying to better her life. Considering her past, she has to take what job she can get. However, something is going on behind the closed door at the Garrick's penthouse. Millie is determined to protect any way she can.
This book had Freida's genius twists that you think you see coming but you don't. I was smiling while reading thinking to myself I figured it out. Then my jaw dropped and I set the book down to process, because I didn't. Another great book. I love the short chapters, it just flows, and it is so hard to put down!
You need to grab this book on release day February 20th, 2023
My review is already on goodreads.
Thank you Netgalley & Bookouture for an eARC of The Housemaid’s Secret by Freida McFadden! After binging the Housemaid, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this gem of a thriller. It can absolutely be read as a standalone, but I love nothing more than a twisty thriller.
This one picks up again with Millie, working as a housemaid for wealthy families. After all, it’s hard to find an employer that doesn’t look very far into her past. To be honest, I don’t want to get much further in terms of a synopsis because I felt like it spoiled a lot of the book’s plot for me and because of it, a lot of the book was predictable. That being said, I really enjoyed the book and was surprised by the ending - How does she come up with this stuff?! - As with all of Freida’s books I’ve read, it’s one that you’ll start and want to finish in one sitting.
Frieda did it again! I LOVED the housemaid and the housemaid secret didn’t disappoint. Her books are such easy reads from start to finish and I always try to guess the ending and never seem to get it right. I wish everyone knew about Frieda and I hope she continues to give us some great reads. I need more sequels to some of the others! A lot of sequels are never as good as the first but I can honestly say that this one was just as good for me. Thanks Frieda ❤️ you’re the best!
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for this e-ARC of The Housemaid’s Secret!

That’s when she hears from the Garricks, a rich CEO living in an amazing New York penthouse. But Millie suspects something is going on in the Garrick’s house. Wendy refuses to leave her room and Douglas seems to be hiding a temper. Will Millie be able to help Wendy?

I loved this fast paced thriller with short chapters. We get to see Millie again (though it’s been four years since the first book’s events) and Millie is still trying to help women escape their abusive relationships. I love the multiple parts and the dual POV told in the story. Things are never so clear cut in Frieda’s books, and that’s what makes them so much fun! Everything was also nicely wrapped up by the end. I hope we continue to see Millie and Enzo working together!

✨must read The Housemaid first✨
This was a hell of a book to start the new year off with. Holy moly. Y’all know Freida is an auto-buy author for me, and this is hands down my favorite book of hers.
The first half of the book felt very classic-Freida - heavy slow burn with a strong subplot.
A little over halfway through my jaw literally dropped and the twists just kept coming. Right when I thought there couldn’t possibly be any more surprises - my mind was blown away again.
Absolutely brilliant.
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬- read The Housemaid first, go in blind, and re-read the Housemaid’s Secret prologue after you finish.
👏🏼👏🏼 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙙 to readers who enjoy domestic thrillers and lots of twists.
Millie is back! And so is Freida with yet another bingeable book. This is a big five-stars of entertainment for me! If you haven't read The Housemaid, stop what you are doing and go grab a copy. I'm sure this could be read as a standalone, but why short yourself of something so fun? I pretty much have nothing in common with Millie, yet she is somehow the most relatable fictional character there is. Maybe it's the New Yorker in me, but Millie keeps it real and she's the kind of girl we all need in our lives.
Now, grab a cozy blanket and hunker down for the next couple hours because once you start reading, you'll "one more chapter" yourself until you're forced to stop. And if you hit Part Two in one sitting, it's especially game over. I thought I knew where things were going, but I should know by now that I can never predict a Freida McFadden twist. I really enjoyed the pace, the glimpses into Millie's personal life, and the unpredictability of this sequel. Freida has a way of taking dark topics and making them ridiculously entertaining and dare I say, fun. Her books have been great comfort reads for me and I am glad I still have a handful left to go back and read!
Thank you @netgalley and @Bookouture for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Freida McFadden for the advanced copy of The Housemaid's Secret in exchange for my honest review.
I will be fully transparent and say I was a little offput by the first book in this series having almost the exact same twist as a novel that came about 5 years before it (no spoilers!) I didn't think it was fair to judge the author based on one book so I decided I'd give this one a chance and I'm really glad I did!
The book was well-written, well-paced, and I really enjoyed all the nuanced twists and turns. Fans of McFadden's previous novels will no doubt be very happy with this one.
The Housemaid's Secret will be on US bookshelves February 20!
Millie is back and working for another family. She has been helping women escape their abusive partners since working for the Winchesters and as she takes on this new job something just doesn't seem right.
Another fab read by Frieda. Love the short chapters it makes it so easy to just whizz right through. Also really enjoyed seeing more of Millie and Enzo and can definitely hope there will be more follow ons to this one.
Some of the twists where surprising and others not as much but was still really enjoyable.
Thanks to Netgalley for the Arc.
Wow!!! No Spoilers per the authors request! This novel comes out Feb 2023, but this follow-up to The Housemaid is PERFECTLY TWISTED in a GOOD WAY!!!
McFadden sets her characters up in unique and crazy circumstances that have your mind blown and have you wondering how they are going to get out of their situations. Everyone has their version of the truth.
Deranged, Twisted, Liars, Delicious, Devious, and Passionate are only a few words to describe these characters. Whom do you believe? Just when you think you have an ending figured out, McFadden sets you on at least two other possibilities which you never see coming.
I devoured this in one sitting! Thank you Bookouture, NetGalley and Freida McFadden for this advanced copy.
Follows of my blog will know how much I loved The Housemaid (see my review here) and that I also featured it in my Top Ten Books of 2022 (see full list here), so I was absolutely over the moon to see that Freida McFadden has written a sequel which will be published in February 2023.
OMG – this book is everything you want from a sequel and more. Millie is back once again “helping” women escape abusive husbands and cleaning their houses at the same time. If you haven’t read The Housemaid – STOP reading this – go buy the first book and marvel at the twisty tale Ms McFadden has created. Whilst this book can absolutely be read as a standalone – WHY WOULD YOU?
Anyway, back to this book, it’s simply fabulous. I loved meeting up with Millie again. It’s been a few years since she left the Winchester family and she’s got a new boyfriend and a fabulous job looking after an uber rich family except due to circumstances beyond her control she gets fired. Now she is desperately looking for a new position when she receives a job offer with the Garrick family in their magnificent and luxurious penthouse. She literally can’t believe her luck.. until she hears Mrs Garrick crying through a closed door and finds spots of blood on her washing.
I’m not going to spoil anything here for you so trust me when I say that The Housemaid’s Secret is as fantastic as The Housemaid.
5 huge shiny stars from me.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Amazing book. When Millie takes a new job as a housemaid again, she doesn’t realize that her freedom may be at stake again. This was a fantastic sequel to “The Housemaid” and I honestly am not sure which of the two books I like more!
When I talk about a popcorn style thriller this book is exactly what I mean, the very definition of one for me. It’s juicy and fast paced, it’s wickedly fun and twisty and it’s addicting and unputdownable. Really I couldn’t want anything more and if I was worried this wouldn’t be quite as good as the first book I shouldn’t have even wondered for a second. I don’t even really want to discuss the plot at all, it’s too fun for me to even allude to anything but just know if you enjoy devious thrillers this is a must.
I just finished The Housemaid’s Secret! Wow! I need to convey how good this book was without spoilers (haha). So, let me just say- Freida did it, again! She has this unmatched ability to really make me hate characters (lol). I know that’s a strong word, but it is what it is. This always lets me know just how much I am drawn in to a story. This sequel was another thrilling tale in the life of Millie, following mostly where the last book left off. I liked the fluid continuation of it all. And I just love Millie. She doesn’t always make the best decisions- as we know from the first book- but still, she’s a fan favorite lol. So, long story short- you need to read this book. If you liked the first one, you’ll LOVE the second.
A thriller you cannot put down even when you are sleeping (had a dream about the characters last night). That is when you know you have read a great book, when it stays with you long after you have finished reading the last page. When you crack open the book it doesn’t take but a page to get you sucked into the story. Millie had secrets hidden that she didn’t want her boyfriend Brock or her new employers Douglas and Wendy to uncover. So she kept to herself until she realized there was something disturbing going on in the Garrick household. She knew she had to do something but at what cost? You will be shocked by the twists and turns this book takes . An exciting, thrill ride you don’t want to miss.
This was such a highly anticipated read for me after LOVING "The Housemaid", but this was everything and more that I wanted from a sequel! Twists and turns throughout the story, and I could not stop reading to find out what would happen next. Highly, highly recommend!

Millie is back and cleaning for a new wealthy couple, the Garricks. They live in a super swanky neighborhood in Manhattan, the Penthouse no less!
It appears to be perfect, not a speck of dust in sight. There is one room that she won't be cleaning though. Wendy Garrick is behind closed doors, recovering from an illness.
Millie discovers more than she was prepared for and makes a swift decision regarding Wendy.
This was an entertaining popcorn read. Seasoned thriller readers may want less "telling of the plot" and more discovering of the reveal (at least i did), but we still get some major twists, a nail in the coffin moment and a lifetime movie end. Thunder and lightening included!! ⛈️⚡
If you enjoyed book one or are a fan of the author, I think you'll enjoy this one too. I like the characters Millie and Enzo and would read more featuring them.
This is a book you can really whip through. It’s gripping, fast-paced and easy to read. It’s also full of really left-field surprises. I hadn’t read the first in this series – The Housemaid – which so many reviewers raved about, so jumped at the chance to read this, the second. It read absolutely fine as a standalone, although I enjoyed it so much I will now buy The Housemaid.
There’s murder and mystery, but also humour, romantic entanglements and the housemaid’s own murky past. I had an inkling about what was really happening in the strange Garrick household where the housemaid, Millie, lands a plum job, but that didn’t spoil the story at all for me, and the big reveal was so much bigger and better than I’d imagined.
This is a fabulous holiday read – just don’t start it at bedtime if you want any sleep that night – you’ll battle to put it down.
