The Housemaid’s Secret by Freida McFadden
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I literally screamed when I saw that I was approved for this ARC..& then proceeded to download it as fast as humanly possible.
For those who don’t know & haven’t heard the hype, this is the highly anticipated sequel to “The Housemaid”, which is quite literally one of my favorite thrillers ever.
Millie is at it again with another housekeeping job, this time for one of the richest men in the city. While all houses have their secrets, she finds it rather odd that his wife doesn’t ever leave the spare bedroom. Millie is determined to figure out what secrets are held behind the bedroom door.
Freida does such a fantastic job with the short chapters, quickly developing plots & overall fantastic character development. Highly recommend!
Massive thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for this ARC.
This book is out February 20th, 2023
Review posted on IG & Goodreads- will post on Amazon & B&N once published
The housemaids secret by Freida McFadden
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
In iconic Freida fashion , this book had me all over the place in my own head .. I don't know of any other author who can confuse the hell out of you while reading but still conjur up an amazing story to end on .
I am so beyond excited that @bookouture approved me for an early galley of this one ! After I read The housemaid .. of course I wanted to know more. So when this book was announced I was over the moon . Now as a Freida Readah ( lol ) we are asked to keep twists and spoilers under lock and key . And as I typically do for my reviews- I will not spoil it .
But I will tell you . If you haven't yet picked up the Housemaid ; do it now. And when The Housemaids secret comes out, get this one to ! . I promise you . @fizzziatrist will become your favorite thriller author.
This book was amazing! Literal 5 stars! There is nothing that I would change about it.
So many amazing twists and turns! Frieda definitely topped the charts with this show-stopper!
I’m so happy I was able to receive the ARC of this book! Frieda has outdone herself.... again. This roller coaster of emotions had my head spinning. I tried my best to guess the ending so many times, but never would I have thought that it would end as it did! I never believe that sequels can be better than the initial book, but Frieda has proven me wrong. She has hands-down become my favorite author and I will definitely be reading from her again and again. Even though I don't believe there will be, I would enjoy a third book to complete Millie's journey.
I don't want to input any spoilers, but just know you will never guess the next move and definitely not the ending!
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for an arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
Publication: February 20, 2023
This was one of my highly anticipated reads for early 2023 and when I got approved I nearly squealed!! This book did not disappoint either.
We are sucked right into Millie's life after some time has gone by from the first book. She's trying so hard to get her life on track but soon starts to unravel. I loved the short chapters! If you've read any of my previous reviews about popcorn thrillers, you would know how much I love these (especially as a mom).
The only thing that rubbed me wrong as a reader was that at times the book felt a little flat. I found myself saying "Oh okay that's it?" Does it take away from this still sucking you in? Not at all.
Overall, perfect for fans of: thrillers, popcorn thrillers (short punchy chapters)
Oh I do love a book by this author and when I saw this just had to get it. It was well worth the hype and I really got into it and had to finish it in one session.
There were so many twists and turns it really kept your interest. Wow the ending.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
I am so torn about this one. I loved the Housemaid so much, I read it in a day. I am so happy we got a follow up. And I definitely did devour this one quickly... it just felt a little... off? I can't quite put my finger on it. I didn't hate it, but it did seem a bit wacky and predictable.
This book is AMAZING! Wonderfully written as always from Frieda!
I was getting so frustrated with main character feeling like she was just setting herself up! But then so many twist happens and just threw me for a loop!
Must read!!!
I liked Mille’s first story so I was beyond excited to see she was getting a sequel. I absolutely could not wait to read it, and I devoured the whole thing in a matter of hours. After the unusual events of Millie’s first book (which should absolutely be read before this one) she and Enzo do side work helping women leave abusive or unsafe situations. Mostly with lawyer referrals or fake ids but sometimes it gets a bit more extreme so Millie has a sort of reputation. But she has tried to put all of that work behind her and is taking college classes working to be a social worker and help in a more traditional way. She is excited when tech billionaire Douglas Garrick reaches out to see if she would be willing to clean and do some light cooking for him and his wife. But his wife doesn’t leave her bedroom and Millie has a bad feeling about this home. The twists and turns were great, an entertaining thriller for sure.

Oh this was so good! I loved the first one and was very curious where this book was going to go. The characters were well written and the twists were great, in normal Freida fashion!
How do I write this review? It is going to be unpopular, especially when you consider all but 8 reviwers thus far have given this book > 2 stars. I Just Can't (read that sentence in Imogen Church's voice for the ephasis)
I think I can't get over certain lines like "You are the one who started dating this Broccoli"--Enzo referring to Millie's boyfriend Brock, this continues throughout the rest of the book. I'm sorry am I being harsh? But I feel like that is what I would read in my 6th grade brother's captain underpants book, not an adult book. There were so many times in this book where I just felt like I was reading a middle school mystery. All of it was so amateur.
I am also really tired of the whole Part 1 you read from one perspective and then part 2 is from another character retelling the same story pretty much but with a "sinister" twist. It was fun the first time, but after this has been ad naseum (and not nearly as good as Liv Contstantine) its boring.
McFadden is creative no doubt, she can suck readers in with great story lines and twist, but at the expense of complexity. Now please don't think I am a "snob" when it comes to "literature" (you can call my 10th grade English teacher-Mr Seed. 11th Grade Mrs Baker and 12th Grade--(Oh gosh, what was his name....Mr Lease??) they can all vouch for my in ability to appreciate literature and understanding behind themes/motifs/symbols in books--I mean if a room is blue, its blue, I don't interpret it as it revealing something about the characters or deep philosophical theory) but I am a step above sentences like, "She's married to a man who is quite wealthy (and quite a bit older than she is) but he is not as rich as Douglas"--Almost like a diary of a 13 year old girl.
I also don't understand people's obsession with Millie, I personally think she is a terrible person. The way she treated Brock was infuriating. He was nothing but nice-(Before you attack ne, he was totally justified leaving her high and dry at the end)
The saving grace of this "book" is the ending was clever in that I would enjoy if Millie and Enzo became a series,
But this book was too over the top and the characters are so.....made for TV movie like.
Thank you Net Galley for this advanced copy read, I was not influenced in any way for this (very) honest review.
This sequel was everything I wanted and more. It may be my favorite Frieda McFadden novel and that’s saying something because I love all of her novels. The character development was incredible. The twist(s) were better than expected too. I highly recommend this novel. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. Publish date: February 20, 2023
Thank you @netgalley for this ARC of The Housemaid's secret. It is the sequel to The Housemaid. Freida McFadden can always be counted on to provide page turning thrillers and unexpected twists. I enjoyed this book, but it fell short of the first book.
Millie is back as a housemaid, but is trying to get her life on track. She has a boyfriend and is going to school. When she gets fired as a housekeeper, she is in need of a new job. She is hired by a wealthy CEO, but soon finds that life in his penthouse with his wife is not as it seems.
I have read many of Freida McFadden's books. I am a huge fan and The Housemaid's Secret does not disappoint. I was worried it would not measure up to The Housemaid, but have no doubt, it is just as good!
McFadden always throws a twist in there and catches me off guard. When I think I have it figured out, she shows me that I didn't. I love that when I am reading a book!
Thank you to the author and Net Galley for an ARC of this book.
What a well written sequel! I enjoyed the continuation of Millie’s story and how things progressed. It was a different take and not at all what I was expecting. A couple of great twists were in there that I really enjoyed coming across. If you enjoyed The Housemaid, you’ll definitely want to read this!
I didn't think it was possible, but this one was even better than the first! I don't even try to figure out her books anymore, I just enjoy the ride, and what a crazy one this was! There's no way I could have seen that ending coming! Loved it!
Millie is back!! Freida provides all the twists!! Just when you think you know what is going to happen..WRONG! Loved this 2nd book in the Housemaid series. Freida's books are always page turners..Can't wait to see if Millie will shock us again!!
5 stars! Loved all the usual twists and turns til the very end! Hope to see more of Millie in the future !
I was SO excited for this book. After discovering Freida this summer, I binged all of her books in a matter of weeks. I was so thrilled to receive an ARC for this book, and let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint!
Millie is back at it again when she begins work for the Garricks - Douglas, and the mysterious wife, Wendy, who never seems to leave the guest bedroom.
As Millie’s time with the Garricks goes on, she starts to realize that they have lots of secrets and she grows increasingly concerned over things she witnesses in the house.
I don’t want to spoil this for anyone, but this could work as a stand alone novel but much better as a sequel. I think all Freida fans will love this ones, with the twists, Freida’s humour, and of course, her epilogues that shake you to your core!!
This was another one I could not put down, I love Freida’s writing style, short chapters and the amazing characters she creates.
5/5 stars ⭐️
Many thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Freida herself for the advance copy of this book!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Could not put this down until I got to the end!!! The plot twist will leave you with your jaw on the floor!!! One of the millions reasons why I love Freida McFaddens writing is her twists that you never see coming!!!!
Top 3 best books I’ve read in 2022!!
The Housemaid's Secret is just as amazing as the Housemaid, if not better! I don't know how freida does it, but every book she writes has the best turns that I bet no one can guess!
