What a page turner! Kept my attention and kept me guessing all the way to the end! Really enjoyed following Millie along all the twists and turns of this second book with her as the main character. Highly recommend this read!
Freida McFadden outdid herself once again. From the very first sentence, the book pulls you in.
It was not expecting the sequel to The Housemaid to be as good. In my opinion, sequels tend to be not as satisfying as the first.
However, The Housemaid’s Secret was just as good. It’s entertaining, gripping, and all around a well-executed thriller.
Personally, there were minor aspects within the book that was slightly predictable, but McFadden writes in a way that leaves us anticipating what happens next. The ending was absolutely my favorite part and it didn’t disappoint.
Overall, a satisfying story and if you are fans of Freida McFadden, you are going to enjoy this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange of my honest opinions.
Holy crap I finished this book in one sitting, I literally couldn’t put it down, it was absolutely amazing and brilliant.
This was the absolute PERFECT sequel to The Housemaid. I never correctly guess Freida’s twists. There were so many twists by the end, I was just flying through the pages. I had no idea what to expect next!
The housemaid’s secret is a quick read, told from 2 points of view. This follows the story of Millie which we previously met in the housemaid but could be read as a stand -alone. Frieda McFadden doesn’t disappoint in this book with the many twist. Loved it
Thank for NetGalley, bookouture for the advanced readers copy
Another story where the reader is wrong over and over again, guess and guess again! I adore that about Freida's books!
This is the follow up story to the Housemaid released earlier in 2022. I feel privileged to have been allowed an ARC version of the Housemaids Secret in exchange for my honest review.
Not to give too much away, this story begins a few years later on in the life of Millie. She lands a job with the wealthiest man in the city, as a Housemaid. The man's wife had fallen ill and never comes out of the guest bedroom. In fact- Millie is employed there over a month before ever attempting to speak to her!
Prior to this gig, Millie was working as an advocate for women suffering from domestic violence and has resources to help free them from their dangerous situations. This situation is sending up red flags and she is determined to make sure Mrs. Garrick is safe! But how could the most popular, wealthy, and seemingly kind man she met be a monster behind closed doors? Millie will get to the bottom of it- no matter the cost!
Twists and turns will have you not wanting to put this story down and then being for more! If only Freida could write such great novels as fast as the world reads them! Haha
5 ☆s!!!
Thank you #Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to review, once again! Freida, I applaud you! 👏👏👏👏
As I was readying myself to read this one, I tried to take a moment to refresh my memory of The Housemaid. Looking at other’s reviews, I came across so many elitist, entitled, snobbish…..need I go on…..reviews. I mean good Lord - I don’t want to read a boring, old classic every damn time I pick up a book. Sometimes I just want a damn good story that keeps me turning pages faster than Usain Bolt runs the 100!
So I could go into this one thinking how in the world would one person, Millie, actually get involved in TWO similar cases…. but you know what? I don’t even give a shit how unrealistic it might be. I’m just excited to see what the heck is going to happen this time! Cause it’s fiction. And I love a good story. And I don’t even care how often they microwave sandwiches…. people gotta eat, don’t they? (From a review Freida shared on her Facebook page 😂)
Just another great twisty thriller from Freida. I am definitely joining the junkies, because these are just some damn fun stories to read. I am so grateful to have been one of the few chosen to receive this #gifted advance ecopy through NetGalley, Bookotoure, and Freida McFadden! I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoture for this ARC! I was beyond excited to receive this as I absolutely loved The Housemaid. Although, for me, this book wasn’t as good as its predecessor, it was still a solid 4-4.5 star read! I felt the beginning of the book was a bit slow, but the second half totally made up for that. I think she has done a great job building Millie’s character and, in true Freida fashion, the twists and suspense were on point! If you haven’t read The Housemaid, please read it so you can read this when it comes out in February! You will not be disappointed!!
The Housemaid by Freida McFadden is in my top ten best books of the year so you can imagine my absolute thrill when I found out that a sequel titled The Housemaid's Secret is set to publish in February 2023. I was even more excited when I was granted access to read The Housemaid's Secret ahead of publication and I am here to tell you that it was as deliciously twisty as The Housemaid.
McFadden's writing is binge worthy, compelling me to keep reading just one more chapter over and over until I've reached the twisted conclusion. Just when I began to suspect that I saw where the novel was heading the author took me for a wild ride with jaw-dropping and shocking twists one after another. There's a true art to the thriller twist and McFadden has perfected this in both The Housemaid and The Housemaid's Secret.
I am pressing this into every thriller lover's hands immediately. Be sure to get your copy of this thrilling book on February 20, 2023. A big thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for granting me a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the different perspectives that the book provides in typical McFadden fashion. I like how this sequel tied into the first book. But I do think that there shouldn’t be a continuance of this series because at that point readers will be well aware of how the story line goes and the ending may be more obvious to the reader.
Another twisty thriller from Freida! She never let's me down!
In the Housemaid's Secret, we follow Millie not too long after the Housemaid left off. Millie is still cleaning homes of the rich and famous, but on the side she also helps free women who are in dangerous domestic situations. Well, she had been doing that. For now, she is trying to lead a normal life, with her normal boyfriend, and earn a normal college degree. Of course, there is nothing normal about Millie, and normalcy just isn't her style. No matter how much she tries to steer clear of another illegal situation, they continue to find her.
In true McFadden style, nothing is ever as it seems. Twist, after twist, after twist. I highly recommend both this book, and it's predecessor, The Housemaid. Some books are they kind to finish in a day, and get nothing else done, and Frieda McFadden is ALWAYS my go to author for those kind of stories.
Thank you, Netgalley for the Arc read! Such a phenomenal opportunity! Thank you Freida for your connection with your readers, and the early arc releases to your fan club! You have made a fan for life out of me, that's for sure.
I am not sure where to begin! I LOVE LOVE LOVED book one, it was one of my top books for 2022. This felt different, it had a couple of the same characters. I found the writing to be different, parts of it were choppy and felt rushed. I wanted to love this one as much as the first , but didn't.
This was the first book of hers in a while that I have read and didn't love.
Freida does it again. She reunites us with Millie as she finds another housekeeping job.
I loved the reference of pulling teeth with pliers. This was a great conclusion to her story and I’m glad to see Enzo again with his support of Millie always.
Loved loved loved this book! As always Freida had my jaw dropping again and again in this book! Can't wait to read the next book by her! Would recommend this book to everyone!!
Millie is up to her old tricks! 4 years after the events of The Housemaid, Millie finds herself working for a new wealthy family. She soon has good reason to suspect that the wife, Wendy, is being abused by her wealthy husband, Douglas. Millie has helped more than one woman escape from an abusive relationship, and is set on helping Wendy get free as well. How far will Millie go to show Douglas that he's messed with the wrong woman?
If you are familiar with Freida's work, you know that that's all the information you can have ahead of time, and there's a whole bunch of twists and turns that will throw you for a loop. I really enjoyed The Housemaid and this sequel was definitely just as good! Highly recommended!
I was insanely excited to be approved for a digital ARC of this book from NetGalley. The Housemaid is one of my favorite Freida books and it was thrilling (so much pun intended) to find out a sequel was coming out. Millie continues helping women escape abusive relationships and finds herself helping the wife a zillionaire tech executive. Things spiral out of control and Millie is facing more than just an abusive spouse… Book two was just as entertaining as book one. The relationship with Brock was a little annoying for me, but otherwise a great, fast, read!
I absolutely love this sequel to The Housemaid. It is just as unputdownable as the first book. As with any of Freida's books, I thought I had the mystery solved and was completely wrong, which I love! Freida always keeps her readers on the edge of their seat with plenty of twists and turns. I hope to see another book that continues to follow Millie into her next phase..
Whelp, Freida did it AGAIN! I loved that Millie was back and we saw where she landed after the last book. Again, this boom was full of twists you didn’t see coming, red herrings to throw the reader off and the typical lady twist at the very end! WhaT a Phenomenal book and I hope to continue on Millie’s journey in hopefully a third installment !!
Well, that was a fast read - couldn't put it down and it's a short one. I read The Housemaid and this was a sequel, although could totally be a stand alone book. There was a lot that had happened between the first and second book, and only vague references to the first. Millie is a part time college student who works as a maid/cook/babysitter to make ends meet. You find out more about her past in the book and what drives her. Like the first book, she gets caught in a surprising situation with the wealthy family that she's working for. I was so glad to continue with Millie's story.
Freida has done it again! I had doubts that the sequel could top The Housemaid, but this book shifted gears so fast it felt like whiplash. Millie’s continued story in The Housemaid’s Secret became much more in depth in this second book as the story developed her character. The twists in the storyline certainly keep you guessing the entire book and come together in true Freida fashion at the end for a perfect unexpected finale. This is a thriller to read in one sitting and could be one of this author’s best works. Praise to Freida McFadden again! I hope this story will continue in future work.
