The Housemaids Secret
4/5 Stars
Millie is a young woman living in a dangerous neighborhood in Bronx. She has spent the last several years “cleaning” houses for women and their family’s. Which in most cases meant helping them out of dangerous situations at home. And stopping at nothing to make sure the women got away safely. Millie has recently given up that line of work and is now working to get her degree and has a steady job cleaning and baby sitting for a new family, until she is unexpectedly fired.
Millie immediately starts looking for a new job to support herself when Douglas Garrick reaches out to her. He tells that his wife is ill and can no longer take care of their home. Millie decides to take the job for the Garrick family. Right around the time Millie takes the job she can’t shake the feeling that she is being watched and she soon realizes that the Douglas Garrick may not be the person he portrays himself to be. And his wife Wendy may be in grave danger. Millie decides she needs to help Wendy get away from Douglas. But at what cost?
My Thoughts:
I LOVED this book!! To be honest I may have liked it better than the first book, The Housemaid. While this is technically the second book I do think you can read it without reading the first book before hand.
Freida has done it again with her shocking twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. I could not put this book down and read it within a matter of hours in one sitting. If you are a fan of any of Freida’s other books or other psychological thriller in general this is the book for you!
Anther 5 Star for Fredia!! Thank you so much to Fredia and her amazing publisher! I can not wait to talk to my patrons about this one! I figured a small part of this one out but Fredia leaves hints if you read carefully enough you can find them! The part I figured out was the pills would be used somehow! Looking forward to her next book!
When I heard there would be a sequel to The Housemaid, I couldn't wait! I was lucky to receive this copy from Net Galley for an honest review. Each book I read from Freida McFadden seems to become my new favorite. And this certainly was the case with The Housemaid's Secret. Millie has quite the reputation for saving women in dangerous situations. However, when she receives the call from Douglas Garrick for a job as housekeeper she feels fortunate to have received the call. Her money is running out and because of her police record good jobs are hard to find. Millie learns that the Garrick's are very rich, and the salary offered to her is more then she could have hoped for. Once she begins her job for the Garrick's she begins to suspect things are not as they seem. Wendy Garrick never seems to leave her room. Millie hears disturbing noises from Mrs. Garrick's room. And of course Millie has to investigate. Let me just say if you begin to read one of Ms. McFadden's books you may think you have it all figured out. I've been there and done that. Big surprise, this author's books are never what they seem. If you've never read a Freida McFadden book you are in for a treat. There are always many shocking twists along the way and The Housemaid's Secret is no exception. It was such a page-turner I couldn't stop reading. At the end of the book as usual I'm saying to myself "Wow" what a shocker! This sequel was so good I truly think it could become a series. I'd sure like to read more, and I'm sure you will too! Plan to do nothing once you have this book in your hands, because you won't be able to stop reading until the very last page.
I was absolutely in love with The Housemaid and had high hopes for this sequel. Freida did not disappoint! There were so many twists and I was sure I had it figured out but as with true Freida fashion, I was wrong. I could have read this book in a day but I made myself limit my reading time so that I could savor every moment of it. Now I am dying to see if there is more that will happen with Millie.
Wow, Freida had done it again!!! This book was so good that I finished it in one sitting. Just when I thought I had it all figured it out, there were twists after twists! Amazing! Loved it!
Freida has done it again! Millie is back with some fun new twists and turns. It it so hard to write a good review and not spoil the story. Let's just say if you enjoyed the original you will love this one too! Always keeping you on your toes and hard to put down!
This book is PHENOMENONAL!! It has all the twists and turns that are typical of Freida McFadden. It's a page-turner and keeps the reader excited to see what happens next!
No spoilers -
This book follows the story of Millie, a housekeeper, who assists women in need. This story takes you on an unexpected journey from start to finish. From the first paragraph, I was HOOKED until the very end.
The Housemaid's secret by Frieda McFadden! I just finished this advanced readers copy and oh my goodness it lived up to the hype.
This was the second book in the housemaid series. (I can only hope there will be more!)
Millie is once again trying to make ends meet as a housekeeper for the very rich, she starts working for a very wealthy couple until once again trouble starts happening. What happens next is so many twists and turns that I couldn't even imagine the ending!
Once again Freida had me from the very beginning. I loved it until the very last page.
I really enjoyed this book! The twists and turns made it unpredictable and the end really wrapped things up nicely! Another knockout by Freida!
Freida McFadden is one of my FAVORITE authors. This year I have read her complete backlist and was so thrilled to be able to read this story prior to release date. It was just as wonderful and amazing as can be expected. I am always in awe of how Freida can get me with her twists and turns over and over again. She did it again and everyone needs to pick this story up!
After her past demons have been cleared, Millie takes a job as a housemaid for the Garricks, a couple who seem to have a perfect life, in a perfect and beautiful home. The catch? Mr Garrick insists that his wife is ill and Millie is to leave her be and to not speak to her. After hearing crying through the closed bedroom door, Millie finds out something she didn’t expect and makes it her mission to help stop it.
After some questionable things happen, Millie is back to her roots for getting justice served to the right people and making them pay for their mistakes and deceits.
I loved this book and gave it a 5 star rating! I prefer The Housemaid over this one but it was still a great book and I highly recommend it. Add it to your to be read list immediately so you’ll know exactly when it’s released on Feb 20, 2023!
Thank you so much to Freida McFadden, NetGalley and Bookoture for allowing me the opportunity to read this before it releases in February!
This book was such a great book. It was very easy to follow along with. I always look forward to Freidas twists in her books. Of course this one did not disappoint. I really enjoyed each of the characters. The setting was also great. I kind of saw what was coming at first but then I was convinced maybe I was wrong.. but I’m the end I was right haha. I don’t want to give away too much detail on this book, I just suggest you read it because I definitely recommend it!
Thank you to Netgalley and Freida for allowing me to read this wonderful book before its official release in exchange for an honest review.
Ohh Freida, you've done it again!
I'd like to mention, The Housemaid, the first story in this small series, was one of my absolute favorite reads in 2022. I was so excited to see there was a sequel coming out, and even more thrilled when I was blessed with an ARC! HUGE, HUGE thanks to #Netgalley, #bookouture, and Freida herself, for allowing me the opportunity to read The Housemaid's Secret in return for my honest opinion and review!
This is the follow-up story to a woman named Millie who works mostly as a Housemaid for wealthy families. This book is set a couple years after we leave off in The Housemaid. Present day, she has a new apartment, a new boyfriend, and a new life. The book begins with Millie being a nanny for a young child; but when she gets fired from that position out of nowhere- she needs a new job and fast! Yet as an ex-con, it hasn't been easy for her to find all the best positions. To her luck, she gets hired by one of the wealthiest men in the city, Douglas Garrick! He lives with his wife in a penthouse worth more than Millie could ever imagine. Unfortunately, his wife has fallen ill and needs a little extra help around the house. He hires her to start immediately and Millie could not be happier.... but something is off. She never actually meets Mrs. Garrick until curiosity gets the best of her. As Millie uncovers a terrible truth, she is determined to help Wendy and protect her against her husband. She is not scared, but maybe she should be!
While this is a sequel, you could definitely read this book as a standalone. However, if you want all the background knowledge, make sure you read the Housemaid first. Neither book will disappoint!. In true Freida fashion, you will guess at every little thing and *think* you know what happens, before learning the truth is not what you expect at all.
Another fantastic novel, Freida! I don't know how you do it!
As always, another Frieda book I couldn’t put down! She truly has a gift for the twists!
I love nothing more than when a twist slaps me in the face that I didn’t see coming! And boy did Frieda deliver a hard slap in this one!
The book was setup the same as the Housemaid, which made me think, think italicized, I knew what was coming. But hey if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
If I had any qualms it would be the repetition in Part One: Millie thinking someone was constantly watching her and the way she treated Brock. The way Brock was treated was terrible. Let the man go already!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Amazing read from start to finish and I just couldn't put it down. This book is full of twists & turns and keeps you guessing right until the end.
Freida is an amazing author and leaves you wanting more!
The Housemaid’s Secret was even better if that’s possible than The Housemaid. Extremely hard to put down fast paced thriller. Millie is at it again! While going to school Millie picks up a job for the garricks. The plot twists in this OMG!!! I’m hoping this isn’t the last we see of Millie!!
Truly bombastic! Freida McFadden is a the reigning queen of the twist. I loved this domestic thriller and I know you will too - especially as you continue to try and guess the ending and fail!
Millie is a housemaid by trade. She has a secret past that keeps her from applying for more professionalized work. Her current job is assisting a very wealthy man with light housekeeping and meals. David claims that his wife is ill and is not to be bothered. But Milly believes that there is much more to the story,
Get ready to lose sleep with this one! If you love a twist you don't see coming, a domestic thriller that explodes like fireworks or are just a Freida McFadden Fan (and who isn't?) The Housemaid's Secret is for you!

I had big expectations for this sequel and gosh, it certainly didn’t disappoint.
It’s another fantastic page turner and I might even have enjoyed it more than the first.
It’s so clever and the twists were amazing.
One of my favourite reads this year and definitely worthy of 5 stars.
Holy moly Freida has done it again! I didn’t think the sequel could compare to the original but oh boy it blew me away! I love speculating what I think the outcome will be and then being surprised by all the well thought out and planned twists and turns of her stories!
Thank you to NetGalley, Freida McFadden and Bookouture for the ARC of The Housemaids Secret. This is my honest review. I have to say there are 3 authors that I will read without first reading the sypnosis. They are Freida McFadden, Lisa Regan and V. C. Andrews. I couldn’t wait for the second book of this series to come out. I read The Housemaid not too long ago and I loved it! I knew Millie needed a follow-up story. This one didn’t disappoint. Freida has a way of throwing twist after twist in every so often but I have to say. I actually figured this one out, albeit not until almost the end. Millie has me wanting more of her. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
