This book is the sequel that we all hoped for! In typical Freida fashion, you’ll be guessing until the end. I think it does a good job of tying in the first book so you won’t be completely lost if you didn’t read “The Housemaid” yet.
I just finished the ARC of the Housemaid’s Secret on my Kindle app. Truth is, I read it in one day because I couldn’t put it down.
Freida did an excellent job of picking up where The Housemaid left off. I’m never sure about sequels, whether it be a book or movie sequel. It always seems like the creator should have quit while they were ahead. However, today I was proven wrong.
This book has so many twists and turns, even if you DID figure it out, some way, somehow, you would definitely be questioning yourself.
Throughout the entire book I thought I had it figured out. “Freida is making it easy this time!” I foolishly thought.
This book brings out so many emotions. It can really appeal to readers of many genres.
I’m trying not to give any spoilers here, so the last thing I’m going to say is, “just read it!” There is no way you’ll be disappointed.
What an absolutely brilliant book. Frieda has outdone herself with this one. You’re immediately sucked into it with that first line and she doesn’t release that grasp until the very end. With twist after twist, she keeps you guessing (even if you know you’re likely wrong!) Following Millie around in this book is an exciting adventure, to say the least! Frieda is the type of author that keeps on giving.
The Housemaids Secret is 5/5 stars for me.
Millie is back and better than ever, the storyline for this novel is wonderful and I could not put the book down. The twist at the very end threw me for. loop. I love how the book kept my attention the whole time. McFadden has done it again. You will not be disappointed in this novel especially if you loved the first book.
“The Housemaid” was one of the first books I read in 2022, and now its sequel is one of the last. When the author posted on Instagram that the book was live on NetGalley, I jumped right on this and was so lucky to again get the ARC! I was worried going in that because the first one was so mind-blowing, that the second wouldn’t be as good. If that’s a concern of yours, throw it to the wind, because this book is also fantastic.
Millie is back, still a badass, and still a housemaid since conventional jobs can be hard to come by when you have a prison record. Trying to help people in more conventional ways has her in school studying social work, and she has a boring but dependable boyfriend, Brock. She’s now working for a new family, but that quickly changes after the child in the house started calling Millie “Mama” instead of her own obnoxious mother.
In a fit of maternal jealousy, Millie is fired and is once again in need of a new housekeeping position. She soon gets a call from Doug Garrick, whose wife has fallen ill and he now needs help around the house. Doug is handsome and kind, if not slightly demanding, but Millie never gets to see Wendy, the ailing wife. Until she does, and just like the first book, the story turns completely upside down and around.
I didn’t know how the author would be able to make a fresh storyline if she used the same layout of Part One, THE BIG TWIST, then Part Two like in the first book - but she pulled it off. While this is about the same person and the story is laid out the same way, this is a completely different book…and it was just as great as the first, with so many twists that had my jaw dropping and even had me laughing.
One thing I forgot about the original Housemaid book was how darkly funny it was in places, and this one was the same. It had the same layout, the same crazy amount of twists, but this was a completely fresh and original story. Five stars, hands down, and I can’t wait to see what happens in book three!!
(Thank you to Bookouture, Freida McFadden, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on February 20, 2023.)
This is a great follow up to The Housemaid. I enjoyed this one as much, if not more than, the first. The characters are developed so that you grow to love or hate each one of them. The story has twists throughout that keep you engaged and trying to guess what’s next. You will not want to put this book down!!
There has been only 2 times in my life that I thought the sequel was better than the original.
First was the Ghostbusters. If you know, you know.
Second was The Housemaid. Holy straight up rollercoaster, Batman. Straight up, then sideways, plummeting down into darkness, sh00ting straight back up again and then safely landing with a smile.
Millie is back at it with another whack job in this exciting sequel. Must like the first- you will go through every emotion imaginable. Especially hatred towards specific characters, in true McFadden fashion.
Thank you, Freida & NetGalley!
Another great book by my favorite author, Freida McFadden! I loved all the twist and turns right up to the last chapter. I love Freida’s style of storytelling. This book kept my attention all the way through. I couldn’t put it down. Thanks Freida for another awesome book!

If you loved The Housemaid, you will love The Housemaid’s Secret. In this sequel (please let these turn into a series), Millie has taken a job handling the housework in a gazillionaire’s penthouse. But, there is one rule: Do not enter the guest room on the second floor. Rules never apply to Millie, so when she hears shouting and crashing from the room, she takes the first opportunity to see if the wife is okay. This may mean losing her job, but Millie always helps helpless women. Then Frieda starts throwing in the twists and I couldn’t put the book down. It’s a five star book and I highly recommend it to thriller-lovers! Don’t miss this one.

This was a solid follow up to the, The Housemaid, which was my first Freida McFadden book. I loved that Enzo returned in this book and we got to see more of him. As always there were great twists, turns, and just overall fun at the story playing out. I love Millie’s character and seeing how other people perceive her. Thank you to NetGalley, Frieda McFadden, and Bookature for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
Although Millie is an ex-con, she is also an advocate for women working towards a degree in social work. Because of her past, she supports herself by doing domestic work for wealthy clients who don't bother with a background check. Her new job cleaning and cooking for Douglas and Wendy Garrick proves that if something seems to good to be true it probably is.
I read The Housemaid immediately before reading The Housemaid's Secret. Initially I was disappointed as it seemed as though Secret was telling the same story with different characters. However, Freida McFadden can always be counted on for unexpected plot twists, and after the first one (yes, there are more!) the story really takes off.
Although it would be better to read The Housemaid first as there are some characters that appear in both books, enough background is given that The Housemaid's Secret could be read as a standalone. Just don't start reading at night if you have something important to do the next morning because Freida McFadden's books are always difficult to put down.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an eGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Guys! Once again, my girl Freida has given us an amazing psychological thriller!! I don’t know how she manages to do it EVERY. 👏🏻SINGLE. 👏🏻 TIME. 👏🏻 But she certainly does!! This book was the sequel to The Housemaid (my favorite book like ever!) that we as fans, never even knew we needed, until now!! Millie is back for another adventure and believe me, it does NOT disappoint! I’m not going to say anything about the plot. Just know you should read The Housemaid before reading this. If you are a Freida Fanatic like me, you already know what to expect. A great thriller that will grab you literally from the first line and keep you engaged and wanting more the entire book. You know there will be multiple POVs and multiple twists that will have your jaw hitting the floor. And you know there will always be an game changing epilogue. Need I say more? It’s always a fun, quick, fantastic ride with Freida’s books and this book is no exception. Hold on to your jaws, because they will drop and this is definitely a jaw dropping ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars for me!! Loved. It. So. Much!!
Thank you to Freida herself, 🙏🏻 and @netgalley and @bookouture for this ARC. It truly was amazing and meant so much to receive this early copy.
I am a big fan of Freida McFadden’s books. The Housemaid was the first book I read by her and remains one of my favorites so I have been counting down the days until the sequel’s scheduled release date in February. Needless to say, I was beyond excited to get my hands on The Housemaid’s Secret.
Like many of Freida’s books, this one was full of exciting twists I never saw coming. I love Millie’s character and was excited to see some other familiar names in this book. Since The Housemaid, Millie has become a college student working toward a degree in social work while working part time housekeeping jobs to stay afloat. She takes a job cleaning for a new family that isn’t as perfect as it seems so she has to decide whether or not to intervene. The twists and turns take off from there. Nothing is as it seems and I had no idea who to trust. This was a fun five star read for me.
I would like to thank Freida McFadden and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it! .
Millie and Enzo, the dynamic duo... Freida has done it again with another book you don't want to put down.. I read it in less than a day. No spoilers but I didn't see that ending coming and even went back and read it again to make sure I read it correctly.
Frieda McFadden never disappoints. I didn’t think she would be able to top the housemaid but finishing the sequel I was sadly mistaken.
This book had so many twists and turns, so many times I thought I knew how it ended but was fooled. I DEVOURED this book quicker than I ever read any other book.
I was sucked in. I loved Millie more in this book than I already did in the last book. This one took more for a ride and I’m not sure if I’ll ever love another author as much as I love her.
You get to see how she spent her time after the first book, you get to see her try a new relationship, get to see her fall in love, and you get to see her be a bad ass all over again. I loved every second of it.
I will forever recommend this book. Read the Housemaid and then pick this one up! You will not be disappointed!
Another phenomenal read by Freida McFadden! This author is now officially an auto-buy author for me. This is the third book I’ve read by her and third one I loved! I read this in one day, it was so gripping!
Millie has moved on with her life after her boyfriend returns home to look after his sick mother. Millie’s new boyfriend is perfect on paper, but she hasn’t come clean about her past. She manages to find a job for a wealthy couple but is forbidden to check on the wife at any time. Millie feels compelled to help her employer’s wife when she finds out he’s been abusive. This endangers not just the wife, Wendy, but Millie also , who has already sensed that she’s being watched and followed.
The double (or triple?) twists blew my mind! Definitely a 5 star read for me!
This is the second book in a series and I truly hope it continues.
I was ecstatic when NetGalley and Bookouture approved my request for an ARC of Frieda McFadden’s next release the Housemaid’s Secret in exchange for my honest review! And honestly, I’ll be buying a physical copy when it’s released 20 Feb 2023!!!
As always, Freida delivers a quick read with a great plot. If you enjoyed The Housemaid, you’ll absolutely love The Housemaids Secret. The only reason I’m rating it a 4 instead of a 5-star rating is because this is the first Freida book I’ve read where I guessed all of the twists (other than the very last one). I was hoping for a bit “more” in terms of shock value, but that won’t stop me from recommending this book. It was a really enjoyable read, and Freida will forever be one of my favorite writers.
Pros: I've pretty much binged McFadden this year and have to say, this is in my top three faves of her works!
Millie is at it again, but not is as smooth as it has been. I appreciated the efforts she had to switch her life around and become more, especially after what happened in The Housemaid.
I also love her personality! It's so well written, as is the overall plot. I will not lie - the twists and turns weren't predictable to me at all and I said, "what the f---" more than once, which is a good thing! I didn't want this book to end. The details were subtle but huge in the grand scheme of things!
You absolutely must read The Housemaid before reading this one, as the slapstick references going back to the first are priceless! "I'd rather have pulled my own tooth out with pliers..."
Cons: for once... I can't think of any. This is my standard review format, so I guess if you're not big into domestic abuse and violence, don't read? But then again, you wouldn't be interested in this book if those things bothered you!
Conclusion: this is now a book I need to add to my personal library (I was an ARC reader via Netgalley). I loved how everything and everyone was written, how I never stopped thinking about it when I had to put it down, and how twisty and beautifully tied up it was!
See my Instagram review in the link attached!
This book was every bit of what I was expecting and then some, absolutely incredible! It hooked me right from the start and kept me glued to it until the very end. As I was reading I could feel myself reading faster and faster as if I couldn’t read fast enough because I was so into what was happening as the story played out. It was twisty in the best ways. I truly loved this book, Freida has once again done it! Very much highly recommend. Also can we turn this into a super long series that never ends? IT WAS THAT GOOD! 😂❤️🏆⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Maleficent Millie is at it again!
I was beyond excited to get my hands on an early copy of the sequel to The Housemaid!
Millie is one of those characters you can’t get out of your mind. When you first meet Millie in book one, it’s like you’re on a blind date. By the end of the book, you know it’s been a successful date and you can’t wait to have a second one. THAT’s what book two is like; a confirmation that Millie is truly maleficent and you can’t wait to see more of her.
Be assured that this is Freida McFadden at the top of her game. This sequel is packed with everything we expect from a great suspense and is worthy of pre-ordering! My heart was pounding, my hands were feverishly turning pages and a gasp and evil cackle escaped by lips more than once!
You deserve to go into this book blind; hence, the vague review.
Thank you to the wonderful team at Bookouture for the advance copy. I was gifted this book with no obligation to review.
