This story is told in dual POV from the mothers view. The mothers are at odds because one child accuses the other of a criminal act. It tests the families strength as they try to keep their own family together while at the same time fights for their child. With hints of Jodi Picoult, this book will engage you from the first page. The family dynamics are very well written and you can relate to both families. An excellent and emotional read.

Another thought provoking read by Hewitt. In this one two best friends may be torn apart when the worst thing possible happens between their children. Rose and Cara keep an annual tradition of a beach BBQ , but this year things aren’t going well and the adults head home and leave the young teenagers behind. What happens next is unclear but Bella makes an accusation and the ladies friendship is tested like never before. I found this one hard to put down and seen both sides of the situation. Tissues to the ready. A solid read.

I received an advance copy of That Night at the Beach by Kate Hewitt from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. WOW! I'm not sure what I expected when I read this but I was blown away and finished it wondering what any of us would do to protect our children. You will be pulled into this book the moment you read the first page and will NOT be able to put it down until you finish it. I loved it!

Kate Hewitt is back with a heart-wrenching emotional drama that will keep readers in thrall from start to finish: That Night at The Beach.

Cara and Rose have been the best of friends for years. When Labor Day weekend comes around, the two friends and their families all meet up for a barbecue picnic on the beach where they eat good food, watch the fireworks and enjoy spending time in one another’s company. This year, however, far from having a relaxing picnic, everything goes awry as tempers flare, old secrets emerge and tensions run high. The adults decide to call it a day and head back home and they tell their teenage kids that they will pick them up in an hour or two. However, what neither Cara or Rose realize is that a shocking event is going to unfold that is going to have devastating consequences for both their two families.

When Cara goes to pick the kids up, she can immediately sense that something is wrong. Her teenage offspring are slurring their words, stumbling to the car and seem unsettled and uneasy. Cara wonders whether they had some kind of fight in her absence, however, what emerges the next morning shakes the foundation of her entire world and pulls the rug out from under her feet: seventeen year old Bella claims that Cara’s son Finn assaulted her. Naturally, Cara is completely flabbergasted. She knows that Finn would not do something so heinous. But why would Bella lie? Is she telling the truth? Finn insists that he’s innocent, but could he have committed such a horrific act?

As two lifelong friends are torn apart determined to do whatever it takes to protect their child, will Cara and Rose ever uncover the truth about what happened that night at the beach? Or will discovering the secrets behind Bella’s attack end up being a matter of life and death for their two children?

Kate Hewitt is such a fantastic storyteller. She writes emotionally complex family dramas that brilliantly explore her characters’ inner lives and leave readers on the edge of their seats desperate to find out what happens next. That Night at the Beach is an absorbing, engrossing and astute page-turner that I struggled to put down. A fantastic tale of friendship, lies, secrets and deception that grips like a vise, That Night at the Beach continues to confirm Kate Hewitt’s standing as an outstanding storyteller.

Another compelling read for Kate Hewitt. It is the story of two families and their relationships. Cara and Rose both met at a Mother and Baby classes and have been firm friends ever since but find that as their children are now teenagers they have grown apart. Michael and Henry, their husbands, have never really hit it off and have a strained relationship. It is the annual beach barbecue, no one seems to be enjoying it and when there is a disagreement between the parents they leave their children to play around on the beach. When a serious assault takes place all their lives are placed in turmoil. Who is telling the truth of what really happened? The story is told from Cara and Rose’s points of view and explores the heartbreak of these events. It is a very emotional and thought provoking read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

There are so many words I could use to describe this book. Heartbreaking, enlightening and intoxicating, being a few, I couldn’t stop reading, as I needed to know how the story would end.

It was so intriguing, making me question everybody and everything I was introduced to during the book. There was also so much tension and I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book.

Overall, this was such a powerful read and I’m excited to read more from the author in the future. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher, for a chance to read and review this book.

I absolutely love Kate Hewitt and her writing style and this book proves to be no different. Two families that have been friends for years are torn apart by a certain event. The book is told in POV of both mother's trying to protect their children. The author knows how to write about sensitive topics. The ending shocked me, but that his nothing new. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for Hewitt's next novel.

I’ve read a few books by this author and loved them, I didn't think I was going to enjoy this one so much. I felt the story did drag a bit in the middle, but overall, a good story with relevant issues in today’s culture of peer pressure and social media. Important lessons are contained for those open minded enough to see them.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
