What a great read. Loved it from start to finish. Can't wait to read more from this author.
Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read book. While I got the book for free, it has no bearing on the resting I have it.
This was a very emotional read. I really enjoyed it but it got a little bit slow and repetitive after the first few chapters. I was going to give up on it but the prologue was interesting and I wanted to know what happened and I'm glad I read the whole book.
Rose and Cara get together once a year for a beach barbeque with their families. They have been friends since they met at a mother's and baby group but over the years their friendship has drifted apart. Something happens between two of the kids which cause a big chain of events and changes everyone's lives.
This is the first book I read by this author and I'll be reading more of her books.
Another great book from this author which I couldn't stop reading. The characters were good and it kept me involved in the storyline from the beginning until the end.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC which I can definitely recommend.
As she sits by a hospital bed Cara reflects on how a twenty year friendship can be shattered within a few traumatic weeks.
As quoted in the book " not one mistake that led us here but a series of good intentions as well as wrong decisions"
Misconceptions, recriminations and misunderstanding are the nature of this book, a case of who to believe, is it as clear as each parent thinks.
I love Kate's books, she has the ability to take you into the heart of her characters and the storyline. A thought provoking read
Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. The book started out strong, but then just drug on and on and on. I ended up moving from like page 100 to page 220 to hurry it up, and I didn't miss a thing. I feel the tranisition from the story back to the hospital wasn't the smoothest. Overall, it was ok. But the chapter seem to drag on with info we didn't need.
This is my first by this author and I hate to say that I wasn't too impressed. I picked this up several times before finally trudging through it. I couldn't stay focused but that's not to say this author isn't good, it's just not for me. She is a great author with detailed, intricate writing and this story was well put together. It's so hard to rate a book when I know it's just me and not in my taste. So I am reviewing this solely on her writing and overall story. Her characters were extremely well developed, each with their own detailed backstory. This was realistic and quite sad. It showed the depths of a mother's love for her children making you wonder what you would do or feel in that very situation. Although it wasn't in my taste, that definitely isn't to say it's not for someone else. Four Stars.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
Intense and thought provoking, this is a real heart wrenching read. Really well written and believable. I really enjoyed it.
Rose and Cara have been friends for nearly two decades though the friendship has been fracturing a bit in recent years. Their annual Labor Day barbecue at the beach with their families goes astray when the next morning, one child is accusing another of sexual assault. Rose and Cara are both fiercely protective of their children, but full of questions of "how did this happen"?
The story itself was good. I think Kate Hewitt writes in a very thought provoking manner. However, there were some side stories that I didn't think added anything- the issues with both of their marriages seemed unnecessary though in the end, I suppose it tied things together neatly. But throughout much of the book, those issues felt out of place. Regardless, I will look forward to reading more from the author.
Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for access to this ARC.
Now this book I really enjoyed!!This book has a palpable tension that keeps the pages turning…..simply brilliant… I had to finish this marvellous book in one sitting! Taut and incredibly suspenseful, every moment is perfectly crafted to keep me wanting more. An engrossing, spine-tingling read! An absolutely gripping and totally addictive thriller that will keep you racing through the pages all night long. Five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In this super intense, tangled, heartbreaking novel about two families, Kate Hewitt has skillfully written a complex story showing us how various motivations, beliefs, and misunderstandings can quickly lead to tragedy destroying friendships and families. While the topics are difficult to read, the book is very hard to put down without reading in one sobbing gulp. .
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this amazing ARC.
Wow! I did not guess the ending of this novel…family and friends…siblings…spouses…teenagers…secrets and more secrets. This gifted author has written a cannot put down book of fiction that reads like nonfiction. This is a page turner…a cannot put down book… the characters come alive on the pages…what really happened? He said…she said…friends forever are not sure they can sustain their friendship. A spouse keeps things from his wife that makes their family life impossible…teenagers are not sure if they know what happened… do not miss this book of suspense. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review.
