This isn't a romance, but it does have a happy ending, or the possibility of one, I'll give you that. If you want happy, stick to romance. Erotica's main concern is with delving into the human psyche and exploring it, and sex is a major part of that. You can't truly understand humans without understanding the sexual side of our natures. This I can appreciate, when it's done well, as it was here. The sadness, though: that's harder to read.
