Sarah Adams puts crack in her books. I’m certain of it 🫠
Annie is the baby of her family, the sweet angel in town and the one everybody underestimates. She has dreams of staying her her small town, settling down and getting married. Until she meets Will Griffin, her sister in law’s bad boy bodyguard who flips her world upside down and makes her realize the persona of herself she’s been portraying is all wrong.
It’s rare that I read a book and absolutely love both main characters but I LOVE both Will and Annie SO MUCH 🥹 For as opposite as they are, I related to both of them in very specific ways.
This book was absolutely hilarious, i cackled so many times while also completely swooning and kicking my feet like a little girl. No spice/high swoon 🫠 This series is so much fun, I’m so excited to see which sister is next 😏
Tropes:
opposites attract
bad boy/good girl
reformed playboy
small town
fake dating/dating lessons
meddling friends
“I’m tired of everyone so neatly placing me in a box and tying a silk ribbon around it and then telling me to sit and stay.”
I love Sarah Adams. I LOVE Sarah Adams.
I binged most of her books at the start of 2022 and was so excited to see this one out. Somehow I missed the first book in the series but after the first chapter I knew I’d be going back to read it as soon as possible.
Annie is an adorably awkward florist who just wants to get married and live a happy life (don’t we all) like her deceased parents did. The issue is how introverted and socially awkward she is. I’m not sure I’ve ever instantly connected with a character as much as I did here.
It should be illegal for fade-to-black romances to have this much chemistry but I’ll keep coming back for it every time. This was the best ride to go on.
Sarah Adams never misses! Practice Makes Perfect was such a cute book. I loved it so much and I was so excited to have a continuation of When in Rome!!
SARAH ADAMS!!! girl you freaking did the dang thing with this book. It was a binge-worthy story. I loved the history of Anniebanana + Wilber/will/William. They are the SWEETEST couple and their story just made me turn into a puddle. I loved the rough and tough exterior of Will but was a complete heart throb for Annie. I loved that Annie started off quiet and hardly spoke up for herself and the ending she found her voice, spoke up for herself and went after what she wanted. I can take a wild guess who’s the MMC/FMC in your next book, but that’s another topic for another day!
Loved this book so so much, thank you again!
4.5 only cause she has soft blue eyes in case you didn’t know. Overall, this is a wonderful romance book. I think Sarah did a great job writing the main characters growth and that is where her descriptive writing shined. Will and Annie are goals. Having a Will is a goal. This is another author that just progresses so much with each book. Read it.

Don't mind me while I swoon over this wonderful book. It was so sweet and I loved it so much. I was a bit nervous because I usually dislike the "I'm not a relationship guy" trope. I usually find it super annoying and ridiculous, However in this book it's done so well and stems from trauma.
As much as I loved both the characters Will and Annie, Annie's family and the town of Rome is so incredibly charming and just as loveable. I can't get enough of the residents all being so protective of Annie. I also absolutely love the sibling marrying a famous person trope. This is the second book I have read with this and it's just really lovely.
I highly recommend this book to any fans of contemporary romance. This book was just so great and I will definitely will add it to my reread list,
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Ballantine for this advanced reader copy. My review is voluntarily my own.
I will be posting my review to my Instagram page the.floofs.booknook and retail sites.
Another home run! Humor, heart warming moments, guy stands up for his girl. I’m all about this latest release!
Sarah Adams writes the sweetest rom coms. I loved this one.
what to expect:
- bodyguard + flower shop owner
- small town vibes
- opposites attract
- real life themes throughout
I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to read this book and it did not disappoint. I am in love with Annie. I could relate a lot to her. I cannot wait to listen to the audiobook tomorrow I already have it preordered.
a romcom where the characters actually communicate?? that doesn’t have a third-act break up due to an absurd misunderstanding!!!?? truly like finding a needle in a haystack. Practice Makes Perfect is an absolute gem
Thanks to Dell and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thank-you to Net Galley, author Sarah Adams, and Random House -Ballantine for an ARC. This book is a perfect romcom!
This book warmed my introverted heart. As someone who is a caretaker of her family. I identified with our main characters.
Will is Annie's future sister in law's bodyguard. Annie has a tiny crush on Will. Amelia (sis-in-law) asks Will to be Annie's dating coach. He accepts and Annie does as well. Will discovers Annie's love of pirate romances and banana pajamas. Annie discovers Will's heart.
This book was well written and I loved the pace of it. I don't want to give the book away but the town becomes invested in Will's and Annie's romance. The ending was perfection.
Annie struggles to find date-worthy men in a small town with few prospects. She seeks the help of a handsome bodyguard to teach her how to flirt—and the lines begin to blur between friendship and something more.
Despite their reputations, Annie isn't really a good girl, and Will isn't really a bad boy. The attraction between them is strong, and the relationship respectful. This is a fun, flirty romance about breaking free of expectations and becoming your true self.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This is my first Sarah Adams book and it was sweet like candy. It gave me Hallmark Movie vibes from start to finish. I loved the batter and dialogue between Annie and Will. "What makes you think my name is William?' he says. "Fine. Please give me the letter, Wilson," Annie whispers in return. Annie goes on the call him Wilbert, Wilbur, Wilfred etc. This had me laughing on the floor. It's a very sweet and wholesome read that keep me interested the whole way through. Can we talk about how cute the cover is? It depicts Will to a T with the tattoos and confident stand and the background is divine. I enjoyed the dual POV, small town romance, and female friend relationships. There are a few triggers mentioned in the book to be aware of parental death, mentions of toxic parental relationships and dysfunctional childhood
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House PublishingGroup/Ballentine/Dell for the ARC.

For full transparency, I was unaware that this was a sequel to another book so maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I read the first one. But I DNF’d this about 30% in because the characters, although in their mid thirties, felt pretty immature and even naïve. I lost any interest in finishing this book up.
I read Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams this week and it was an easy closed door romance that I was for sure in need of after the heavy angsty romance books I’d been reading this week.
Practice Makes Perfect was a stand alone continuation of When In Rome. This time around, it is Noah Walker’s younger sister Annie whose the main character with Amelia’s (Rae Rose) own bodyguard as Annie’s leading man.
We all remember Annie as the shy book worm who captured our hearts and who we all knew could be more than the “Angel Annie” role she was forced into.
Getting to know Annie and watch her grow throughout this book, and have Will Griffin go from not wanting to ever be in a relationship to watching him fall head over heels was perfect.
Love love love love! First, super refreshing to see characters discuss things and talk it all out like adults. Second, after getting a glimpse of these two in When in Rome, it was great to see them fleshed out and also see how Noah and Amelia are doing too. Bonus for pirate romances. Cannot wait for the next!

4.5 stars
What a lovely book! Sarah Adams does small town romances so well and was waiting for the day that I could read the next book after When in Rome. Located in Rome, Kentucky we follow Annie Walker, the sister of Noah from the previous book. She is sweet and kind and a goody two shoes. While on a terrible date she runs into Will Griffin, her soon to be sister in law's old body guard. From there a wild opposites attract relationship begins. At first Will agrees to be her dating tutor, as Annie is looking to practice dating and find the man of her dreams. But eventually we see an opposites attract relationship blossom before our eyes. Annie is consistently lovely, but she gains an edge to her over and Will starts off as cold but becomes so incredibly tender. They are two wonderful characters that match each other perfectly.
At this point if Sarah Adams is writing it, i'll read it!
Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams is the second book in the Rome, Kentucky universe. This book follows Annie, one of the sisters of the love interest in "When in Rome" and Griffin, a man who refuses to fall in love. Can anything spark between a florist and a bodyguard?
I loved reading about a couple who cares for each other, doesn't want to hurt each other, and avoids the miscommunication trope. Often you just scream at characters TO TALK. This book avoided this trope like a plague, and I am so very grateful!!
I know this isn't the author's style for this series, but I would've preferred for this to not be closed doors, but I understand the need for non-spicy books and this was perfectly cute!
I really related to Annie and her story made me hopeful :)
Thank you Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Dell for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have been a Sarah Adams fan since the beginning and have adored all her books! But Will + Annie, I'm going to say it, have my whole heart. What an absolute delight of a book that I binged in about 24 hours. Everything Sarah writes has me smiling, swooning, and feeling all the feels.
I forgot how much I loved small town. The inhabitants of Rome, Kentucky are absolute perfection. Adams did a great job of bringing you back to Rome, making you remember why you love it, and seeing just enough of our favorite characters from When in Rome. All the while setting a new stage and love story with two fantastic characters. I loved watching Annie grow through these pages while Will learns that his past does not define his future.
I can’t say enough good things about this one. I was literally laughing out loud and then having misty eyes, sometimes all in the same chapter. I thought When in Rome was Sarah at her best, but she just keeps getting better. I’d give anything to take a trip to meet these characters in this hilarious small town she has created. I hope I get a chance to visit Rome again because I can’t get enough.
Pick this one up if you like:
-Small Town Romance
-Faking Dating/Dating Couch
-Friends to Lovers
-Loveable and meddlesome side characters
-Laugh out loud moments
-Swoon worthy tattooed bodyguards
I am probably Sarah Adam’s #1 fan so it is no surprise that this was an easy five-star for me! I mean Will and Annie, COME ON! THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE TOGETHER! I related to Annie in a lot of ways so it was so fun to watch her discover herself throughout the book. Will is going to have to take the cake for my favorite Sarah Adam’s book boyfriend! He was seriously perfect. Like who doesn’t love a tattooed bad boy who ends up being a giant cinnamon roll?
As always, I love all of the quirky details that are built into Sarah’s books. The pirate books and banana pajamas were the perfect touch. It was also great being back in Rome, KY! I truly wish this was an actual town I could visit. If you are looking for a fluffy, happy romance book, this is it!
