Jeff Sharlet’s The Undertow offers a unique look into the far-right world. Sharlet’s essays are unique in political journalism but I came away feeling empathy. The essays are beautifully written and the interviews are done with respect and empathy while at the same time disturbing.
I will buy this book to finish later, as I did not manage to finish this in time - but it is in line with my interests and I will consider connecting with the author regarding an interview on craft.
Another brilliant undertaking by Jeff Sharlet, this book is a hair-raising examination of how a certain subsection of Americans, larger than some of us would like to imagine, have invested themselves in a belief in fascism that has them preparing for a civil war they are fantasizing about, hoping for, and propagating into reality.
I never fully connected with The Undertow but not because of Jeff Sharlet or his writing. I honestly have grown tired of books about politics because of the constant debate and arguments that come from it and while Sharlet’s book is full of superb information and research I never felt I wanted to keep reading it.
