**I want to start by being fully transparent; I received this as an ARC from publisher and NetGalley BUT that does NOT sway my feelings/opinions at all. This is a fully unbiased review formed from my own thoughts after reading. Thank you NetGalley and publisher for allowing me this eARC copy**
I do not like why-choose, BUT, this book was pretty cute and I was hooked. Such a fun fast read and will definitely get you out of your slump
Thank you netgalley for this arc!
Unfortunately, I didn’t love this the way I hoped. The plot didnt grab me, at times it felt unrealistic and without proper balance. I don’t consider myself a snob or even picky by any means, but this was not my cup of tea. It was cute at best, at times.
I struggled to get into this. The characters didn’t feel relatable, and generally annoyed me, and the romance kind of felt forced.
I was given an ARC by NetGalley and HarperCollins Children’s. All opinions are my own.
Thanks to Netgalley for giving me access to an arc. I found this to be such a cute book. I’m not sure I would revisit it but I enjoyed it for what it was and I did like the characters.
Julieta and the Romeos taps into several popular tropes:
Boy Next Door
Best Friends Brother
Rivals
New Guy in Town
Mystery love interest
It's a quadruple summer romance for Julieta and it's light and fun and fluttery.
The grounding of the storyline is the failing family restaurant that Julieta's parents own and operate. Being the eldest and first generation born in the US, Julieta feels the burden of people pleasing and working to make it successful. There a a big coming-of-age thread and Andreu does a nice job of having the adults in this book step up and remind Julieta that she's not responsible for the success and happiness of the adults in her life.
The 'heroes' are all loveable and good 'options' for her and I was happy (and not surprised) at both the 'secret' writing partner and the "chosen" one. There is no heartache to be had here, so if your patron is looking for something that is light but not completely fluffy, this is a great fit.
Good for fans of Emma Lord's "Tweet Cute," I think.
Thanks so much for the ARC!
There's so much I loved about this book. To start, I could picture Julieta with any of the Romeos and I had an idea at one point who she might choose but it was a toss up almost until the end! The building of each romance was sweet and brought out another side of Julieta and another potential future of her. I also enjoyed Julieta's writings added throughout the story that made the book more connected to Julieta as a character. Then underneath the main romance plot there's the story of her family's struggling restaurant and the weight Julieta feels to help it survive. It was a very compelling storyline that actually use the pandemic in a way that was realistic. I loved it all! Definitely will be reading more by Maria Andreu!
This was such a light, cute read! I was able to figure out which guy she would end up with, but I wasn't disappointed. The characters were all great, and I loved Julieta as a narrator. I totally did not guess the writer, so props for that!
Julieta is a typical oldest sibling with dreams and wants that are overshadowed by the need for perfection. While I found this irritating at times, overall she was a lovely narrator and this book was a delight to read. She did pick my favorite of the Romeos, but watching her grow and learn through a summer of *almost* romance was a lot of fun. The family aspect was great and a fun peek into the world of a family running a restaurant. Her writing snippets throughout the book help to see how she processes the world and furthers the story, which rarely happens with letters/quotes between chapters so this was a pleasant surprise. I look forward to seeing more from Maria Andreu as her characters and story were very well done an easy to get sucked into
Thank you Netgalley and Harper Collins for allowing me to read and review this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I fell in love with Love In English when it first came out and I've been looking forward to Maria E. Andreu's next release.
Julieta and the Romeos is a summery read with a lot of heart and soul.
Over the summer Julieta goes to a writing class for aspiring writers. She has big dreams of traveling, doing author events, and proving to her family that being an author is not a waste. Inbetween the writing classes and working at her family's restaurant, she is given the assignment to post her writing online. An anonymous person asks to collaborate with Julieta and finish the story with her. Julieta has no idea who could be working with her but her imagination runs wild when she begins to believe it might one of three guys: Ryan, her best friends brother and rival, Calvin, a neighbor next door to her Abuela, and Lucas, a childhood friend who works at the restaurant with Julieta. With the help of her best friend Ivy, she tries to narrow down who it could be while also trying to save her family's restaurant from going under.
Julieta and the Romeos is a sweet romantic story about finding yourself and figuring out who you want to be after graduation. There are a lot of cute moments between all three of the guys and I liked how each one is different. I did have a slightly hard time believing the connections of two of them so I'm very happy with who Julieta picks in the end because I feel like they had the most chemistry.
While I liked the romance and the hunt for who could be the anonymous person, I loved reading the bonding scenes between Julieta and her family. Especially the chapter with her Abuela towards the end, after the anonymous person is revealed. It was a very tender and beautiful conversation and it made me miss my own grandmother who passed a couple of years ago.
I had a hunch of who the anonymous writer would be, about 45% in, and while I was right, it didn't hinder my experience or ruin my enjoyment of reading this book.
I definitely recommend Julieta and the Romeos to those who love a light summer read. I was able to finish this book in a few hours time and the pacing is spot-on.
4.75 stars
This book was really good. I liked that Julieta learned a lot about herself. I thought her family was great, especially Abuela Bubbles. At times I genuinely could picture her with all all three of the potential love interests, though I am happy with how the story ended. While I usually don't like when books include stories that the characters are writing, I actually enjoyed Julieta's writing, especially the poetry. This book was enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it.
This was an adorable young adult romcom for the summer. I loved the characters and the writing in the book. It was a nice twist to have a little mystery and really getting to see the characters writing while she was at the summer writing course. This was a fast paced romance that will be a joy for those looking for something light and quick.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book!!
I really enjoyed this book and the story. It’s about Julieta who goes to a writing camp during the summer. During the camp, they encourage each writer to publish their work online and one day she gets a mysterious reviewer. I love that this story is about a writer and how it hits 3 different tropes!! Enemies to lovers, boy next door, and oldest friend while also hitting Taylor Swift!! All the references speak to my soul!!
This is a really cute easy read that I recommend!
Julieta and the Romeos by Maria E. Andreu is a sweet and swoony contemporary Young Adult novel.
A fun and seriously engaging YA rom-com that has me glued to my Kindle from the very beginning.
Julieta was an absolute blast. I adored her character, loved her personality and wanted her to just be happy.
The characters in this story are likable, the book kept my interest Andreu won't let you down.
The entire story was just written so well.
A heartfelt novel that really pulls at the feels.
Overall, this was a cute read and I enjoyed it.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
Thank You NetGalley and Balzer + Bray for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Julieta is a writer. She joins a summer writing course and her teacher encourages her to publish her work online. She wasn’t expecting someone who goes by the name of Happily Ever Drafter to contribute to her work. She goes crazy trying to figure out who it could be. She also can’t help noticing the three men in her life. Her best friends brother who just so happens to be her nemesis. Her childhood best friend who turned hot overnight. And the boy next door to her abuela. Could one of them be Happily Ever Drafter?
This was a super cute and fast read. I really enjoyed the writing aspect of the book and how we could read some of Julieta’s work. I loved the mystery aspect of the story as well. It didn’t go where I was expecting at all! The romance was cute to!
If you’re looking for a super cute and fun rom-com for the summer then I highly recommend picking this one up when it’s released!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc!
I enjoyed reading Julieta and the Romeos by Maria E. Andreu; it was a quick read. Julieta is a great protagonist!
I received an ARC copy from netgallery for an honest review. All the opinions expressed in this review are mine and mine alone.
This book was not what I was expecting in a good way. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't put it down. This book was full of surprises and kept you guessing until the end! This is one book you don't want to miss!
Thank you NetGalley and Alloy Entertainment for the opportunity to review an Advance Reader Copy of Julieta and the Romeos.
This is the first work of fiction I’ve read that works the pandemic into the story, and author Maria Andreu does so masterfully.
Julieta is a fabulous protagonist. Her voice rings true. A creative teenager with a passion for writing searches through clues to discover who her secret admirer is.
Is it her abuela’s new neighbor, the young man who helps her grandmother while watching telenovelas to learn Spanish?
Or the friend who’s grown up by her side from the beginning?
Or her best friend’s twin brother, the guy who stole her chance at Class President?
Readers live the story through Julieta as she works on her dream of being a writer through summer workshop.
In the end, Julieta learns the truth, but she learns more about herself than anything else.
Julieta and the Romeos is a love story. A story of friendship and family and heartbreak and hard work and dreams and learning what really matters. It’s a beautiful novel that captures the young adult voice so perfectly. I loved it!
Highly recommend!
Julieta and the Romeos was a cute and quircky read. I did feel the permise was slightly better than how the story actually unfolded. I felt like the book left me wanting more and yet I did not not finish the book so, I gave it three stars for keeping my attention.
I didn't realize this was a YA book when I started reading it. The characters felt super young and I did not care for them. I didn't find this book or the writing very enjoyable. I found myself board while reading this one. I didn't really feel a romantic connection between the characters. This book just wasn't for me.
Taylor Swift songs: “Glitch”, “Fearless (TV)”
I really enjoyed this new YA twist on “You’ve Got Mail”!! I don’t want to get too much into the tropes or the Taylor Songs, because I don’t want to spoil who she does or doesn’t end up with, but the love interests are: boy next door, childhood best friend, or best friend’s grumpy brother (her nemesis)!! All equally good options/tropes if you ask me!! This author would be good for fans of Emma Lord!! (I really liked the writing style!)
I liked how it was about a writer as well, so we got to see a couple of the main character’s writing pieces as we went through, as well as the piece that she posted to what is basically Wattpad, with her mystery editor’s responses to them!
I also liked seeing her family’s restaurant and their Argentinian culture represented throughout the book!
Overall, super sweet Romcom, with a bunch of character growth, and 3 swoony love interest options, so you can’t go wrong.
Age rating: 13+ (not steamy, no language)
Thank you Netgalley for the advanced reader ebook copy in exchange for an honest review!
