This was really cute.

Julieta's family owns a restaurant. Her parents were immigrants from Argentina. The restaurant did well until the pandemic and another Argentinian restaurant opening up. Jules can see the stress affecting her parents. She wants to find ways to help, but she's also doing a writing class with one of her favorite authors. Jules wants to be a writer. When she uploads the start of a story to a website, someone asks if they can collaborate. Jules thinks that this might be a guy close to her and she wants her own love story. Lucas has been her friend since they were young. Calvin is new to town and lives next door to her grandma. He helps fix things there and watches tv with her grandma and it seems like she's trying to set them up. Ryan is her best friend Ivy's brother. They have never really gotten along, but he's in her writing class. They start spending a lot of time together and Jules realizes that she really likes him. But instead of deciding which boy she likes most, she obsesses with her mystery writer. There were times I wanted to smack her and tell her to chose a boy. But I did like how each of them made her feel different. I also liked the focus on friendship and what happens to teenage friendships when another relationship starts.

I gave this book 4 stars.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my earc.

This YA romcom was such a delight with the tenderest of romances, a clever mystery, and a beautiful message about chasing after your dreams. Julieta was a character you easily fall in love with! As an oldest child, I very much identified with Julieta and her strong desire to support her family, and I loved her family dynamic and how they encouraged Julieta to carve her own path.

I can see Julieta, Lucas, Calvin, Ivy and Ryan’s characters resonating with young adult readers as they navigate this transitional stage of life as they are coming into their own and wanting to pursuit their dreams, while balancing outside pressure and expectations from family and friends.

Julieta’s development as she learned to use her voice, follow her heart, and write her own story was quite touching. This story was utterly charming!

Julieta was a great main character to root for! And though I loved the concept and all three boys were great, I found myself rooting for Mr. Nemesis, but I'm a sucker for enemies-to-lovers. Would recommend!! I also appreciated the LatinX rep. We see more representation happening in adult books, but I was happy to see it in more YA literature.

A girl who wants to write a romance novels finds herself in the middle of one when she publishes her work online and finds that her rom com has a mysterious new contributor to the story... and there are three possible romeos to her Juliet. Julieta isn’t looking for her Romeo but she wants to write a romance novel. So when her class assignment has her publishing her work online she discovers that there is a mystery contributor to her story and she begins to have a relationship with said contributor. Suddenly there are three possible Romeos for her: her best friend’s brother, the boy next door, and her oldest friend. One of them could be her mystery writer right? As she gets to know these guys more she tries to figure out who could be the one but when she finally has the answer she’ll be shocked. While she is working on her own story and creating the perfect happy ending she’ll have to remember that in romance stories there are plot twist and her real life romance story will have the ultimate plot twist. This was a fun young adult rom com mystery read that I think people would enjoy.

*Thanks Netgalley and HarperCollins Children's Books, Balzer + Bray for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

4.75/5 stars! This book was a sweet YA romcom, but it was also a lesson in growing up, learning our voice, and making the best choices for ourselves. Julieta was adorable and really grew throughout this story. I'm a big fan of the enemy to lover trope, so I was rooting for Mr. Nemesis, and the way the romance was handled in this story was done beautifully.
