Little Women is my favourite book from my childhood, and so I was intrigued to read this romantic take on the Louisa May Alcott classic. I really enjoyed Amy’s character, and that says something about the writing as she is my least favourite March sister from the original book. Becoming roommates brings their relationship to a different level, and despite Theo’s penchant for a lack of commitment, these two childhood neighbours end up as much more than simply neighbours, roommates or friends.
I've never read Little Women and now I definitely won't lol The writing seemed to be all over the place for me and the plot was weird. I think things were thrown into the book that didn't need to be, making it slow.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC
4.5 stars<3 AMY AND LAURIE TRUTHER FOREVER
When it comes to disastrous relationships, English professor Amy Marsden has pretty much seen everything. From Banana Brad (who had a thing for fruit costumes) to her latest disappointment, Derek (undiscovered artist with a penchant for tighty-whities and their perky pizza delivery driver), it’s been an endless adventure of oddballs, jerks, and some terrible lapses in judgment. Which is exactly how Amy has ended up living in a house with the guy she’s been half in love with since she was a kid....
Theo Sinclair has been her sister Jo’s best friend—and a commitment phobe—for as long as Amy can remember. And aside from one hot and heavy make-out session, she’s managed to ignore her feelings for Theo and successfully avoid adding another entry in her What-was-I-thinking list. Yet now that they’re living under the same roof, Amy and Theo are sharing everything from Cheetos and smoothies to their family drama, past trauma, and an attraction that Amy begins to think might not be one-sided. Could Theo really have feelings for her—or is Amy just setting herself up for another disaster?
I expected more from this book, but I couldn't care less about the protagonists, they didn't cause any kind of sympathy from me. Boring
I liked the first book by this author that I read. However this one I didn't really like. I think I would have liked it better if it was dual POV. But being stuck in the head of the heroine who was based on Amy March hard to like. Because Amy Marsden wasn't a very likeable character at least to this reader.
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.
Leave it to the March Sisters is the classic Little Women in 20th century.
This is a modern version loosely based on Little women.
I felt the chemistry between characters but found it hard to keep up.
I'm sorry but it wasn't a favorite of mine.
I really wanted to love this book. While I felt like the premise of the plot sounded really good, unfortunately I feel as though this just fell a little flat for me. I didn’t feel any sort of connection or chemistry between the two MC’s, and the focus on both of their careers felt like unseeded dialogue. It felt a bit like filler. The scenes where we were at Theo’s job with him I felt like we’re dragged out and didn’t add much to the overall plot. Again there were parts of this story that I enjoyed, I just felt like this wasn’t my cup of tea, but honestly it might be a book that my best friend would love!
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with this arc in return for my honest review..
Pacing pacing pacing. Sereno has no idea how to pace a novel.
The novel doesn't feel like it starts until at least 25% in, and at 90% the bomb is finally dropped, and then resolved WAY too quickly.
Characterization: horrible
Chemistry: non existent
Sex scene: why did it even happen?
Overall this book was just bad. I don't think Sereno understands the genre.
Big thanks to Forever and NetGalley for this ARC to read and review!
I've long enjoyed Little Women and was excited at the idea of a modern adaptation. Unfortunately, this one fell quite flat for me. While I enjoyed Amy and Theo, there wasn't enough character development for me. Their conflicts were real but felt a bit glossed over. It also felt like everything with Jo and their mother was forced in - it just didn't flow well for me.
Thank you soooooo much netgalley, the author and the publisher for the advanced review copy if this book💗
"I voluntarily read and reviewed the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
Love it!
Did not finish, do not feel like I can give an honest review of the plot, characters and story, There was nothing that turned me off from the book, I was just overwhelmed at the time and couldn't give my attention to reviewing the book in time.
A friends to lovers story that takes you away into the world of Amy and Theo. A wonderful reimagining of the classic Little Women. It does not follow the exact plot of the classic but does sprinkle in references to the original work throughout the book.
Getting to know Amy and Theo in the first part of the story was enjoyable but, at times, it was almost too slow of a burn. The way the characters were written made them feel real and relatable. It was fun to see Amy finally get her time to shine in this adaptation.
If you enjoy Little Women or Women's Contemporary Fiction then I recommend you pick this one up and enjoy. I am grateful to Forever Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read a digital copy of this sweet book in exchange for an honest review.
An excellent loose Little Women retelling with the best slow burn roommate childhood friends to lovers storyline!! I am really enjoying this reimagined classics romcom series featuring different March sisters.
Amy is a relatable English professor and aspiring artist who has always had a thing for her older sister's best friend. When she finds herself living with him and his rescue cats things come to a head and she fights a losing battle with her feelings for him, only to find they might not be as one-sided as she thought.
Great on audio and recommended for fans of authors like Dylan Newton or Chloe Liese. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
A contemporary romcom retelling of "Little Women?" Sign me up! This book did not disappoint. Seeing the March sisters reinvented with their own autonomy, careers, and options as far as dating goes is everything I never knew I needed. Our girls are thriving and I am here for it! Initially, I was shocked to read that Amy is an English professor (that seems more of a career for Jo) and I would have pegged her for an art teacher instead. However, it was refreshing to have the youngest (and often misjudged) March sister in the spotlight in this novel. Seeing her relationship with Theo (possibly a modern version of Laurie?) flushed out and developed was absolutely lovely. This is an essential read for any lifelong "Little Women" fans!
I will read just about any adaptation or twist on Alcott”s classic novel.
I did like that Amy was a professor and finds herself living with her childhood crush.
I thought the chemistry between Amy and Theo was a little contrived at first, but then it grew on me.
This is a cute modern rendition, but for the record I never liked the original Amy stealing Teddy in Little Women.
I fully expected to read a Little Women retelling when I picked this up, but it was so much better than that!
Amy is an English professor by day and an aspiring artist by night. She works diligently to keep her career in academia while dreaming of making her living with her artwork. After her flaky boyfriend tells her he’s in love with the pizza delivery girl, Amy needs a last-minute place to live. An opportunity opens up to rent out the second story of a home with a shared kitchen…and the landlord who lives downstairs is the one and only Theo, her childhood (and adulthood) crush. He also happens to rescue and foster animals for the local vet.
I loved this spin created by Annie Sereno. It plays on the expectations the reader has of Jo, Theo, and Amy while telling a new tale of friendship, sisterhood, and love. If you’re a Little Women fan who is looking for something different with lots of nods to the original classic, pick up this fun contemporary romance!
his was a super sweet and realistic romance story! Jo and Amy Marsden were raised by a mother who was enamored by the story of Little Women. Although the daughters share some characteristics with the original characters, they are their own people.
Amy and Jo are close friends with their neighbor, Theo, but time and misunderstandings breakdown the friendship. As their paths begin to again cross, Amy must come to terms with her true feelings for Theo. The author examined family dynamics and relationship struggles while also creating characters with whom the reader could identify.
I absolutely adore Louisa May Alcott and anything related to Little Women so this title was a must for me. The story was a unique take as it was not a true retelling of Little Women. The parallels to the original story were creative as way the telling of a new story.
Thank you to @readforeverpub and @netgalley for a complimentary copy of this title in exchange for my honest review.
a cute modern take on 'Little Women'
thank you to netgalley and to the publisher for this review copy.
Whenever I picked up "Leave it to the March Sisters", I was whisked away with this friends-to-lovers romance.
I absolutely love "Little Women", and as soon as I heard about this book, I knew I needed to read it!
Annie Sereno is such an amazing author! Her respect for the original novel "Little Women" is so clear, as she takes different elements from the original novel, and seamlessly weaves them with some of her own to create a modern-day reimagining of Louisa May Alcott's beautiful classic.
I do not want to say too much about the plot due to spoilers, but, I will say, this book has quite a lot in it. When two childhood friends, Amy and Theo, become housemates, their relationship begins to blossom into something more than friendship. Will they be one another's happily-ever-after? You will just have to read to find out.
And oh my goodness, the animal rescues!!!!
The pacing at various times throughout the novel felt a bit off to me. Some parts felt too slow, while others felt rushed and I feel there could have been more time spent on them.
If you enjoy Contemporary Romance and / or retellings of Classic Novels, I recommend this book! I so look forward to reading what Ms. Sereno writes next!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of this book! All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
