I absolutely love Little Women, so I was so excited to read this adaptation because a lot of the ones I have read have been pretty good. This one isn't much different, but I did not really like hoe there wasn't much going on for like a majority of the book. It felt like more of a no plot, just vibes book which ended up just feeling really slow. Overall though, I liked the couple, but didn't really feel a lot of chemistry with them.
I really wanted to love this book, but it was just okay. The pacing of this was a little too slow and I felt like it took away from the story. On top of the pacing, the characters were just not super interesting to me. The sisters relationship was pretty frustrating to read as well as our love-interest.
Overall, this had so much potential and it would have been so good as a one-person POV! I was confused at certain parts and just really didn't like Amy & Jo's relationship to the point it took away from the story. Their banter at times was funny and that's what redeemed this from being a dnf for me.
I didn’t have to force myself to finish reading this one, but I didn’t particularly enjoy it either. Based on Little Women, it is absolutely bursting at the seams with references and comparisons to characters. Chock full of miscommunication, straight up lies, and then pretty much glossing over conflict resolution had me cringing. “LOL I couldn’t tell you about this super important thing because someone else is superstitious about it” oh okay. Nah. I’m not okay with it. I did love the MMC fostering all of the animals though! Yep. That’s it.
Amy has always dated “characters” and the latest one dumped her for the pizza girl who delivered to their shared apartment. Needing to move out yesterday, she snatches the opportunity when a shared house rental opportunity arises and doesn’t bother to meet the landlord she will be living with, or even look at their name. Turns out it’s her old friend Theo, who slammed a door in her face last time they talked. Totally gonna be cool.
DNF @ 15% - despite the premise, could not get into this book. Unfortunate, as I wanted to love it so much!
Thank you NetGalley and the author for this ARC!
I was entertained with this book! It was a good read and I would absolutely recommend reading it to my friends. Quick easy read. I liked it
I thought this was a good book! Even if you've never read Little Women (I knnnooww! I did see the movie years ago, but I've never read the book), I think you're able to enjoy it. I would recommend!
I received an e-ARC from the publisher.
Another literary inspired book by Annie Sereno! Again I excitedly dived into this book and was thoroughly enjoying all of the Little Women references sprinkled throughout. The sisters truly did give us some modern day parallels to the girls. I enjoyed the close quarters set up between Theo and Amy too, makes all the tension enjoyably fun.
Unfortunately, this book is weighed down with the same issue of the first book by Annie (Blame it on the Brontes), it is just too damn long. In an effort to keep the story going the pacing suffers and you start to lose interest.
This book is perfect if you like modernized versions of the classics. Leave it to the March sisters gets its inspiration from Louisa May Alcott's classic, Little Women.
Amy is the FMC in this book and a professor whose true passion is painting. After breaking up with her most recent bad decision, Amy must find a new place to live. She ends up renting part of a house and her new housemate is her childhood friend (though more her sister's than hers) Theo. Past drama gets dug up and Amy tries to mend some fences.
A slow-burn, friends-to-lovers romance with forced proximity ensues. Overall, this was a nice easy read. The pacing of the story was pretty slow, even for a slow burn, but otherwise, it was decent.
Thank you to Annie Sereno and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the opportunity to read and review this book before its release date.
As someone who loves Little Women, I was expecting to really enjoy this one. However, it fell flat for me.
To start, the pacing was just so slow. It was very slow to get to the main romance storyline. I like a slow burn, but this was a little too slow paced for my liking. Plus the big secrets were revealed late in the book, and it just seemed rushed to be resolved and it ended so quickly.
As for the characters, both Amy and Theo annoyed me lol. All they seemed to do was complain about their jobs to each other. I didn’t feel the chemistry between them at all, and I wasn’t really rooting for them as a couple. However, I did love the secondary characters and felt they added a lot to the story. I do wish Amy’s sister, Jo, was included a bit more min the storyline, as the title implies that the “sister” aspect would be more prominent.
Overall, it was an okay read. If you’re looking for a Little Women retelling, I wouldn’t necessarily suggest this one. However, if you do love Little Women, you’ll love all of the references in this book.
I enjoyed this one. It was funny, sweet and engaged me right at the beginning. I have to say the pacing wasn’t amazing, the slow pace made it feel like a really long book. But other than that I did enjoy it and would like to read the authors other books!
1 star. This book was a little predictable for me DNF

While I enjoyed the writing, the story had so many gaping holes that I found it difficult to power through. While most of them were filled throughout the novel, I felt myself being frustrated rather than intrigued. However, I did finish the book and found it enjoyable in the end.
This book had a lot of potential, but there were a few issues I had with it. The biggest one was probably the perspective flipping (first person, third person, FMC, MCM). You had to really think who was talking and the flow seemed to waver because it wasn't a constant back and forth between characters. Another issue was that the romance between the two main characters didn't happen until 83%. I felt like we had more romance between Lando/Stella and Athena/Thorne at times, which was frustrating.
That being said I enjoyed the premise and wished we got more of Amy and Theo together. They lived together and I think we had more interactions with all their friends than they did together. I am glad that we were able to see Amy find her passion and pursue it. I also liked the reconciliation between Amy, Jo, and Theo. I do wish we had more interactions with them too.
Little Women is a childhood favorite of mine and still to this day holds a special place in my heart. I reread it often, When I say I was excited to read this, I truly was. It wasn’t quite what I expected though. It’s missing charm and heart, the feelings the original book evoked. There is also some miscommunication throughout, but the biggest issue for me was Amy and Theo. It was hard for me to believe in them as a couple. It just didn’t come across the page as a romance. I think I was looking for this story to develop that more. I did however think there was a lot of fabulous witty banter and I still think Little Women fans will enjoy it, but not as a romance.
3.5 stars! a fun and unique retelling (can you call this that?) of little women and i liked it although it took me a while to read. i just wasn’t fully into it. the pacing was fine but the plot wasn’t very exciting.
i think although it did have aspects similar and inspired by little women, i dont feel confidently calling it a modern retelling (i dont know! im no literature buff!). it also felt implied you’d see more of jo in this with what the title was (or the other sisters) but it was only amy and jo who was a big side character (emphasis on side).
it was really cute though! amy was sweet and theo was broody but i found their partnership frustrating. it was so back and forth at the end feeling very “heres an issue and boom! its solved” especially when it happened twice back to back. i felt unfulfilled.
i wish i got more from theo’s pov. i think that might’ve helped me move along in the book. his chapters were sparse and i think i needed his view that related to his life AND how he felt about amy. without, it felt too one sided and frankly a little boring.
i think overall it was a good book but i don’t think i’d pick it up again or purchase it for myself. thank you to the publisher and netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.
This book was an easy read. I will say at times it might have had too many similarities to Little Women, like it was trying to hard. But overall I enjoyed the book!
This was such an adorable read. The way the author tied the story to Jane Austin novels was wonderful and creative. I was so attached the the characters and couldn’t wait to find out how the story played out.
Thank you to Forever Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC. All opinions are my own.
As a huge fan of Little Women, I was thrilled to receive an advanced e-copy of this book. However, it did fall a little flat for me.
I thought the setting was great and the book overall started out at a good pace and kept me interested. However, I just couldn’t connect to Amy the way that I wanted to. I thought her romance with Theo felt a little lackluster and the chemistry didn’t come through the pages the way that I anticipated.
I did really enjoy Theo and his animal rescue as well the multi POV (Amy & Theo). Overall, this one just wasn’t for me, but it may be for you!
I can tell just a little ways into the book that it is not going to be for me. I love Little Women, but this is not a compelling interpretation and I don’t want to slog through it further for the sake of completing.
A modern day retelling of Little Women with Amy as the star!
Amy has always been in love with Theo but he has always been her sister's best friend. Now, they are sharing a house together--with lots of rescue animals--and seeing if there is actually something there.
This was an interesting take on the classic story. I did really like how it focused on Amy! When I originally read Little Women, I wasn't a fan of her, but mostly because I connected to Jo. It was nice to see this side of that story. I also liked how quirky the whole book was. All of the humor was off-beat, which was cool.
This is definitely as slow burn and the pacing reflects that. I wish it had been a little faster.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the gifted copy!
