A pretty book with pretty colours, following the sounds of people saying kind things to one another. A lovely idea for a book.
This book is absolutely lovely! The words and photos are inspiring and teach a beautiful lesson of looking for kindness in the world around you. I teach 3rd grade and will definitely be purchasing this book for my class and recommending it to other teachers as well. I also love the suggestions at the end for how to encourage children to spread kindness and notice the kindness in their lives.
I love picture books with strong but simple messages and this book is that to a T. This is a book I would want all my daycare kids to have and read. The art is stunning as well and it is really detailed if you look closely (:
This book is absolutely beautiful! The illustrations are stunning, colourful and makes you want to put all the pages up as decor in your house. The book itself is very simple, however the message of 'kindness' gets across very clearly. This book could be perfect for kids of all ages, and shows the simplicity in acts of kindness. I'll definitely be buying a physical copy of this! I'll also keep an eye out for books illustrated by Teresa Martinez, because I fell in love with their art style.
This is a beautifully illustrated book with a wonderful message - kindness. As a father and young daughter wander through their neighborhood, they hear and see many different expressions of kindness taking place. This is a book that will give a child both much to look at, and much to remember, and is sure to become a favorite!!
My thanks to the American Psychology Association and Magination for allowing me to read an ARC of this book which is scheduled to become available June 13, 2023. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are freely given.
This book feels like a warm hug. The idea of taking a walk to find examples of kindness is helpful not only for young children but for developing youth at all ages. I've since tried the technique of walking around and finding acts of kindness and it is so validating and helpful. I wasn't aware that the APA had books specific for children and I will definitely be incorporating this into supporting my students.
This is a GORGEOUS book! The illustrations are colorful, sweet, emotive, and whimsical. It almost feels like what Gaudi would create if he illustrated books. The text is mostly dialogue, kind words heard as a girl walks through her city neighborhood with her father. There is so much for kids to observe, and there is plentiful opportunity to talk about community and kindness in words and actions. My kids loved reading this, and I strongly recommend this book!
Thank you to American Psychological Association and NetGalley for providing an advance reader copy for us to review. My family loved it!
This picture book is very simple in both its writing & the message it seeks to share; kindness is found when we put it out there. As the pair in this book wanders around their city, they note all of the ways that kindness can take place & all of the ways that people can share kindness with each other. For very young readers, this picture book presents the ideal format. It is simple & stylish; encouraging the wandering eye to make connections between what is seen while the mind imagines how those in the book might feel.
I particularly appreciated Teresa Martinez’s illustrations. They shaped the words of kindness so as to demonstrate how the act, intention, & reality of being kind alters the world. When we make time & give space for actions of kindness we are allowing all the colour of the world to be brighter & for people to be able to bask in it with joy.
The book will be a wonderful addition to learning lessons between very young readers & their guardians. I am encouraged by the format of this little book & all the ways in which we might be reminded, at any age, how important it is to be kind—to ourselves & to others.
Thank you to NetGalley, American Psychological Association, Magination Press, & Amy Ludwig VanDerwater for the free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I love kids books!
This one features beautiful illustrations of a city that looks a little San Francisco like in watercolor pastels. The diversity included in abilities, race, ethnicity and gender is fantastic.
Our main character and their dad go for a walk to listen to what kindness sounds like and all around they hear people being encouraging, friendly, forgiving and generous.
At the end there are suggestions for other types of kindness walks you can take with your kids to encourage them to notice kindness, nature, or taking pretend walks through memories, books or just imagination.
What a fantastic must-own book! A child and parents take a walk, and we see many different ways that people show and share kindness through their actions or words whether through sharing, playing, helping, showing support and so on. Kindness depends on “words we choose to day.” At the end are some suggested walks of kindness.
