I didn't connect much with the characters of this novella, but overall I enjoyed it. I think part of that disconnect is that I don't always enjoy the friends to lovers trope. However, it was quick, festive, and a nice book to pick up between heavier (literally and metaphorically) titles. Overall, I will continue to read this author duo's work!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
The premise of this book (the same date for a few years running) has been done several times before (extremely successfully in One Day) so I had high hopes that this novel would cover the development of a relationship. The chosen date is New Year's Eve, which happens to be Gloria's birthday. I found the number of siblings (who all have names starting with 'G') confusing, although I appreciate this might not have been an issue if I'd read the first book in the series, but added to the number of friends there were a lot of characters to cope with. The birthday party involved a lot of traditions and I got tired of the repetitive countdown at midnight and hide and seek games. The behaviour of Gloria and Jacob seemed rather juvenile and contrived. Unfortunately I thought it was boring and I gave up at 70%.

This was a very cute little novella about love and friendship and I had a good time with it. It’s about Gloria and Jacob, and is set on 10 New Year’s Eves, which happens to be close the day the bunch of friends celebrate Gloria’s birthday, which is on January 1st. It did what a novella needed to do and I really loved the characters and their friendship!

First chapter read like bad fan fic. Second chapter, told from Jacob’s perspective, was immensely better—as if written by a totally different person. For the next couple of chapters, it’s an okay romance—we get to know the characters, there’s lots of will they or won’t they, and the writing is better. Then, chapter 5 reverts—bad fan fic city. It doesn’t ever recover and the last few chapters are unbearable—the lost note, people who have been friends forever and are basically thirty can’t communicate?! Why?! The relationship between Jacob and Gloria gave me as much whiplash as the quality of the writing!!

The slow burn of this nearly killed me. I do love a slow burn but my oh my, this was slow indeed. I kind of wanted it to be slow but fast! 🤣 I felt the story was very back and forth with the characters and writing but there is so much promise for the book to be utterly amazing.

I did enjoy the dual perspectives but I felt a bit more death was needed and maybe slightly longer to beef the characters and story out more. I loved Jacob and Gloria, they had so much potential but they were so undecided about if/when they wanted each other.

I liked the premise of the story, I just felt a little more detail could've went into it.

Thank you to Michelle and Netgalley for allowing me this ARC.

This is a good book. The two main characters are Gloria and Jacob. They have been best friends since elementary school. Their senior year Jacob got a record deal and Gloria got a job with a ballet company in New York. There is an attraction. Every year their friends and them meet up every New Year’s Eve and have a party. No matter where they are they all show up. Gloriana and Jacob have their issues but together they work them out and fall in love.

Brilliant I am now going to purchase the rest of the authors books that I haven’t read yet. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this early copy.

Until Next Year is a quick and enjoyable read about Jacob and Gloria and their will we risk our friendship for love conundrum. The story visits Jacob, Gloria and their friend group every year at New Year's Eve. Each year brings different wrinkles but the author doesn't belabor them either. For such a quick read the ending was surprisingly touching. Until Next Year is a fun read.

Gloria and Jacob have been friends since they were… I can’t remember. About 12? And they’ve fancied each other since then.

Fast forward to Gloria’s 21st birthday – which so happens to be New Year’s Day – and she hasn’t spoken to Jacob in a year.

Why? Their busy lives! She’s a ballerina and he’s a rockstar. She’s on one side of America, and he on the other … for most of it.

But every New Year’s Eve they head on over to their friends place (a palace as his parents made millions with a one invention) to ring it in and celebrate Gloria’s birthday.

It’s a cute little story about friends trying to date and failing, and then winning!

But I didn’t enjoy it.

I liked the way it covered the same day for 10 years. We got a sense of what people had been doing the past year from their chit-chats, but it lacked something. I just didn’t feel for any of the characters.

Especially our little duo – Gloria & Jacob. All they did is whine and moan about how they’re so in love with the other but did absolutely nothing about it! “Oh but they don’t want to ruin the friendship.”

Maybe it’s my age, but just tell them! Once you develop feelings for someone, just tell them. They can either reciprocate those feelings, or tell you they don’t see you like that. Then you get over them and you can continue a friendship without you constantly thinking about them and wondering if they like you, if you should make a move…

And the fact it took them I’d say 20 years(!!!) to finally say they like each other and try is RIDICULOUS! Yes they dated others in that time, but Come on!!

And one little point, on one or maybe two of Jacobs chapters he thinks about Gloria pregnant and how amazing she’ll look carrying his child… DUDE! Who says she even wants kids!? She hasn’t said either way. Don’t be picturing this life with her when you don’t know what she wants!

Which leads on well in the later chapters where she says she wants to married a few years and enjoy just the two of them before kids. Dude is out here wanting to get her up the duff ASAP and she don’t want that!

Maybe talk a little… you’ll find the two of you are different ideas of how this relationship will go because over the decades you’ve built this perfect future in your heads and it won’t be anywhere near that.

And the whole misunderstanding/her missing the note… are you serious that no one cleaned that whole bedroom the whole year? Are you serious that he would leave the note and then text bonjour and nothing else? Not even a, hey dunno if you found the note but promise I didn’t run out on you! lol early flight had to leave and you looked so cute asleep. I’ll text you details about Paris tomorrow x

And she couldn’t have just replied to him serious? “Bonjour” after you just dipped after we had sex!?

Then he could have just sent a little text like the above mentioned and all sorted.

But no. She just ignores him and he goes on thinking she doesn’t like him. And their friends couldn’t have sent him a message like dude wtf? Or just to say Gloria dropped her phone in the river. Either would have saved *another* year of shit.

I’m sorry. I wanted to like this book, I did. But I just got annoyed and frustrated at the two of them. Both moaning and whining and acting like children.

I loved how short it was, as at the time I was looking for a little bit of romance. This book was so cute and lighthearted which I feel like we all need at this time in the world. Overall really enjoyed.

Cute light hearted romance that’s visited once a year over ten years as Gloria and Jacob move towards each other. A short read, but fun.

This is such a cute RomCom! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were so easy to connect with and I instantly fell in love with Gloria and Jacob. If you enjoy romcoms with some spice, don’t miss this one.

Unfortunately for me I had to DNF this, I just couldn't get into it. However from what I read, I enjoyed the writing and the characters seemed like they would be fun.

This was a very middle-of-the-road book for me. But I do know people I can recommend this book to that will love and enjoy it.

Gloria has trained to be a dancer, and ballerina, and Jacob is a rock star. Each has found success in dance and music just not in love and not with each other. Still, they see each other because their families wonder if and when they can ever get together. An interesting story full of hope about love during the holidays sees if they can find their time for love.

Michelle Angelle knows how to deliver a romantic comedy that you won't forget, including this latest book, Until Next Year. I felt connected to the main characters Jacob and Gloria and sometimes found myself screaming at the two of them to get on with it! This short novel is a perfect holiday read about close friends, loving relationships, good intentions, and plenty of laughs. a 5-star, sweet and romantic read.

Honestly, I can see where this book has its audience and I was not the right one. A fun New Years themed romance sounded like such a blast but I really struggled to engage here. That said I know someone is the perfect fit for this romance!

I really liked the idea for this book but I feel like it wasn’t executed well. Their relationship seemed very back and forth and a lot of the story was just repetitive. I’m also not a big fan of the miscommunication trope which seemed to happen a lot. Overall, it’s a nice, fast paced read but not the best.
