This book dives into the classic trope of friends-to-lovers, where both characters have feelings for each other but are too scared to admit it and risk their friendship. As I read, I couldn't help but wonder if there were moments from the early days of their friendship that I missed out on by not reading the previous books in the series. It made me curious about how their bond developed over time.
One thing that stood out was the abundance of steamy sex scenes. The chemistry between the characters practically jumps off the page, creating a palpable heat that's hard to ignore. But amid all the passion, I found myself wishing for a bit more plot to balance things out. While the romantic tension is captivating, I felt like the story could have used a stronger narrative to complement the steamy moments.
Overall, this book offers an enticing exploration of friendship turning into something more, with plenty of heat along the way. But if you're looking for a deeper storyline to accompany the romance, you might find yourself wanting more than just the bedroom scenes.
I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hudson and Vi. Friends forever, but there are romantic feelings that they feel for each other but of course do not know about it. Hudson will always care for Vi even when she isn't expecting it. Vi has grown up living a pretty rough life, so he wants to do everything he can to make things easier for her. He loves her so much. SPICYYYYYY. When they finally get together, it's so much fire chemistry. While Hudson is confident in their relationship, will Vi step out of her comfort zone and go for the guy meant for her or she will always be afraid of losing her constant?
Violet and Hudson are coworkers at the tattoo parlor. He is her boss and long-time friend.
After one emotional night, the lines are blurred and he is now determined to show her how good they can be together.
A good book to pass the time. Friends to lovers is not my go-to trope but in Skin Deep it was done right. I loved Violet's client who commissioned Hudson's portrait and boy was it fun to read about the making of the portrait! The chemistry was palpable 🔥
The ending was a little bittersweet though (still HEA).
I loved this book!
I thought that this book had a really good storyline and great characters.
Read the book – it’s a brilliant romantic and sexy read and will not disappoint!
It is another great story from Tara Wyatt and it is 5 stars from me for this one
Very highly recommended!
This is a good book. The two main characters are Violet and Hudson. Violet works at Hudson tattoo shop and is an artist. Hudson owns a tattoo shop. There is an attraction. Violet has loved Hudson since she started at his shop. Hudson realizes he is attracted to Violet. They start dating. They each have problems but together they work them out and fall in love.
Skin Deep is the 8th book in the Prescott series and it starts off a little unusually, with Violet and Hudson attending a wedding for one of the many Prescott's as friends but with a little interest in one another. It's one of those times when one of thee characters has been interested for a while but the other was dating/engaged and so the other party couldn't see things changing, so they are just friends until the person isn't dating anymore so the door is wide open. Which is where we find Violet and Hudson who share a very intimate night after Hudson experiences intense feelings of grief and loss, and "needs someone" and Violet is there.
For me friends to lovers is a tricky minefield. These two work together, and I could accept Violet's interest in Hudson, because it's always been there. I find it frustrating that one day the attraction is not there for Hudson, and then after some sizzling sex, he's all about Violet. The girl was uber talented before, kind, sensitive, and smart - but sadly didn't think she was deserving because she has a learning disability. There was alot of time spent on this, and I felt Hudson didn't really communicate his interest in Violet so well, beyond his appreciation of her physical being, and how hot they were together. There was alot of discussion about Violet meeting Hudson's needs, but not the other way round. I just felt Violet was happy to lap anything up he dished out. This one also had an ending that could have really made this book awesome, and I felt it fizzed a bit.
3.5 stars
So i was really expecting to like this book but it just fell flat for me. i felt like this book kinda started in a weird way and maybe like some pages were missing ?
So i like Violet but at times i just got so sick of hearing her say she isn't worth anything because she has a learning disability ,like i get you were bullied in the past but i feel like whenever Hudson told her how much he likes her and that he wants something with her she would just tell him that he doesn't actually feel that way and it got on my nerves ,
Hudson is a good guy but at times i felt like he didn't have a ton of personality, i was hoping to see more to him but he was a little dull and vi and him had ok chemistry but i was looking for something more to their relationship then just sex ,i mean i get that they are already friends but i was kinda hoping we would get to see their first time meeting or something .
Overall i didn't really vibe with this book .
I loved this book so much that I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. . The chemistry and attraction between these two is amazing and you can't help but fall in love with them while reading this book.
This is the 8th book in The Prescotts series and they just keep getting better. Wyatt writes a great spicy romance story with lots of heart. The books in this series can be read as stand-alone novels; characters from previous books will show up in group scenes, but you don’t have to read them first to enjoy the story.
Hudson and Violet have been best friends for several years and in love with each other for most of that time. She was afraid of losing her best friend if their relationship failed and he was clueless about his true feelings. After attending a very emotional family gathering they find comfort in each other and their friends-to-lovers story begins.
One small hiccup in their relationship is overcome very quickly and they steam up the pages of this fast-paced romance novel and avoid the third act break up. (I hate that forced break up in romance novels.) Once again Tara Wyatt challenges expected romance novel tropes and makes her own rules.
Recommended for: romance readers that enjoy extremely steamy bedroom scenes
Content warning: profanity; sex… so much sex… steamy, smutty, well-written sex

SKIN DEEP (The Prescotts Book 8) by Tara Wyatt
Hudson Prescott owns a tattoo shop, and he has a lot of emotional baggage. HIs father was killed when he was a child. Now he is healing up from a motorcycle accident that left him unable to work for some months. Violet MacAllister is a girl who grew up with a history of being bullied due to her dyslexia. She threw herself into art and went to school and ended up with a MFA and then became a tattoo artist in Hudson's shop. They became best friends as time pasts she is in love with him and he oblivious to that fact. He thinks they are just friends, and won't do anything to try to see if she feels anything in spite of what everyone tells him. When they are working toward the same goal to a problem, he is realizing who he has with him. I enjoyed this friends to lovers story. This is 5 stars.
Skin Deep is the eight book in The Prescotts series by Tara Wyatt. While having read the previous books will give readers an edge with character knowledge and backstory, I think newcomers to the series will still be able to fully enjoy the read.
Violet MacAllister is no stranger to rejection. Growing up with dyslexia, she was bullied mercilessly, making her feel as though she would never be good enough. And she believed it—until she found art and a new way of expressing herself. But her wounds run deep, and even though she’s been pining over her best friend Hudson for years, he has no idea, and she intends to keep it that way. He’s everything she could ever want—sensitive, artistic, hard-working, smart, and so, so hot—but she knows they’ll only ever be friends. Hudson Prescott has been through a lot. He lost his father as a child, his fiancée jilted him, and six months ago, he was in a terrifying motorcycle accident that could’ve cost him his life. The one bright spot through the dark times has been his friend and co-worker Violet, who’s talented, driven to help others, and a total sweetheart. She’s his closest friend, and he’d be lost without her. But one emotional night, everything changes, and suddenly Hudson’s seeing Violet in a different light. One that has him questioning how he could’ve been so blind to what was in front of him this entire time: Violet, with her curls, and tattoos, and her laugh that feels like sunshine. So when Violet has a proposition for him—one that involves her painting a nude portrait of him—he agrees. Because now that his eyes are open, he’ll do anything to make her see she’s the one for him.
Skin Deep is a contemporary romance that does a good job of tackling some tough topics with honesty and sensitivity but still keeping humor and hope in the story. I thought the walls Violet had built for herself were realistic and well portrayed. I liked the dynamic between Violet and Hudson, and the support the rest of the circle of family and friend offers. I enjoyed the arch of the story, and thought it was engaging and entertaining. My only disappointment was with the ending. To be honest, I expected one more twist to the story and thought it all balanced too quickly and neatly.
Skin Deep is a good edition to the series, and a well done friends to lovers romance.
Skin Deep is an easy read, chick flick type of story that is an easy read. Everyone knows there’s a time and a place for a book that you can just pick up and remember where you left off without needing too much brain power! I absolutely loved the story and loved Violet and Hudson's relationship. The only slight upset I had was that Eunice didn’t leave them the money anyway, I felt this was out of character. But thoroughly enjoyed it!
This is the 8th book in the Prescott series by Wyatt. This follows Violet and Hudson as they move through a friends to lovers romance. Hudson is the artist of the family and has a tattoo shop where Violet works and has had a crush on Hudson since starting her job there. This is SPICY and cute to see Hudson eyes open and really start to see Violet. 3.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I do enjoy these Prescott's books. This is the sixth I've read and I really must go back and check out the first two. This time we have Tattoo artist Hudson who has recently recovered from a nasty motorcycle accident. Helping him with his recovery is his best friend Violet, who he is clearly attracted to, but has never allowed himself to think about in that way. Violet for her part has been in love with him since they first met, but after a traumatic time when she was younger, thinks that he is too good for her.
This was a great romance, I loved Hudson and Violet together, they made a great couple. They worked so well together and I enjoyed reading about them finding their way to one another. I don't know if there's more to come from this series (surely there are no Prescotts left?) perhaps I will have to go back and read the first two books, and maybe you should too!
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
In Skin Deep by Tara Wyatt, tattoo artist Violet McAllister and tattoo parlor owner Hudson Thomas Prescott go from being best friends to lovers.
There were some really endearing moments in this novel, despite the characters' ignorance of one another's feelings of each other. Also, I appreciated Hudson's patience in helping Violet break down her walls since he was understanding of her fear, which I found to be endearing. Don't be misled by the book's sweetness, though; for 85% of it, it was just Hudson and Violet going at it like bunnies.
TThe nickname 'kitten' was overused, and to be honest, it wasn't even a cute nickname to begin with, so I'm not sure why Hudson was so determined to use it. There's also the fact that the ending, which I felt could have been improved, did Violet and Hudson no justice because it was too vague and open.
In all, this as a short read that depicts the ups and downs of transitioning from friends to lovers.
*Thank you to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, and to the author, Tara Wyatt, for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.*
Book 8 in the series has Hudson who is a tattoo artist and owns a studio meeting a woman who trunks out to be an artist herself but wants to hold on to most of her pictures instead of selling them. Violet also has dyslexia and was bullied when she was growing up which is how she got into art. Now after meeting him it trunks out that each of them is in need of money with his rent lease coming due. Violet after meeting with a new agent is requested to meet this older woman who has a collection of paintings by famous artists. Now after meeting the woman she tells Violet that she would like another portrait done and then shows her the person she would like it to be. Yes, it is Hudson and after their one and done she now needs to go to him and explain to him this offer and the amount of money being offered. There is much more to this story but I don’t want to give too much away. This is really a good story and has wonderful characters. I could relate with Violet since I grew up with an artist for a mother so this story was really good for me in a lot of ways. A very good book.
Skin Deep - Tara Wyatt
This is a friends to lovers romance between Violet and Hudson. They were great characters and I very much enjoyed the friendship and care that the author took in the more sensitive subjects in the story. Now can I just mention the steaminess of this book....loved it! This is my first time reading a book by this author, and I very much look forward to reading more in the future. Thank you very much for the e-arc in return for my honest thoughts.
Finally! After waiting almost six months, we can now read about the last of the Prescott boys biting the dust. As expected after Noah and Levi, we can now read Hudson’s story. And although this was the seventh Prescott romance, Tara still knows how to create yet another original story.
This one is about bullying and low self esteem. Violet has dyslexia and it has caused her to be insecure about herself. This resulted in being afraid to be in a relationship. So, she has been pining after Hudson for years now, afraid to risk their friendship.
Hudson has had a rough year: being jilted by his fiancee, crashing with his motorcycle and nearly getting killed is not the best way to enjoy life. Fortunately Violet, his co-worker, is always there for him to help him.
The whole friends-to-lovers trope is done in totally Tara style: flaming hot, cute and funny. The best character of this book is Ness though. She is the woman who asks Violet to create a nude portret for her, for her dirty bird collection. Ness is old, hilarious, bold and straight forward. Everyone could use a Ness in her life. I’m sad to see all the Prescotts having found their loved ones. Maybe Tara can create a spin-off? Thanks for all the wonderful stories so far! Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley fo providing the are.
