I absolutely loved this book. It hooked me and kept me turning pages until I was done. Finished it in two days! The character development was strong, and the premise was unique enough that it didn't feel like anything else I've read.
While I loved the premise of this book, I found the plot and the characters lacking. It had a good promise of a fun rom-com and interesting characters. But it failed at delivering. First few chapters were okay, but at one point some things that kept being referenced were annoying. Yes, we get it Amber, you're short. At the beginning she seemed as such a cool FMC with all the fun quirks of a modern woman. Which, again, a big let down, as Amber lost all of that when her love interest showed up (mind you, he's a ma, so, a tale as old as time). She turned into a very tuned out version of herself, as well as into an undecissive rude woman, running my nerves to the ground.
Was not a fan of the reality TV show aspect as it was also supposed to bring the romance forward. Sadly, for a book classified as a romance, it became a subplot, pushed back by animal care and family and friends relationships. Disappointing.
Ian, the love interest, was very bland while simultaniusly being a total cliche. You have the perfect ingredients for him - protective, charming and been in love with Amber since ages ago. It was supposed to be a slow burn with the nemesis vibes and the childhood crush on Ian's side, but it just fell flat. Also, the nemesis or enemies to lovers trope was removed so quickly that it just made me think "what was the point of it"?
This book was a let down but I was still glad to read it. It's not my thing and that's fine!
I am a fan of enemies to lovers but it took me some time to enjoy this book. I didn't love the characters at first and I think that might have been why I wasn't that interested at first. I did start liking them after some chapters though. Honestly the vet part was what kept me going!
Doc Showmance was cute! Amber was Bada$$. I loved her willingness to stand up for her patients, her family, and her friends. Ian started off a little as a pushover but as the story went on he grew more of a backbone. I Felt like the production of the show might have been a little *too* dramatized. Their producer was a total jerk and to hold *that* over Ian's head was an a$$hole move. His family was just as bad. Ugh.
Overall it was cute, and my only major complaint would be the production and staff.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC opportunity!

THANK YOU NET GALLEY AND ZOE FORAWRD FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO READ THIS. That being said, rating and feelings are my own:
This is an enemies to lovers, which I typically loves so it breaks my heart to say I did not love this book. I get how it could be someone else's cup of tea but sadly wasnt for me. I got about 60% in and had to DNF which I HATE doing but I just could not read anymore of it, Im sorry.
This was a delightfully fun, enemies to lovers rom com that was full of laughs and humor. It had a great cast of characters and the story was well-written. It caught my attention from the start and kept me interested all the way through. Amber and Ian had an electricity from the very beginning, their chemistry simply sizzled! They haven't acknowledged each other since they both graduated veterinary school, ever since which, due to a misunderstanding, they have been arch enemies. Ian seems to be enjoying more success than her lately, what with his wildlife TV show and all, and being the "Sexiest Veterinarian Alive" and all. Amber's not doing so bad herself, having her own reality ER show, but she could use a bit of a boost. In order to obtain said boost, it would be in her best interest to fake date the sexy vet Ian, which would definitely help her ratings. She is of course reluctant after having her heart broken by him before, but she agrees. And it doesn't take long for the lines between reality and fake to start to blurr.
I really enjoyed this fun, adorable rom com, and I definitely would like to read more of this author's work in the future.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I received this book from NetGalley and the publishers to read and review. All statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.
A fun and interesting read!
First of all, I want to thank to NetGalley and the author for give me the opportunity for read this ARC.
Now, my opinion.
I liked this book so much. Amber and Ian were fated to each other. Their chemistry was amazing, like they ideas and personalities.
They're very stronge characters and, while I was reading, I felt like I was reading how to different persons fall in love for each other for real. Nothing matters, only they and their feelings.
I don't have to much to say about this book. I enjoyed reading it and I recommend it to you if you want to read an enemies to lovers fake dating. They're the best so... go and read it!
I love picking most books to read by their covers and this one of course had a dog so I was sold! LOL...I'm glad this one paid off. This was a Grumpy Girl/Sunshine Guy story about an animal vet clinic that does a reality TV show. I become addicted right away and flew through this book. I can't wait to read more books from Zoe Forward.
Thanks NetGalley and Zoe Forward for allowing me to read this ARC.
I have mixed feelings about this book. Overall, I would have to say it was just OK... I had difficulty connecting to the characters and I found Amber really frustrating a lot of the time. Amber and Ian were sworn enemies in college due to a prank gone awry where Amber was the butt of the joke, years later when Ian guest stars in Amber's veterinarian show, sparks long forgotten start to fly again. I usually enjoy a good enemies to lovers story, but for some reason, this one just fell flat for me. There was too much back and forth, and for all the same reasons, which got super tiring by the end of the book. Some parts of the plot felt like they dragged on forever, while others felt super rushed... the pacing was just off for me. I found it difficult to get through and almost DNFed it a couple of times. The ending was sweet, but I more so felt relieved that I was finished with the book, then happiness for the ending. Overall, it just wasn't for me, but I'm sure lots of other people would enjoy it!
First of all, thank you so much NetGalley, publisher, and author, for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review)
Synopsis: I would say Dr. Ian Todd is my archenemy. But that would require us acknowledging each other, which we haven’t done since we graduated veterinary school.
He’s famous. As in, he’s the world’s “Sexiest Veterinarian Alive” with his own wildlife TV show and a string of glamorous girlfriends.
I’m infamous as a reality TV emergency veterinarian with a snark mouth, take-no-crap attitude, and zero dating life.
When asked to fake a romance with him on TV to boost my ER show’s ratings, I want to say no-way, but the extra money will pay off my brother’s loan shark debt. Even though Ian broke my heart, playing his love interest shouldn’t be hard, especially if it means getting to watch him squirm.
Lines get blurred when the TV setups stop feeling fake. Can I chance this might be real love?
Opinion: I've requested this book because I loved the synopsis with all the veterinary show and the enemies to lovers fake dating trope. Amber is passionate but also caring to her foster siblings and all her patients and there was a high probability that I love her. However, sometimes I didn't connect with her or with Ian. I didn't understand some interactions and sentences they have to each other which I didn't enjoy or were like a cold glass of water. Finally, I was more interested in the vet clinical cases than the romance.
Doc Showmance is a reverse grumpy sunshine animal-filled fun time! We meet Amber, an emergency vet-in-training who is as fantastic at her job as much as she hates that she has to be on reality tv to do it. Then comes her vet school enemy Ian who is the best of everything in golden retriever character. I really enjoyed the vet reality TV angle and loved how much Amber excelled at her job and didn't let the whims of TV totally sweep her away. It was a fun romance and all the animals were a nice touch! I'm glad I requested it for the cute over alone, but the story was fun too!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC. All opinions are my own.
This one started off really promising. I really enjoyed the first half. The tension between Ian and Amber was really well done and I really liked the way their romance was progressing as well. I also liked the vetinerian ER setting. I always love when romances include quite a bit of their jobs as well, especially when it's such a prevelant part of the cover and title as it is with this book. I especially liked it because both of our leads were so passionate about their jobs. I also really liked the reality tv show setting. I thought it was very well excecuted. However, the second half went of the rails a bit too much for me. It became very unhinged and extreme. All of the sudden both of the characters had deeply traumatic pasts even though we didn't even get a hint of that throughout the rest of the book. The drama became a bit too much for me. The ending also felt a bit rushed and I felt like there were a couple of threads left open that I wish were wrapped up. So yeah, adding everything up I ended on a "meh" feeling about this book, which is a dissapointment because it started out super strong.

My Thoughts: The very adorable cover drew me to this story. The story is narrated in the first person POV in both the past and present tense timeline. This follows a classic trope of second chance romance, one of my favorites and a touch of enemies to lovers, and fake dating, also one of my favorite. Amber is a vet that absolutely loves animals. She is forced into doing a reality TV show for financial reasons with her nemesis, Ian. The grump v sunshine is a little reversed in this story, where Adam is the sunshine and Amber is the grump, which I adored.
The characters were developed well with depth, witty banter, fantastic chemistry, and creatively built up. Amber is independent, fierce, opionated, and is very passionate about animals. Ian carries the facade of sexiest vet, but deep down he is caring, passionate, and loving. The message that the characters give is important, that you need to get to know the person for the person and not the persona they portray. The author’s writing style was complex, steamy, a little spicy, definitely swoony, and keeps you engaged.
Overall this was a cute and fun read. Very lighthearted and easy flowing. This would make a great show and/or movie. I would also love to see this author expand out on a few books with the common theme of vet romance. If you love books with animals, vets and romance, this would be the book for you! I would recommend picking up today.
I absolutely loved this book. If ever you are in a romcom mood, I’d definitely look into this one. It won’t disappoint.
Fake dating will always be a favourite trope of mine, throw some animals into the mix, and a book boyfriend who works with them every day?? Pretty much perfect!
This was a cute, charming story. I enjoyed the tropes and especially love the veterinary medicine component! I always love a good reality TV storyline.
I struggled to connect with the characters, though. I also felt it was a bit longer than necessary.
As a veterinary professional myself, I enjoyed this book on several levels. It was fun to be thrust back into the heart-pounding and often gratifying world of emergency medicine. It also reminded me of how difficult it is dealing with distraught owners or, even worse, ambivalent owners.
Amber Hardin is a hard-working and passionate emergency veterinarian who is working hard to become board-certified. Amber is very serious about he patients so the fact that her hospital is also the stage of a reality show makes everything twice as hard. It gets harder when her archenemies from vet school, Ian Todd, is added to the show in order to be her fake boyfriend. What follows is cute, if a little predictable.
The character of Amber is extremely relatable. All of us who have worked with animals have felt this way at some point. Enraged by the treatment by owners or colleagues. We have all had a co-worker that gives us ulcers. Amber handled the way we have all wanted to at one point or another. Ian was a bit two-dimensional but I still liked the view into exotic medicine. I haven’t worked since my kids were born so I enjoyed the return to the ER.
The one thing that could use a little fine-tuning was the plot development. I don’t often say this but more time could have been taken to enjoy the clash of these characters before they started the romance part, but the end result was satisfying anyway.
I loved this book. It was fun from both a professional and a female point of view.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC for my honest review!
I initially requested this book because I love a good enemies to lovers and the premise of faking dating on a tv show sounded so fun! This book had a ton of potential but it fell a little flat for me. Amber was kick ass, passionate, and so caring. I loved how amazing she was at her job and how close she was to her foster siblings. However, the book was very predictable and there wasn't a ton of conflict in the book that kept me interested in the plot. I found myself skimming at times to just finish the book. I also didn't really feel the tension between the main characters so I wasn't invested in their relationship. It was more I was told that I should buy their chemistry than really feeling it. This book just fell a little flat for me unfortunately!
ER vet action, reality tv, guy falls first… such a great combo. Amber is an ER vet with a complex family life, she is doing a reality tv show about her patients. Enter tvs hottest vet Ian and sparks will fly! I really enjoyed this book but not so much for the romance. The vet drama was fantastic! Not too many sigh worthy or steamy scenes to report but a good read nonetheless.
